Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Well, with Gaudreau no surprise, going to BC, are there any other last minutes rabbits we are going to attempt to pull besides Manson?

Also, Haar, lol, guess you weren't good enough for BC to pull the stops for.

We have HS Roby to thank for losing Gaudreau, for destroying the best recruiting class we would have ever had, as well as for driving off the best coaching staff we have had in my long memory. Incidentally, HS stands for "Hockey Saboteur", which is how I shall refer to him in the future on these boards.:mad::mad:

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I feel bad for you Patriots fans. You expect so much from your management and here I am as a Redskins fan already used to a decade of complete incompetence from our general manager (F you Vinny btw) so this whole recruit/coaching fiasco thing just doesn't phase me or anger me nearly as much. I've been desensitized. :D

Again, sucks, but we have plenty of talent returning so no excuses if we don't make top-8 this year in Hockey East. The junior class has to sack up and perform. No more 0 G 8 A from J.D. and only 10 points from Quail Man. Vermeesch, nice dangles but shoot the **** puck. Saponari could be a 30 + point boost and you just hope Karlsson or someone else ends up being a diamond in the rough.

As for J.G., this definitely makes me want to beat BC more than anyone this year but it is what it is. Losers cry, winners move on.

This sums it up right here. Roby went with the safe pick after he successfully sabotaged the program and it will lead to many years of mediocrity.

Amazing, tell me how you got your powers to allow you to see into the future?

Setting the bar real high aren't you?.. I actually I don't have us doing any better than 7th. This is all very frustrating, can't help but feel like we are just taking massive steps back, can't wait to see what mad dog brings in. The guys you mentioned I agree need to step the puck up if we are doing anything this year, that includes going to the playoffs. this could be REAL ugly if they don't. Hopefully we still can lure good recruits in, though with these recent departures I'm not too optimistic, that Q kid seems legit though, so we'll just have to see if we can keep 2012-13 recruits on/bring in top tier talent like we were doing.

Still super excited for the season, just worried.

It's the Redskins in me....can't set the bar too high...sigh. But assuming the junior class performs like they should, we actually have pretty decent scoring. Now if we can just get Clay Witt to start.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

My compliments to Ryecheers! FINALLY a long time suffering Northeastern fan has had the GUTS to outright say what a lot of people are thinking!!! Skinfans09....love your posts BUT you are living in a "la-la land" of denial. In my opinion....Roby in one fell-swoop....dismantled the NU hockey program...is rebuilding it in his image...and it AIN'T PRETTY!

And I agree, Ryecheers....NU probably HAD...note HAD...one of the top five recruiting classes in the country.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I'm a realist canada1. My s/n is a team that has been arguably the biggest joke in professional sports since 2000. If you really look at the roster and tell me we can't at least make the HE playoffs, you are being overly-negative. Do I expect home-ice...no. Do I expect over .500%...sadly, no. But in a conference with Lowell, Providence and UMASS, there's no reason we can't make the conference tournament.

And it does suck that we lost one of the best recruiting classes in the nation but we did replace Haar with an even higher draft pick (not that that guarantees he'll be better) and Saponari is still a guy we know has produced 30 points in Hockey East.

We have got to either start Witt or split time between he and Rawlings. We can no longer afford Rawlings' Luongo-style off nights.

It sounds like you are being negative for the sake of it and asking for pity from the choir almost. It's a new regime with a new playing style and maybe our freshman will actually advance for once instead of regressing like normal for whatever reason.

I am not in denial. I never said we'd challenge for home ice. I said we shouldn't expect the cellar.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

hockey coaches throuout hockey east hope you split goalies next year
a 6th rd pick or a 7th rd pick is a wash
coach is in over his head

I agree 100%, Roby destroyed the hockey program. I still can't believe this happened. They had a monster of a class coming in

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Time to ask a few questions.

With all the hate for Roby, I am looking for some insights on why you guys feel the way you do.

Does everyone hate him for:
a) Ticking off Cronin and running him out of the building(suspension included)? Was it reasonable to expect a guy like Cronin to stick around long anyway (probably not even the point but a related question nonetheless)?
b) Hiring Madigan (ie - think he's the wrong guy)?
c) Taking so long to replace Cronin?

Or some combination of the above?

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

a) 13 posts in and already in the red, not a good start
b) Learn to type like you're over 12
c) Dan McGillis was a 10th round pick...he turned out to be pretty good at NU

Anyway...

Agree to an extent. If the program was a fire, he didn't put it out like you're saying but he certainly got a few good sprays of extinguisher in. Now we need some logs thrown back in, FAST.

Anyway...

1. a 6th rd pick is equal to a 7th rd pick in reality. to keep saying it is an upgrade is bs
2. Witt is not better than Rawlings and splitting would hurt the team, all 3 previous coaches agreed
3. I have 1 rep and it was red, big deal

make that 3 as 2 just gave me green.. i feel the love

thanks

Reading is fundamental...

"but we did replace Haar with an even higher draft pick (not that that guarantees he'll be better)"

Rawlings at his peak is better but how often is that? And when, certainly not in big games. Witt is consistent. In every game he played last year, he let in zero softies. You need a goalie that will not hand momentum over to the other team randomly and in Rawlings' case too consistently. The HE Semifinals, we had a chance, and that softie Rawlings let in at the end of the 2nd was the dagger, killed our spirits and he knew it was inexcusable, throwing his head back in disgust. I'll take consistently good over great or awful any day.

If Rawlings was consistent, man, if only if only.

makes sense but clearly the staff felt they needed a goalie who could steal one, not break even
rawlings is the goalie on that team and gives them the best shot to win more than lose over the course of a season

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

G'luck to Gaudreau. He would have gotten more ice time at NU.. but he'll just have to learn watching Kreider et al.. :)
Would've been great if Madigan had convinced LaPlante to stay.. (is this still possible?)..
I do think the team will weather this storm & come together just fine.

Or some combination of the above?

In my opinion, which means absolutely nothing, I'd say a combination of all three. I'm not entirely opposed to Madigan if the situation was different (assistants staying, coach left earlier and found replacement early, etc). This hire seems a bit questionable to me given that we were already in a situation where multiple coaches were leaving and a lot of former and incoming talent bolted from the program. While I can appreciate the attempt at bringing in a Northeastern guy, what I really think this program needed was a coach who could step in from another coaching position and IMMEDIATELY get these guys on board and demand respect in a Cronin-like manner from the get-go. The decision took so long that I was sure this would be the case, and that we wouldn't really suffer from the effects of losing committed players. Instead, we get someone who hasn't really worked directly with players since the early 1990s and two new assistants below him. For some perspective, Northeastern took well over a month to find a new head coach that was working in development in the School of Business. Western Michigan took about two weeks, and brought in an NHL guy.

Three coaches don't just leave a program all in the same season just for the **** of it. I have to think that something else is going on behind the scenes. Regardless of what anybody tells me or on whom they wish to place the blame, this entire situation, in my opinion, reflects poorly from the top down. The highest I'm looking is Roby. Roby said he brought Madigan on in part to "promote Northeastern's brand." I don't know about others, but I personally want the hockey coach's focus plantly firmly in one direction: winning hockey games and recruiting the players necessary to do so. Further, if this team doesn't succeed and do it quick, there will be even less of a "brand" than there already is to promote.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

The same coaches hope the friars don't split goalies next year. You really don't know our coach, do you?
