Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Just checked Heisenberg's 2015 page and Duchenese and Courtinier are not listed?

That is because they are no longing coming.

From what I understand, Couturier and his advisor/(father) decided last spring that he was ready to play D1. We disagreed + we didn't have Scholarship $ + we had a full complement of D's + a couple of other things. We cut him free and no one else picked him up. He is supposed to play for the Jr. Bruins this season. Hopefully he attracts another D1 school. Otherwise....

Duschesne, OTOH, was discovered to be doing something that is verboten in most places. That is why he and a UMass recruit (two of the team's top players) were suspended for the team's playoffs last year. Last I heard, The UMass player was still in line to attend, but JM won't tolerate that kind of activity and will possibly provide the boy some help in finding a spot elsewhere.

I believe that both of these players have been replaced opn the recruit board. Barry, for example, should prove to be a very good pickup.

Hadn't heard about either, this is a real shame. I was hoping to see Couturier at Matthews. Though as you say we'll have a glut of Dmen next year, and Barry, along with Eric Williams, will be contributing as well right off the bat (hopefully)

Not such a shame in the sense that Couturier may have had an inflated opinion of his readiness and overall skill. He took some bad advice and, through his actions, he shot himself in the foot with respect to NU. And once again, we are reminded of how youth is wasted on the young.

Hopefully he finds a spot where you'll be able to see him at Matthews - once a year.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

So Couturier wanted to come in '14 NU had no scholarship and wanted him to stay '15. He was cut lose has nothing and is now hoping for a '15 opportunity. Good call

We wanted him to stay for another year of juniors regardless of the scholarship $.
He took steps that earned his "cut loose". He was allowed (by some advisor) to believe that someone would pick him up for 2014. It didn't happen. As a result he gets to play for a good program in a weaker league. Hopefully he will play well, and will attract annother coach's attention. It should happen.

So when does practice officially start or have they started already? I saw a pic of a few players on the ice but has team practice started yet.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Copied and pasted from my post on DHD:

NU lands a big time recruit in '97 D Ryan Shea, from BC High. Had known offers from Boston College, Merrimack, and UConn

From OTB: Huskies land a premier puck-moving d-man who should become a key contributor before long. New NU recruit Ryan Shea was our 3rd-ranked uncommitted prospect. A hard and accurate passer, strong skater, dangerous with the puck.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Is his plan one more year at BC High, one year USHL, then arrive at NU (so a 2016 arrival)? Or is he going to Youngstown this year?

I would think the former makes more sense. The school year has already started. Does Youngstown have his rights? Personally I would think Youngstown would be among the last places I'd like to spend my teen years.

Premier yet only known offers from one premier program? I've seen two different accounts in regard to BC: 1) Didn't have grades 2) Wasn't offered the deal he wanted. Couldn't tell you if either is accurate, but if he is in fact "premier", nice get for you guys.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

Perhaps you don't realize how difficult it is to get admitted to Northeastern these days. For a non-athlete 1350-1450 will probably get you in IF you've taken the right courses and have some AP classed sprinkled in. Moving up to #42 in the USNWR beauty contest has brought with it a flood of applications from better students around the US and in foreign countries. I'm sure we cut recruited athletes some slack, but that's pretty common, even in the Ivy league and certainly along Commonwealth Ave.

It is quite possible that Mr. Shea simply felt more comfortable with the overall situation at NU. That happens more often than you may realize.

BC and bu can't recruit everyone, although bu seems to be trying.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014 Offseason: Resurrection's Over....Now What?

typical BC arrogance. I know that it might come as a shock to them but sime do t want to play there or pick other programs. Very good pick up by NU. Same with Filipe, could have easily been a top two line guy at BC.

Now this is something we can agree on - unlike Collier's eligibility!;)

BC High this year, Youngstown next year and NU for 2016.

Makes perfect sense. There are relatively few players who are able to jump from public H.S. directly into D1. Most players can benefit from a year in the USHL a.k.a. Hockey Finishing School.
