Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

So if you know this, why the need to post our supposed PWR rankings every week?

ha ha. exactly and he's wrong. The WCHA has had multiple teams in the tournament recently. Ferris and Mankato in 2014. MTU and Mankato in 2015 with BG just missing. Ferris in 2016 with MTU just missing. MTU in 2017.

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

The reason I post the NMU Rankings is to keep an eye on NMU's progress during the season.... If we are to follow ShirtlessBob's logic why should we follow NMU's season record at all????

One WCHA team making the Tournament in 2016 and one in 2017 isn't exactly setting the world on fire now is it???????

In two of the four seasons of the new WCHA, two teams made it. 6 bids in 4 years should neither surprise, nor disappoint anyone.

Since I'm constantly on trial for what I post in this forum I appreciate that logical statement....

All I care about is wins and finishing higher than 8th in the conference. Currently 3rd in the conference and playing slightly better than .500 hockey is a MASSIVE improvement over last year.

As for tonight, let's get the sweep against Huntsville and move on to next weekend.

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

I couldn't agree with you more.... I'd like to see NMU get 20 wins, have a Top 20 PAIRWISE/RPI/KRACH Ranking and re-establish the program into being a NCAA Tournament contender again....

NMU (8-8-0) @ Bemidji State (5-6-3) this weekend.... Any thoughts on this series???? Potulny was not happy with NMU's (3-2) loss at home on Saturday nite to Alabama-Huntsville....

I agree.
My disappointment is associated with the whole re-alignment, which is old news, I know. WCHA programs will continue to struggle putting together strong teams that can compete for championships at the national level. It is what it is, but I am real happy that Northern seems to be making progress.

Fairly unrelated to the current conversation. Anyone going to be going to Vegas next month? Other than...(points to self).

I might consider it if I come across a mega-deal on a flight/hotel, but I think the ship might have sailed on that :(

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

Attended the NMU-BSU contest last night. I remember the Wildcat goalie from last year and thought he was outstanding, so when I saw that he wasn't playing I thought the Beavers would surely win. Not so; Israelsson was impressive. He kept the typically pesky Beavers from penetrating the goal. Both teams had trouble getting the puck reversed quickly. I don't know if that was puck mishandling or the defenses were just sharp. That short-handed OT goal was a deflating dagger for Beaver fans. Will be interesting to see how both teams respond tonight.

Vegas is out of my wheelhouse, but I have an eye on the Alabama-Huntsville series in February. About a 4 hour drive for me.

There will be an NMU reception prior to the Saturday afternoon game it Huntsville. It will be at the bar in the lobby of the Von Braun Center. Come on down. There is always a good NMU crowd at UAH!
