Northeastern Huskies 2015-2016 Part Duex: Enjoy the Ride at the Gahden Party!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2015-2016 Part Duex: Enjoy the Ride at the Gahden Party!

As many others have said, it just wasn't our day yesterday and I don't know if any day would have been our day against NoDak. They we're extremely impressive, not just with their speed and skill but they seemingly won every battle and 50/50 puck and it was challenging at times for NU to even enter the zone. Hard to see the Sioux losing, but hockey is a mysterious game sometimes.

Thank you to the seniors. Yesterday doesn't erase how special the last few months were. Now we wait and hope ZAR is still here next fall.

This will be my last post ever-- I retired with a playoff picking record of 7-0- 100% BABY A+++++++++++++++ F1UC2K ALL YALL HATERS. KEVIN ROY 4EVA!!!

Bye, Mookie.

..don't worry.. if his team goes 0-3 to finish the season.. (or 1-4).. he'll be here soon enough to talk something up re Husky hockey or NU this or that..
mookie can't help himself.. we kinda used to it, but his rants never get old.. :)

Congrats on a great season. If it's any consolation, that was the best game UND has played this year.

Some talk about ZAR leaving, any chance Benning or Nolan leave? Those seem like the 3 most likely candidates.

I think we have another year out of Nolan. I see him and John leaving together and I don't think they're both done here quite yet.

Benning you could probably argue either way, but the Bruins don't have a ton of organizational contracts open right now, plus they have Gryz to sign before Benning, so I could see him getting put on the back burner. We also don't even know how they feel about him considering Jim drafted him.

ZAR is probably the likeliest option. If he does not leave I will actually be surprised, pleasantly surprised. Nolan I don't think there is any chance. He will likely be drafted, and I cannot see a team looking to sign him and plug him in immediately especially after the growth he had under JM and Co. Also the John/Nolan dynamic factor. Benning is the wild card. I think his uncle leaving will be a plus for us- the organization has no ties to him anymore, and has other better prospects to sign ahead of him. I think John will be captain next year and Benning will be alternate captain.

I'd be shocked if J. Stevens and Benning didn't both get a C. They both have NHL relatives in high places who JM will not want to offend.

ZAR (if he's back, which he may be after his disappearance in the UND game) and Nolan will each get an A. If ZAR jumps, then look for an A to go to Cockerill or Sikura. I would lean toward Cockerill for that one.

N.Stevens is to old to get drafted. Benning I would be absolutely shocked if he left. Bruins took him in the 6th round, doubt they are even interested in him, or remember that they drafted him. ZAR is the flight risk. he should stay over playing in AHL next year, but we have seen far worse players leave early.

The Bruins are very interested in Benning and monitor his progress carefully. That said, I don't expect him to jump this year. In 16 months he can be a free agent, in case his uncle wants him for Vancouver, which is far closer to home. ZAR should see a fair amount of pressure to sign this year. I don't know how close he is to his degree, but, unlike KRoy, his major does not require a graduate degree. I can't imagine the Stevens Bros. signing this year, but I could conceive of both of them signing next year. If there is a surprise signing, I can't guess who it would be. Kurker? If someone is not doing well in school, he should speak to Ludwig or Torin about life in the ECHL. If they do, they'll run, not walk, to the Registrar's office to get into the courses they want for next semester!

Speaking of early departures, Jason Cotton has played 24 games with Youngstown and produced 5-4-9. No other coach has snapped him up as of now. His leaving gave Pat Schule an opening that he skated through and made the 4th line RW his spot.

N. Stevens is in his last year of eligibility for the draft. I expect him to go in the 4th or 5th round.

Agree with you on Benning and ZAR. Benning does not have NHL foot speed.

ZAR is most prototypical NHL player on the roster and, unlike Roy last year and other drafted guys, has 30 teams to choose from instead of just one. He is the biggest flight risk, though I think he likes playing at NU and may get better exposure to those 30 teams by staying.

How do you think Mike Szmatula is doing, watched the team he was to good for win HE. 24 year old Junior next year.

Is #21 young for his class? I would think he goes higher than 4th

Nolan is really young yes. Griffin is too, he's going to be eligible for each of the next two drafts. Nolan would seem to have the puck skills and frame to be a decent pick, but he also went undrafted last year, so we'll see.

So he has been eligible before, usually if you don't go year 1 you don't go year 2. He did have a great year, he will be back.

More importantly, the guys didn't miss him in the locker room or on the ice. We scored more without him than with him. I expect that if has any success, he'll play one year at most for the goophers . He'll pick up his degree (if he has any smarts at all) and offer himself up to the pros before he ages out of the game entirely.
