A little pre-game reading to hold everyone over for the final hour until the puck drops:

The End of An Era - ECAC East/NESCAC Interlock Plays Final Weekend

All banter aside, Derek, very nice job. You have real talent for writing, which we've seen all the way back to your imaginary tournaments back in the day.

As for the game, looked like the Cadets took period 2 off last night. Not sure what was going on. Total domination in the first and third, and no so much in the second. The difference was palpable. There never was a doubt about the final outcome though.

We talked about the question as to whether the defense would step up this year, but in the last third of the season, they have really shut down the other teams' offense. It actually makes it a little tough on the goalie, because so many shots get turned aside by the defense that the ones he does have to stop are usually grade A chances. Carroll made a couple of great stops during the second.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

I think that the offense needs to force the issue a little more, especially against a team like Conn with their lumbering d-men. Last night, there was too much cycling, looking for the perfect diagonal or back-door pass. I would like to see some of the guys fire it on goal and crash the net.

For example, Mulvey threw a couple of great pucks off the pads, but his linemates were trailing, looking for a pass instead of going hard to the far post.

Congrats to Chad and Greg on your wonderful and productive years at Norwich. Thanks for all you have contributed to Norwich hockey. Good win tonight against Tuft's, albeit a little shaky at some points. Tuft's played a lot better than their record indicates. Way to go with winning another regular season ECAC East title. Looking forward to the post season at Kreitzberg. Again, thanks for the memories!:)

Chad is the last remaining men's players who took a class from me. I enjoyed his work ethic as a student, and it really showed up on the ice. He has contributed a lot to this team throughout the years.

I think that the choice of goaltenders in the latter part of the season was validated tonight.

That was my sense as well. I think the issue is one of confidence more than anything else. Dubois has a lot of quickness but he is still a bit erratic. Carroll seems to play with a quiet confidence that seems to be felt by the whole team. I'm not going to throw anybody under the bus, but right now I prefer Carroll.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Didn't see an ECAC East thread so this is as good as any. Just for fun here is what the standings would look like if the Interlock was dead this season. Not many changes, however the NESCAC was completely different as you can see in their thread.

1- Norwich
2- Castleton
3- UMass Boston
4- NEC
5- Babson
6- Southern Maine
7- Skidmore
8- UNE

Which would give us a playoff of...

UNE @ Norwich
Skidmore @ Castleton
Southern Maine @ UMass Boston
Babson @ NEC

Given that the whole season numbers have a hard time supporting the ranking of NU above Plattsburgh by both the coaches and the first NCAA ranking, I wonder if it is the goal-tending change that has them thinking that way?

Supposedly the NCAA rankings are done by the NCAA criteria, but the weights given those criteria are top secret.

Well, according to the NCAA rankings that have disappeared, THEY fixed that one, putting PSU higher. The coaches, on the other hand, have NU higher without the "aid" of the criteria.

There's only three things that matter
1. Beat UNE
2. Win the following Friday
3. Win the day after that

Isn't it Sat/Sun?

The Mens final four will be Friday saturday if norwich hosts and the womens final four will be Saturday Sunday.

Mens semis are at 4 and 7 pm on Friday
And the championship at 7 or 7:30 on Saturday. Womens semis are 12 and 3 on Saturday and then finals are 3 pm
On Sunday if Norwich hosts both.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

A Question for Prez, Crosby or anyone who knows. What's the scoop on Tim Houston and Chris Duszynski? I know Chris got hurt a few games ago but didn't see or hear anything on Tim. Also want to praise Igor Martinez, never saw much action the past two years but is impressing this year...like the way he crashed the net. As always, not enough praise for Colin Mulvey, incredible speed and ability to get the puck out of the scrum. Anybody else notice the re-appearance of the playoff mustaches?
