Not fond of this new look

Re: Not fond of this new look

So, Ice, I notice you didn't show up to check out the cheese's new location until the rest of us spent a day finding it for you:p;)
Hey, I found cheese here on day one! Check the history of my posts. I've enjoyed several flavors of cheese in fact!

:D :D :D

Re: Not fond of this new look

"Who Moved My Cheese". It's been out for a few years now, and it's a fairly quick read.

Seen a Movie version of "Who Moved My Cheese". Classic stuff.

There seem to be two new features that really excite me. "Add a Friend" and "Send a Message". Some of you might get the intial trial attempts of those from me. Look for them in your profile.

P.S...I see some of you have already sent yours to me. I've accepted all of them.

Well. I accepted yours as well. I think. Maybe two or three times because I didn't get confirmation. Ice - Where did ya put my cheese?

Side note: This is a great time for a transition. It keeps us UNH folk looking to the future. It's all about expanding horizons and development:D

DC...your acceptance did not yet go through on this side. A few others did go thru. Go to your profile and you need to accept and/or click on the box.

Sent you a private message via the new conversation board. Again, go to the profile for the poster you are conversing with (not your own, so in this case mine) and click on the visitors message box of that user to see any messages from that poster to you. Once you post a message back the same conversation should also show up in your profile. You can also initiate a conversation that way with any poster.

Click on any posters profile and you can:
- Start a converstion (visitors message)
- request or accept as a friend (depending on if you are the initiator or the receiver.
(your profile will indicate how many friends you have (the connected ones, not the requested ones)
(you can see the request friend when you do a edit friends from your own profile, after opening the Friends drop down.)

More tips:
- Once a conversation is started, you can do a "view conversation" and mark up the messages if you wish to do so.

...These new toys are moving your cheese :D

P.S....I feel like the Help Guy
.........Is there an online user manual for all these new features?
........ Get the feeling there is more power under the hood I'd like to explore :D !!

Hey H - I'll get on that as soon as I can. I have a sick cat in the house and I'm trying to check him out now. thankfully, UNH has a cat Dr:)

Re: Not fond of this new look

What I can't understand is why they went away from the set of emoticons they used to use.

You could read the expressions on the old ones, and they were different colors so that you could tell them apart.

The "grin" used to be green with a whopping big set of teeth showing at the bottom. You could tell it was a grin.

Now it's yellow, the same color as every other emoticon except the "mad" one. It's very difficult to tell from the facial expression whether the face is supposed to be grinning, winking, saying "eek," yelling at the ref, or getting ready to sing the school song. :D

Re: Not fond of this new look

The format of the board, except for our navigation at the top and the colors, is straight out of the box vBulletin. The red vs. gray envelopes show whether the thread has been updated since you read it.

We had no choice but to change the look; the new release of vBulletin completely changed how it creates templates and did not allow us to retain the old style. We opted to go with their standard style (as we did with the old version) and make it blend in with the main site.

Re: Not fond of this new look

Ed...not sure who you are or what capacity you hold at USCHO but want them all to know how pleased we are that a DIII Women's page has been added. It was lobbied for in the past and it came through to fruition... many here are Thankful for the recognition and hope that the news & features on this page in the upcoming weeks and months will equal that of the other Men's and Women's pages.

Thanks to all.

Ps: Only sorry that the Invisible Mode is still an option. IMHO in this day and age having the ability to be invisible on any networking site is a slippery slope...just not sure what good purpose it serves I guess?

I see the same smilies that I've always seen:

 -- Mad: red, frowny face
 -- rolleyes, sarcastic: blue smirk, eyes looking up
 -- cool: wearing shades
:p -- sticking out tongue
;) -- wink
:D -- big grin
:o -- embarrassed: pink face looking sheepish
:( -- frown: purple face, upside down smile
:) -- smilie: the original yellow happy face
 -- confused: befuddled blue face crowned by ???
 -- eek: jaw dropping

Would it be a function of one's browser? I use Firefox.
I'm not sure what is going on with the emoticons. At the time I made the above post in the UMD thread, I still saw all of the original smilies. Now, the "smile" and the "cool" have morphed into the new "baby-puke" yellow versions. Is it a caching issue? All of the "Post Icons" that appear below the post input window in advanced mode are now the new version. My guess is that they are smaller in size (in terms of the ".gif" file associated with them), and that's why they are now used. Progress ...:(

Re: Not fond of this new look

We've wanted to have a separate Women's D-III page for a few years. Our old content management system was too tied into just a single women's page for us to make the switch. We're running the site on an entirely new platform now, which is going to allow us to roll out some new features. We have a new editor who will be overseeing women's hockey this season, Candace Horgan, who has been with us for a few years now as a writer, photographer and weekend editor.

As far as invisible mode ... the people who oversee the Fan Forum are reviewing a number of policies and looking into which new features this upgrade will allow us to use.

Re: Not fond of this new look

My guess is that it is a caching issue. I don't know if we have other emoticon options without installing new ones, but those are the ones that came with vBulletin.

We aren't all that fond of the new smilies either; we've put the ones from the previous release back in place.

Thank you.

Two other changes for common complaints, since vBulletin obviously allows for certain local controls. First, darken the shade of white, something slightly grey or an off-white that simply isn't so stark. Second, make the line between the posts and the signature files a little most distinct.

On the whole, I'm not a fan of the way vBulletin changed the functionality of the board, but at the same time, I'm not giving sincere gripe to USCHO about that. Just tweak the colors slightly, and this would all be somewhat passable.

Thanks again.

Re: Not fond of this new look

Well I guess it is true that we just don't like change because I was not a fan of the new format at first. However I think we will all get comfortable with it and soon consider it better then ever. Thank you for all the hard work you do so we can stay connected with the sport we love .

PS As far as roll outs go it went pretty well

I still see the new yellow only versions. Is there something on the user side we can do ?
