Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

Speaking of reason...what was your reason for posting the tweet?

My reason for posting the tweet citing Jeff as the source was I follow Cedar Rapids extremely closely and have many of the Roughrider fans as followers. If there is information out there pertaining to a CR player I usually tweet it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

Yes. You REPORTED something on a player. You didn't verify it.

Thanks...

Cox, btw, does not have a very solid track record when it comes to accuracy.

So Minnesota is coming!? If so there will be many others who will wish to introduce him to the "Bronx Cheer".

Makes me wish I was here for those games. The kid lied to my face when I asked him about him staying/leaving, and I know a number of players are still ****ed at him. Don't think we've ever booed a player every time they touched the puck, except maybe JVR back in the day. Szmatula will be the next one to get that treatment.

He wasn't greeted very politely in his first game, IIRC.

I'm not particularly close to anyone directly involved with the on-ice aspect of the team but the grapevine had it that he had an off-ice issue with a teammate. Apparently, he had fully cut himself off from his teammates prior to the Beanpot. It was also said that he and his father had, for all practical purposes, moved him out of his dorm room when he went home to Michigan for Spring break last year.

I have to say that his play was pretty insipid and uninspired when they returned from Christmas break. He put up a lot of goose eggs, IIRC.

Are you a student?

Grt8:
You are right about Cox and his track record. In his eagerness to break news, he has failed to corroborate several stories that I've seen - and I haven't known enough about non-NU stories to be able to recognize if it happens with any frequency.

As for Szmatula: He simply lacked character and, dare I say, he lacked ethics. He was missing parts of his education that one does not get in school. He has left smoldering bridges behind wherever he has been in recent years. I'm not sure how he has been "appreciated by the Goophers as they have gotten to know him. I hope they let him suit up when they come to Matthews, so that the fans and players can express their appreciation in a clear and unmistakable manner.

By and large, reporting about NU hockey in the general blogosphere/social media world is pretty poor. Sean Hathaway is an idiot and everyone else is too busy genuflecting to Jerry York or Dave Quinn.

Yes. I'm the outgoing leader of the DogHouse, graduating in May and have been in charge of the student section for the past 3 years. Seen a lot during my 5 years here, and have developed good relationships with the players and coaches. Gonna miss this, but will continue to be a passionate supporter in grad school the next 2 years. HHound summed up Szmatula really well as a human being. Not much more needs to be said.

and HH, thanks for the date. Will try to make it, need to see how my studies are going at the time

Are you the megaphone man? You've done a great job. Best student section in Hockey East and I go to a lot of games in the area.

Were you the guy who was on Kyle Hayton last year? That was hilarious, too.

Yup that's me. Hi. I appreciate the kind words, it hasn't been easy but I am very proud of what the DogHouse has become in my time here. Hopefully the kids that are taking over can keep it up. I have faith that they will.

So I SHOULDN'T hang the banner upside down and accidentally set the place on fire?

I'll consider it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

Nolan's goal against Colgate made the list...ZAR's goal against BC and Roy's goal against Maine did not:

If I had a say, I would have nominated Ryan Ruck's barehanded save against Minnesota in October - before we had begun to play like we wanted to win.

Forgot all about that one...he also made a great glove save close to my own backyard in the game against Bentley that I would imagine there has to be video of somewhere...

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

..that Ruck save def belongs ..one heck of a save! didnt it make it to espn or somewhere when it happened..?
anyway, the North Dakota play as well (the one that made #1 on this list).. wow, super puck movement.

ZAR's goal against BC, which is similar to Nolan's, is probably my favorite one from the season...summed that player up in the entire sequence...my second favorite is probably Gaudette's goal the next night on the feed from McMurtry...

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

Former NHL Selke winner John Madden's son Tyler just committed to NU. He played at Avon Old Farms and was drafted by Omaha of the USHL last spring. He also an OHL draft pick, but obviously if he's coming to NU he's not going that route. Don't know much about him, but I have to assume he's good defensively.

Madden was originally committed to Colorado College.

From the USHR Teal Invite review from 6/24/15.
Tyler Madden, #8 Top Shelf Hockey/Avon Old Farms, Colorado College Late ’99 – One of the most impressive forwards in the tournament, Madden is shifty, quick, elusive, and very hard for defenders to contain. He’s a true playmaker and his awareness with the puck on his stick is pretty special for a player his age. Son of former University of Michigan and NHL center John Madden.

Just because he's committed does not guarantee that he would show to NU as an OHL pick, but being the son of a college player and teammates with another highly regarded NU commit I would expect him to fulfull his commitment. His dad played all 4 years in college to earn his degree so I assume he has instilled the value of education in his son.
