Re: The TBN tournament now has a name

Re: The TBN tournament now has a name

I didn't mean for it to be a knock on Adrian. i know they're a great team. I just find it amusing to hear the term "perennial power" applied to a 3rd-year program :p

Logically, I would think you'd have to be good for 5 years before you can be a "perennial power." When you reach that stage, none of the players now on the team were part of the start of the run - Calling Adrian a perennial power is kind of like calling Norwich's women's team a perennial power. It's premature to bestow that title on them.

(Of course, we spend so much time in this forum discussing Adrian, that some may forget there was a time in the not-so-distant past when Adrian was a first-year program.)

I have a feeling that meeting Prof's 5-year requirement will have to involve beating somebody "relevant" along the way.

Imagine if they beat Manhattanville AND Norwich at this tournament????  :D

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

When I read Charlie's press release I wrote him to say that that it almost had a Orwellian double speak ring to it, e.g."perennial powers Norwich, Manhattanville and Adrian...along with Nichols." roughly translated to "So while Manhattanville and Adrian duke it out, Norwich is going to get tuned up on Nichols."

Yes, yes, I am smart enough not to take any team for granted even Nichols. But one can hope can't they? It is all going to be very interesting if NU and Adrian get a chance to play one another as I think the entire Division III world will be looking to see exactly how good they are given all their dialog the last few years about how they deserved to make it to the NCAAs their first couple of seasons after beating up on a number of "no so perennial powers". I mean it only took NU 90 years to win their first NCAA title and by 100 years they had only garnered a third.

I will pass on my own feelings about that PR campaign and suffice to say that my hopes for the outcome of their eastern debut at the Division III level favors the current national champions. :)

But I am already ahead of myself because championships are built one game at a time so just as NU has to get past Nichols--Adrian has to get past perrennial power--Mahattanville. :D

And I thought perennials had something to do with flowers. Hope you are having a nice summer.:)

Sounds like you are you hinting at a Norwich loss to Nichols on 12/31  :p

No, If Adrian loses to Manhattanvile, and Norwich beats Nichols, Adrian would play Nichols in the consi game.

Eastern debut? Potsdam, Neumann, and Oswego would like to say hello ;)

Norwich is the 4th Eastern school to host them in the last 4 years. In fact, Potsdam and Neumann each hosted them for a two-game series, and did the unthinkable... they went to Michigan for a two-game series! Let's see Norwich do THAT

In 08-09, Adrian went 100% in-region, with a tie to Potsdam, a loss to eventual National Champions Neumann, and a win (by some margin) over each of those 2 opponents.

Anyway, this is not in any way their "Eastern Debut". There's more to the East Region than just the CCCP, my friend. :D

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

I'm guessing Plattsburgh and St. Norbert :)

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

IMHO, just looking at the teams on paper (which is usually not a good idea...), I think we could very easily see a final four with the same 4 teams as the 2008 tournament (for anyone who may not have been with us that long, that'd be St. Norbert, Norwich, Plattsburgh, and Elmira).

Not to knock Oswego, Adrian, Manhattanville, or any of the other contenders, because it most certainly won't be easy for any team to reach Ridder, but those 4 teams are the ones that, IMO, really look most geared up to have a strong year.

But then again, I have a strong suspicion the committee may try to get 2 western teams in the semifinals, à la 2009 (except in the west). So one of the 3 Eastern Teams will have to get the boot before the final weekend. Derek thinks it'll be Plattsburgh. I think it'll be whichever one gets screwed by the committee. Considering McShane and Delventhal are on the committee... I could easily see that being Elmira

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Just receive my season ticket nenewal in the mail for the 2010/2011 hockey season. I don't mind the modest price increase, however, it would of been nice to receive a little info on the recruits and reorganization of the ECAC East/interlock everyone is talking about. With the football players already on campus and freshmen reporting soon I have to assume the recruit info will surface soon. As far as I can determine the schedule is as advertised with a game against Castleton at home on 12-11.

You can't talk about the recruits until they arrive on campus -- this isn't D1, there are no firm commitments. Rooks report this Sunday, school starts Aug. 30th, perhaps there will be some more info available after that.

And

The ECAC isn't even talking about the interlock or their potential reorganization, why would NU jump the gun on it?

thanks for the help, I don't know how many times we have to tell "Hawk" this, but he just not seem to get it.

Just asking but doesn't the new addition to the rink have a blue line club function room? Also is the addition going to allow for more standing room in the arena since the snack bars will be in the addition?

On the recruit front was just wondering if NU had recruited more defensemen and goalies since they were short in thoes areas. Sounds like the info will be available in another week.
