Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

144th meeting of THE GAME tonight at Kreitzberg at 7 pm between Middlebury and Norwich.

Although Middlebury leads the all-time series 80-56-7, Norwich is 7-2-1 against the Panthers in the last 10, including shutouts in 2 of the last 3 meetings.

NU won last year's lone meeting 5-0 scoring four goals in the first period along with Chris Czarnota recording a shutout in goal.

Middlebury's last win came on Feb. 7, 2009 with a 4-2 win. The Panthers won both meetings during the 2008-09 season as Midd also scored a 3-2 win over Norwich in the PrimeLink ShootOut finals earlier in the season at the Chip Kenyon Arena.

Norwich is making its seventh straight PrimeLink Tournament final appearance and will be in search of their record eight ShootOut championship. Middlebury is second with four titles. Plattsburgh will have to wait until next to try and win their fourth tourney title. The Cardinals did win the last one on home ice though in 2010.

We are going to catch up with those guys - probably not in my lifetime, though :d

No maybe about it. This NU win over the Panthers ranks up their with their double overtime against St. Norberts in Lake Placid for the DIII Title a few years back. It left me in cardiac arrest. And once again it was many of those same Cadets doing the heavy lifting. And against another very good team--this time Middlebury. The Panthers have clearly recruited well and are on their way back. Plattsburg looked solid both days as well and obviously the Cadets will have their hands full when they see both again in a few weeks.

Great game Cadet--Congratulations to you all. :) And congratulations to the other three teams who all proved to be as good as their advanced billings. What a great two days of hockey.

Broadcast Mechanics The video stream was 5 by 5 here in Maine--absolutely no problem other than the wandering camera that seem fixated on the PrimeLink logo on the ice that you could barely make out. An attempt at feel good branding for the sponsor I imagine. The "fan cam" is an interesting twist but this is not Fenway folks but leave it in.

Broadcast Content: The student play by play guy was better than last year--meaning not only did he not hesitate describing the action but actually knew the names of the players from both teams on the ice. He did his homework and it showed. What's more, he actually knew the correct pronunciation of Pier-Olivier Cotnoir's name which will earn him an extra credit for an "A" in Sports Broadcast Elocution. The color guy was bit long winded, e.g. too often he was still talking about a "what cudda or shudda happen"--so long after the play that I'd forgot what he was referring to. However, NU's own Puck Voice remains the yardstick by which all broadcasting from the Berg shall be measured. All in all--the entire production was better than last year guys.

Great video recap posted by VT Bragging Rights: http://www.wcax.com/story/20177356/a-shootout-showdown

From what I was told it wasn't the regular camera guys. Having said that it was one of the best Primelink video broadcasts yet. Some people wouldn't be happy if ESPN did it. We cant compare everyone to Oswego, but frankly ANY video is better then what we had just a few years ago. I can't comment on the audio as I synced it to WIRY in the Plattsburgh game, but the Norwich/Midd tilt was on par with just about every decent student broadcast. Then again I didn't listn to much of that either as I was tuned into Biggs and the Utica/Amherst game....

I only heard the student broadcasters for a few minutes. I did hear them a bit during the first game. On Fri. Once I realized that I could synch DEV with the video, I didn't hear them any more. Camera work was not bad except for an occasional mishap. The issue of the time clock was the big one. In the first game they never showed it in the second they cut to it during play, but by the end it was okay. And the winning goal was covered perfectly. I do wish I could have been there, but that was a good substitute

I applaud their effort and enthusiasm...as the Plattsburgh Comm/Brdcstng curriculum expands and improves, they will only get better...:D

Norwich – Castleton Game: Will NSN be streaming the game this Saturday? The Spartan web site does not list the game.

NSN will be streaming the game .... it will be a Castleton broadcast with Jack Healey and Brian Hill ... Tanner and I will be there on the Northfield Saving Bank WDEV Norwich Hockey Network.

It turns out to be extremely easy to synch WDEV with NSN. I did it all through the Primelink, and I was never more than half a second off either way. When that happened, I just refreshed whoever was trailing. Jack Healy may be a pro, but your voice is the familiar voice of home that I'm used to.

Prez I am not sure if you listened to the Vermont Edition program today on VPR that discussed sports in Vermont. The program started out talking about D3 hockey in Vermont with Anna Grearson which left a very positive impression on the Norwich Mens and Womens hockey programs. They also had an interview with Mark Bolding of the womens team that was very interesting. The program also discussed other college sports teams including Dartmouth, Middlebury, UVM, Plattsburgh, and a little about Castleton.

Of all the college sports teams they talked about I think they should of discussed Castleton D3 football which is very popular in the Rutland area. VPR places its programs on the web but the link to this program was not up yet.

In reference to the games on Norwich schedule I wonder if fans noticed that Castleton had a big win over Manhattanvile this past weekend. Based on that result I would expect the Castleton/Norwich game to be very close and bring out a sell out crowd at Spartan Arena. The number of injured players has to be a big concern for Norwich .

Castleton had some key players injured. Anyone know if they are back?

I don't follow Castleton hockey that closely but I think you are referring to defensemen Brad Barber who played against Manhattanville Sunday. I hope the Norwich goalie Saturday plays a good game because the Castleton goalie Eric Cinotti has been very good of late.

In the Caslteton thread they talk about Justin Alonzo and a few other starters were out. (I would think Castleton fans would be posting on their thread since they won their tourny. The refs must of ben on their side this time lol)
