Northeastern Huskies 2023-24: Brave New World or New Beginning?

Yes, Lund took a hit from Hreschuk (I think) in the Sat game v BC. Dropped his stick and went back to the bench. Appeared to be right shoulder/side the way he carried himself off.

Levi vs Primeau turned out to be must see TV: Basically a 2-2 tie but MTL wins in Round 3 of the ignoble shootout.

Ironically, the first goal against Levi was scored by former NU teammate Jayden Struble (also his first NHL goal). Mike Kesselring, another former Husky, scored on Levi for ARZ last night (also his first) but BUF prevailed, 5-2. Husky-on-husky.

NU wins 4-3 in OT v UMD today. Come back from 2-0 deficit after one period. Jack Williams hat trick. Fontaine had the other goal. Good to see Borgesi and McDonald back in the lineup today. Outzen still in for Demelis. NU outshot 36-23, but dominated faceoffs, winning 48 losing 16.

Thanks to the YES network for picking up the game from Bally Sports, which is unavailable on local Verizon network. I couldn't get our radio feed. The 3rd period must have sounded awful! If we hadn't won 75% of the faceoffs, we would have been nothing more than spectators during that stretch.

Whitehead made some AMAZING saves to keep us alive. After his first hat trick since he was 14, Williams gave "Whitey" the "first star" in his post-game interview. The kid is a mensch! There are reasons that he wears an "A" as a sophomore.

Wisconsin (14-4) is playing in the late game tomorrow, win or lose. Our guys would be well advised to watch the first period of their AF game, and turn in. They'll need to get a lot of sleep!

Ouch..not looking very good. They had one shot in the 2nd and were totally outclassed. I used a suspect web app to watch this it works.

Take away the Doyle and Whitehead (he played really well but for this one) gifts and who knows?

I didn’t see much of Doyle after his awful giveaway. His recent play led me to believe he’d turned the corner. Perhaps he did, but then he turned the next corner and, once again, deserves to be headed back to a seat in the stands.
I agree about Whitehead. He’s improving nicely. In the next week he has to prepare to face the likes of Quinnipiac and bu. Daunting!

That was actually a pretty good game. NU loses in the SO but it's a tie in the books against #3. NU had some D lapses but pressured on O with nearly 40 shots. Nice to get into the barn for a game before the snow.

Finally got to see this team in person for the first time this year and I liked what I saw. Finally, some sustained pressure in the attacking zone as 43 shots on the defending national champs would attest. Two of QPac's three goals were from long distance but couldn't tell if Whitehead was screened. OTOH, the kid had some A-1 saves from in close. Stay healthy and keep playing like that and they should be able to more than hold their own through the second half.

BTW, Pecknold's demanding a video review of a video review was bizarre.

Phenomenal game. Some stuff that still needs to get cleaned up that would create better pressure and reduce opponent opportunities.

the first goal was a whiff on a pass at the blue line that’s just unacceptable. Too many pucks still going past sticks at the blue line, especially on the power play. My dad would say see the puck hit the stick. No point in looking up to figure out what you’re gonna do with it if you never handle the puck.

played the dump and no chase a lot in this game too which isn’t a great viewing experience. But otherwise this was one of the most fun games to watch this season. Things definitely seem to be clicking and our ability to compete with the best teams in the country is promising.

Also great to see choupani and McDonald out there. Two of the most entertaining players to watch

Last night was good and bad however looking at the schedule and Pairwise we simply won't have any shot at the NCAAs this year aside from winning HE. I'm not hopeful of a deep run, team is ok but flawed in some ways that just aren't coachable. They are ok nothing more nothing less can play with anybody but are a hair shy of the metal of the league. Still we can get out of last place. 3 points v Vermont must happen this weekend. They really just need a couple more pieces but with graduation, transfer portals and 5th year guys I'm not feeling good about the future.

BU is clearly on another level. NU had sparks where they looked like they could keep pace, but the individual skill and consistency of execution is several notches below. That said I think NU is at a spot where they should be in the upper quarter of hockey East. The injury bug and bad morale in the first half reflected in the standings doesn’t reflect where they are today.

I disagree a little bit in that I think a lot of the factors they are lacking in should be coachable. More consistent execution may not be achievable within the season but I just don’t know what their “identity” is trying to be today.

OnePack, I'd say top half of HE, yes. With almost every player healthy, this team can beat anybody. A couple of defensive lapses and the bogus 'holding' call on Campbell gave BU the edge thry needed to win the game. Walton let Stevens go on the first goal. Williams failed to pick up late man Jeremy Wilmer in OT. Walton and Williams played strong games, setting up goals, too. On to Vermont.
