Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

I was in Northfield today and noticed that the students are back on campus. Any chance of providing the freshmen recruits so we can check out there stats.

They probably just want to take the opportunity to check and see who is on campus, who is still planning on playing hockey, etc. before they release the list. I can understand that. I'm just as eager to find out as anyone, but trust me, as soon as Charlie has the go-ahead to release the list, he will.

They guys coming to Norwich have all been actively recruited and want to play hockey before a big stage and have a chance for a pro career. I can understand not releasing info after Clarkson recruited away a goalie slated for Norwich just before the start of school. But as far as I can determine the freshmen have already registered for the fall term and will begin Captain's practice in a couple of weeks.

Freshmen don't register for classes officially until tomorrow. Nothing is really official until classes actually start on Monday.

Thank you. Now maybe hawk will shut the heck up about the incoming recruits. Talk about beating a dead horse. Although it's never too early to start asking about the incoming class of 2011. Any word yet on them? :p

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Looks like a lot of faith in Dubois. Only one goalie and straight out of high school at that. Do we have another in house candidate for backup to the backup that I don't know about?

That was my first reaction, too. Dubois seems a solid goaltender, but Im interested to see how he holds up as the #1. Looking at his stats from the LHJAAAQ (from the 1 season I can find on him in their archive), he was a solid goaltender in what is arguably the most goal-happy junior A league in North America. Add to that the fact that one of these new recruits is a Dman from his junior team (so they've likely played together), and Dubois could be the Cadets' answer.

...Or the goaltender position could end up being their downfall.

Gonna be one helluva season!

The new goalie is from Wakefield, MA, Coach McShane's hometown. He probably still has a number of connections down there and was fairly certain of this goalies resume. The Middlesex league is a good hockey league in Massachusetts. McShane went straight to UNH from Wakefield as did Mark Kumpel (UM-Lowell, Quebec Nords, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers). Of course, they did it when that was a fairly common route to go. I think Kumpel is the coach of the Walpole Express now after stints in the AHL with coaching.

I'm sure of the likely quality of the kid, although HS to DIII is an unusual route these days (Of course both Aucoins came from Mass HS play). I'm more surprised that there's only one - goalie injuries aren't that rare - see what happened to joecct's son, so if you only have one back up, you need to get really creative.

CrosbyNU63 reported 9 names and the above list only has 8. If I had to guess the missing player is another goaltender. It will be very interesting to see how coach Mike McShare intergrates these players into the team but there looks like there is a lot to work with. I tried to get information on the Quebec players but even with the Google translator I couldn't find anthing. Maybe our friend on the board from Quebec can give us a little insight.

Per my correspondence with Charlie, there are only 8, not 9.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

When I reported nine there were nine, only eight came...that is why we do not put out the names until they are here. Hawk, go watch Castleton for awhile and give me a break.

A loss for Norwich, possibly a loss for the Student-Athlete involved...

...but a definite win for common sense when dealing with DIII athletics. :D ;)

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

so does that mean Oswego still has time to steal that Jensen guy??? ;-)))

That depends on Oswego's admissions policy... but tomorrow is the official move-in day at Plattsburgh, so I your chance might have passed (this semester, anyway). ;)

If Oswego's admissions policy is anything like plattsburgh... a friend of mine transferred to Plattsburgh for this semester, got accepted, and scheduled for classes, all in the last week. :p

But something tells me Gosek didn't just "miss" this kid... there's probably a reason he selected Plattsburgh over Oz (or any of the DI programs reportedly after him)... so you're chances of getting him might not be so good.

Its funny how the SUNY schools could/may have different admission policies, you would think it would be uniform..........Yea Im sure there is a good reason he went to platts, besides a great program and tradition, maybe a buddy or he liked the campus, couldnt say about the campus only saw the inside of Stafford.........wonder why he didnt go D1 after reading the articles?? Ugh me's thinks we shanghied this thread....ugh
