Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Kevin Roy leaving after this season? What do you guys think his chances of staying are at this point 35/65?

I don't think so. A recent article one him (I think by the Globe?) gave the indication that he values his degree a heckuva lot, so it would not shock me if he stayed in school to finish his Bachelor's with a minor. I'd put it closer to 65/35 staying. Zero inside info though. I know the coaches fully expected Manson to leave after last year. Not sure if they feel the same about Roy.

i just saw he scored a bucket friday and haven't heard much of him all year. made me think of when nieto left. he really came alive in the 2nd half of the year and got noticed. none of us expected him to go until the last couple weeks. i remember telling someone we should hope he cools down cause now all of a sudden sj is going to sit up and see what he's doing. not like anaheim needs immediate help and all... but young kids come in at nice money so you always have to be aware nowadays.

Anaheim's needs and their opinion on Roy's readiness are likely paramount and none of us have that info, so we have to put that to the side. Anaheim is fairly loaded. I also wonder if Manson speaks to Kevin about his experience with this organization. He made it up to the Ducks for a bunch of games, but hasn't been up with the big team since mid-December. With the emergence of Derick Roy as a legit Hockey East goalie this season, perhaps it would be enticing to Kevin to come back for a season where he can be the offensive star while his brother is the number one goalie. That would be an NU story for the ages if the season goes well.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

The usual answer with NHL draft picks is that they'll do whatever the team with the draft rights want then to do. A complicating factor in KRoy's case (if I'm understanding his situation correctly) is that his draft rights expire this year. So if Anaheim thinks so much of him that it feels a need to protect its "property," then they'll want to get him signed so they can get him in their system. Hope I'm wrong on this but that's what I've been told.

Notwithstanding that, the prospect of KRoy leading the charge and DRoy holding the fort next year is compelling in and of itself.

Oh, and speaking of KRoy, NU fans need to start voting for him on hobeybaker.com. The public vote is something of a sham (counts for 1%) but voting, IMO, is a way of engaging with and showing support for the program, not to mention a nice way of saying "thanks" to the player. One vote per day per device. Do it!

The rights expiring could also swing the balance of power a bit back towards Roy though. If his rights expire after this year and he wants to stay at NU, he could be inclined to just "pull a Schultz" and sign as a FA next year. If Anaheim still had his rights next year he'd basically have to do what they say or end his career.

rights expire after sr year. teams try to get kids signed after jr year to keep them from playing out their school years and becoming fa's

I thought it was 4 years after being drafted? Which would look like it'll be Roy's senior season, but would affect players who get drafted early then don't enroll immediately, like miles wood for BC.

If he stays through until his fourth year of eligibility, then they retain his rights until the August 15 following that season. If he leaves before then, they retain his rights until the later of the fourth June 1 following his drafting and 30 days after the NHL central registry receives notice that he has left school for good.

I belive K Roy would be the 1st person in his very Catholic family to have a college education to them I beleive the degree is as important as a career in hockey for both their sons, so my ears on the track tell me he is staying for his senior year, I am told he's a fairly good student too and takes his studies serously. I also think lil bro gets the net next year, so he sticks is around for that!

You mean big bro. He's a year behind in school, but a year ahead in life. It would be the feel good story of the year.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

So here we are 5 games left in the regular season and the team has made it very interesting. Did we ever think that this team would be knocking on the door of the pair rating top 16 after there horrible start. To me yes!!! This team has allot of talent and had some real unfortunate things happen to them at the start of the season, however after the Minnesota game things changed and the team got some of its main cogs back and other players started to believe in themselves and there teammates, plus the coaches made some great adjustments. So here we are (Maine and BU) LIke I believe it will be a very interesting two weeks where will determine the men from the boys. NU has not surprised allot of us on its reassurgance and arguably may be one of the best teams in the nation. However time will tell. So lets hope that the boys continue this upward swing

14-3-3 in last 20 and NU can't break the top 20 of the USCHO poll?? A lot of voters are asleep.

hopefully take care of business in orono..they'll get in there. anyway they should not care & just focus on the gms at hand.. if they continue preparing and playing well.. rest should fall into place. just enjoying them playing hockey right now. Go Huskies

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Northeastern is spot on. They just need to focus on one game at a time that's what brought them back and truthfully they have not accomplished anything but respectability. So Huskys keep it going and keep focused. There destiny is in there hands and for the beanpot lets wait until Sunday to discuss this.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Judging by the fact he is a year older than KRoy and undrafted, I would think Szmatula would be more likely to bolt after this year if he is given a good offer. If he does stay, I could see him getting the 'C' next year. He works his butt of every shift, and is someone you'd want the younger players to emulate.

Mike Eidelbes (@INCH) has a few Tweets out taking his colleagues to task over this and also for not noticing KRoy. One says if the kid was at BC, the media would be falling all over themselves to cover him.

! Maine sucks!..
;-)

just trying to get this back to page 1.. but seriously.. hope NU does not trip up thinking about the Monday gm. They shouldn't care about it until both these gms are up.

so in the meanwhile.. its not Maine that sucks.. its the Beanpot. :-)
