looking foward for the upcoming season--i thought the team looked very good against three rivers.the freshmen that played did not look out of place and fit right in .the defensemen really moved the puck quickly and effectively all night.all in all---can't wait for the season to start.

Any truth to the rumor that Norwich is petitioning to go to Division 1 in 2014? This may be old news but I couldn't find a clear answer on a quick search so figured I would ask here.

As the NCAA is no longer allowing any new single-sport playups, Norwich would have to go DI in all sports, which I doubt is something they would be willing to do. Even if they did, it would likely take a whole lot longer to transition to DI than 2014!

Besides, this is a rumor that keeps cropping up annually and began way back in '03 when RIT was making the jump.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

It is interesting to note that UNE was tied with Castleton Friday night 3-3, until the middle of the second period. They went on to lose the game 10-3 but to stay with this Spartan team for half the game was not expected from most fans. With UNE improved I hope Norwich does not underestimate UNE this weekend.

After watching Castleton play it looks like the team is as least as strong as last year if not stronger. The team has a lot of scoring debth even without there top player not in the lineup. Castleton upcoming games against NEC, Norwich, Utica, and Plattsburgh should be very competitive.

Most of the times with these second half of the game blowouts, the weaker team is just out of gas, I have seen it a bunch of times with Oz, the team stays close then the 2nd half of the game is VERY different, nothing taken away from the weaker team just that they dont have the depth

It is also often an issue of conditioning. Over the years I have seen a lot of teams play NU pretty close for the first two periods, and then get left in the dust. The opposition gets "rubber leg syndrome," after playing hard, often rolling only two or three lines, and eventually the loose pucks, that they were contesting, start to go to Norwich. When you run a short bench to try to stay with a powerful opponent, eventually the fatigue gets you.

I think I just said the same thing you said only less concisely :)

LOL, I couldnt have said it any better.....we played Clarkson when I was at oz in the mid-eighties, and the last third of the game they took it to us for the reasons mentioned

It also helps when you have a 5 on 3 for over 3 minutes and can score as many times as you want....Check out the Box Score...

None of those goals were scored on a 5 on 3 PP...

Ok let's nickpic...2. 4 on 3 goals and one goal at the end of an extended power...I think you get the point....4 power play goals and 9 chances to 2....It's easy to score on a 4 on 3: I think 4 on 3 PP are over 50 percent successful...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

FYI Dartmouth moved up to #17 in the polls monday, makes the game even better for the Cadets

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Solid opening weekend by the boys.

Maine trip is never an easy one so four points is nice to see.

Janke, Cotnoir, Thomas all off to great starts. Looks like those three are emerging as the three horses on offense right now.

Tremendous depth on this team IMHO this year. Four lines that can hurt you.

Should be No. 1 in the new poll on Monday and regular season home opener against NEC next Friday is a nice early season showdown with the fast start the Pilgrims are off to this year.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Back from Maine late last night enjoyed the hockey, the lobster and time with Maine Grandchildren (both parents USM Grads)
The boys enjoyed game at USM though the youngest girl enjoyed dancing to Music at arena more

UNE much improved

Spoke with UNE Prof who was sitting in front of us Friday night and he expects that the New rink on campus to be completed in July 2012

NU power play seems improved though Saturday’s 2-11 doesn’t show it several chances just missed

The new Freshman for NU fit in very well impressed with several of them

Looking forward to being back at the BERG this weekend with both NEC & ST A’S

With the new rink I think UNE could turn into a solid D-III hockey program. They are going to be very interesting to watch over the next couple years.

Some of the guys I talked to at a Castleton game also thought UNE was much improved this year which concurs with your comments. Looks like Southern Maine is in rebuilding year. Looking at the ECAC E results so far it looks like Norwich and Castleton will battle it out the whole year for the ECAC E title. It is very early in the season but to see 2 ECAC E teams so high in the standings is great for hockey in Vermont. I am somewhat concerned by the injuries to 2 key players going into the Primelink and games with Castleton/Plattsburgh in early December but I guess all teams have to deal with injuries over the course of the year. Scott Schroeder coming back after the first of the year would also be a big plus. In reference to Norwich they are playing outstanding defensive hockey so far this year.
