Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

FYI, Coach Hastings was on KFAN, which is the sports talk radio station in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Hastings went out of his way to praise Grant Potulny and NMU. He mentioned that he praises Grant Potulny and NMU for a great season so far and a brand of hockey the WCHA needs and can help it be more successful and compete with other leagues consistently. Said he coached Grant a long time ago on some Team USA along the way, and said he’s not one bit surprised to see his early success. Not a whole lot there, but thought it was nice Hastings was praising NMU and what they’re doing this year.

Just like when I was a student. Hope it's not an empty barn.

I think it is Spring Break everywhere for the most part. But I have a feeling that there will be some students that stay behind to see the games.

Cats looked strong last night. That was quite a performance by Saulnier. I thought he was going to swing that stick at the leo on his way off the ice, he was out of control.

I hope they put his *** on a Greyhound bus home to Huntsville. I'm glad that jerk is done whenever our season is over.

Radio pxp at the end of the game: "28 seconds left in the game and people are going to the parking lot. C'mon people, plenty of time to the up the game! We need you in your seats!"

Go fu** yourselves "Hockeyville, USA"

So glad you all raced out of the Berry to "beat the traffic."

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

Well that didn't go as planned

Coach made a comment in the post game interview about heads not being in the right mindset coming into the game... After last night, it sounds like we got caught looking ahead and that might have killed us

I'm not sure how I feel right now... This is just as bad at BGSU in '11 and '12

I couldn't believe that, either. While I was happy, I saw the clock and said "28 seconds? That's plenty of time for a team with Payne, Rockwood, Loggins, Craighead, etc."

I fear an angry Wildcat team tomorrow.

Bwahahaha. Fire Grant Potulny!

Totally kidding. Alabama has been trouble all season for us. 2-2-0, and I believe it was 11 goals apiece scored for each team for the season. If you really thought UAH was just going to roll over after Friday night, you obviously haven't looked at the schedule and seen that the Cats couldn't win against Huntsville on Saturdays.

In fact, in four years (including tonight), the Cats have gone just 2-5-1 on Saturday nights against UAH.

The only ones who thought this weekend was a "bye" week to the second round were the same ones who thought the Cats could be an at-large qualifier for the NCAAs.

Please call us Huntsville, thanks.

The University of Alabama is in Tuscaloosa. Calling UAH “Alabama” is akin to calling NMU “Michigan.”

Sorry; If the biggest takeaway from complimenting the hard work UAH puts in on the Cats on the "getaway game" day is that I used Alabama instead of Huntsville, whatever.

Officials from the mothership tried to kill my program, so I'm super-sensitive to it. I'm glad that you recognize that UAH put in the work and was going to come at it —*there's a reason that these teams split their season series.

Fact of the matter is that Coach thought the Cats were looking ahead. I figured UAH would bounce back, but we needed to weather that storm and find a way to win. This loss served as the final nail in the slim shot we had at at at-large bid, so yes, I'm peeveed. We haven't won a playoff series in 8 years. We are now in a win or go home scenario and that essentially comes down to a coin flip, and I want to have better odds than that

My system for weighting coins says 69-31 NMU-UAH. ;)

IMO, the major wasn't warranted, but that's just from the comforts of my couch and the WCHA.tv feed. Cats got a break from the call and took advantage of it.

UAH is a good team. For your sake, I hope you don't loose too many players. For the Wildcats sake, I hope they all sign pro contracts this summer. :p :D

On to the semi-finals for the first time since the 2010-11 season.

We lose eight, including Kestner, Poulsen, McHugh, and Uhelski. We've got a decent core of juniors (namely Gorowsky and Gosselin) who will need to take over leadership roles and Corbett has high hopes for Mark Sinclair, but we've got questions going into next year.

Hat tip to the Wildcats. Good luck against Bowling Green and continuing your run!
