Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

Re: Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

What will it take to turn the NMU hockey program around into a winning program again???? The NMU hockey ship is sinking fast and it's either time to "Jump Ship" or get things back to being competitive again so what will it take to get this done???? If NMU gets swept this weekend up in Alaska they will have hit rock bottom and will be low man on the totem pole in the D1 college hockey world.... Not something to be very proud of that's for sure!!!!!!!!!!!

What are the answers????

Bring in a new coaching staff????
Recruit different style players????
Use different schemes on the bigger ice sheet????
Try to get a bigger recruiting budget????
Join a different conference????

Many questions for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to beat the drum, but I don't see any other option. He is either not recruiting talent or not using the talent that he has at his disposal. Either way...

Boy, I know how you feel. Sigh.

Davyd83 - Have a nice trip up North.... Hopefully you'll be calling a couple of NMU wins.... We'll be holding down the Fort until you get back to Marquette!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

I heard Davyd83 has been "Rubbing Noses" with all those good looking Eskimo gals up in Anchorage before the NMU-UAA hockey series this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!

DRD, the best thing about what I do is the people I meet and the places I experience, and then have the opportunity to bring that home and share it with Wildcat fans through words & pictures, sometimes video. It's a pretty special opportunity.

Also, not using the word Eskimo.

Re: Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

What about the CFL Edmonton Eskimos football team???? They don't seem to mind using that for their team name do they????

Re: Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

Thanks for the info.... I didn't mean to use the word "Eskimo" in a derogatory manner and was unaware of the negative nature of it with the Inuit people.... I guess I better quit wearing my CFL Edmonton Eskimos football team hat and t-shirt then and maybe I should also take down my CFL Edmonton Eskimos football banner that I have hanging in my living room as well as I'm a big fan of their CFL football team.... Kind of odd that the CFL Edmonton Eskimos Football Club would still use the term as their official team name all these years and haven't changed it if it was such an issue.... How about the NFL Washington Redskins or the NFL Kansas City Chiefs or the NHL Chicago Blackhawks or the MLB Cleveland Indians????

Re: Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

From my many trips to Alaska, the term is deemed quite improper by the Inuit.

How DRD used it, yes it's considered improper, but it's not improper to use it in other ways. In fact calling them Inuit is actually seen as more offensive by many, as Inuit actually refers to the Inupiat of Northern Canada, whereas the Inupiat and Yupiks of Northern and Western Alaska do refer to themselves as Eskimos to differentiate themselves from the inland and SE groups of Native Alaskans. The term Eskimo is widely used as a sense of pride, and to reference culture within the Native Alaskan/Alaskan Native community, but asking about the cute "Eskimo" girls *cringe* would get your teeth knocked out in many bars. Sorry Dave, but this is one area that you know I have more knowledge on than you, Alaskan Native/Native Alaskan not Inuit as many of the groups are completely different than the Inuits.

Thanks for clarifying! Your Alaskan experience is way beyond anything most would know. Appreciate you sharing!

The political correctness thing is way out of whack.
Get real.
Get a life.
He meant no harm.
What? I can say absolutely nothing about Michigan because I may unknowingly offend someone's sensibilities?
Sheesh!

P.S. I'm not aware of those bars you speak of but then again I haven't visited every bar in the state although my wife may disagree with me.

UAA hockey wins first WCHA....box score shows 612 in the seats in the 6500 seat Sullivan Arena....
They had 1800 at the west regional volleyball....maybe more tonight as uaa women play for the title and a trip to the NCAA finals

Re: Northern Michigan University Wildcats 2016-17 Season Thread: Gotta Get Up And Try

The NMU losing slide continues with (5-3) loss to UAA last nite up in Anchorage.... NMU is now (3-12-2) overall and (1-9-1) in their last (11) games.... This bleeding has to stop as NMU has now hit rock bottom in the D1 college hockey world.... How can they snap out of this?????

How can they snap out of this?????

While I dont agree that the issue is the coaching, I think it may be inevitable at this point; the coaching is going to change. If it indeed does, this my vote:

However, Chris is pretty well rooted at UWSP so it might be kind of hard. I believe he has passed on a few D1 offers after he and his team's D3 title last year.
