Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

With the way the brackets are lined up for the men’s & women’s teams there are two scenarios for two schools to have both men’s & women’s teams meet in the finals. Plattsburgh-Gustavus Adolphus & Plattsburgh-Norwich.
The Plattsburgh-Norwich scenario could be very interesting finals considering the games this year were men’s two games (3-0 Cadets) (4-4 OT tie) and the women’s two games were both OT games with Cadets winning (3-2 OT) (8-7OT). Both women’s coaches (Houle-Birds) & (Bolding-Cadets) worked as assistant coaches under the men’s coaches (Emery-Birds) & (McShane-Cadets). Speaks volumes to each schools commitment to maintain elite hockey programs.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Personally, I love the idea but I know there are people on the women's side that I have talked to that are against it because they don't want to play second fiddle to the men.

I think it'd be great to have an entire D-III hockey weekend in Lake Placid and really take over the town with eight teams over three days as you mentioned. It'd be fantastic for branding the D-III game and I can't see how it would hurt either side attendance wise.

I hope the NCAA takes a hard look at trying to combine them next year. I'd be all for it for selfish reasons. :)

I don't see how the women's tournament could be more under the radar than what could happen this year. If Norwich and Plattsburgh advances in both tournaments, I think there's going to be a lot of people who will miss what is going on wherever the women's tournament goes. Put both tournaments together at Lake Placid, and you've got a neat synergy going on. I think it would be a win/win.

On the other hand, I can understand the desire to have the women's tournament stand on its own - kind of like I feel about this stupid idea about moving the DIII men's championship to be a sideshow for the DI Frozen Four. Given that desire, don't play it the same weekend as the men. I will admit to not following women's hockey very much until Norwich started, but I think that if more people were to watch it they'd enjoy it.

Agree mostly, but think of this - men play the semi's Friday as usual...women play the semi's Saturday...men final Saturday night...women's final Sunday afternoon...a great three day weekend...and a much better chance for stronger media exposure for both with six games in three days in one place...and keep it in Lake Placid...for good. there, I said it.

Brucey is working on the inevitable merging of the NC$$ DI & DIII championships, IF he could pull off getting Lake Placid as the permanent home of the NC$$ Frozen Four THEN I might consider him capable of something worthwhile.

That is what we did in Northfield last weekend for the ECAC East, and thanks to the great efforts of all the Norwich Athletics Dept and SI people it was a great weekend.

Must have been quite a scheduling nightmare to have two men’s games and still allow the women’s teams to practice the same day!!!

D3 Men's and Women's permanent home - should be a no brainer....but with only 7,700 seats in the Herb Brooks Arena, D1 won't go there...not when you have some D1 teams averaging over 11,000 fans at home...and a good number averaging 4,000 - 6,000....they want to milk thi$ for all it$ worth - NHL arenas in markets willing to pay $$$ to host....that's the rotation criteria...let D1 go that way - preserve D3 in Lake Placid - it works, which means they probably won't.... (sigh)

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Somewhere among all the posts on the NCAA playoffs—someone mentioned that the Las Vegas odds makers had picked NU over Wentworth.

Is there really a sports book that follows these things and actually posts odds on DIII hockey? I am just curious. Can one find it online? Thanks.

You are correct, I fully believe that evidence in what public information is available, that the push to merge the DI & DIII Frozen Fours is to enhance the enticement as the NC$$ seeks to milk the big ticket NHL franchises for their almight $$'s.

Not a problem in Lake Placid, you have the 32 rink and another rink behind the main arena that youth hockey normally uses.

Congratulations to the Women’s & Men’s hockey teams with 5-0 & 3-0 shutout wins today. Norwich is the only school to advance both teams to the final fours and having a possible chance of bringing home two national championships. Looking forward to seeing the men’s game in Lake Placid against Saint Norbert. :):)

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Great job to all the men and women hockey players at Norwich...go get em:cool:

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

What a great game for the both the Men and Women Cadets! Superb shut out for the women over Amherst. Congratulations.

Wentworth proved to be more that worthy of being in the NCAA. Even Chris Duszynski’s first goal inside of 20 seconds of the 1st did not seem to deter them. And the stats certainly show that this was no run away victory. But both Kyle T. and Pier—“The Shot” O-C put it to bed. Great job :)

Regrets? Yup, that I will not be in LP. Good luck Cadets—be sure to un-horse our old friends...;) the Green Knights of SNC.--while the NU women deal with GAC.

Small victory for next weekend....

Norwich men will play St. Norbert at 4 p.m. in Lake Placid.

Norwich women will play Gustavus Adolphus at 7 p.m. in Rochester.

Atleast I'll be able to watch whichever game I can't be at on video stream.
