Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Do not like so many days off between gms.. especially late season. Beanpot rescheduling was just too bad. Anyway, hope the team has scrimmaged hard.. we need a solid effort out of the gate.. no soft first periods..! Go NU

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

The game is presently scheduled for 3:35 PM. Wasn't it originally scheduled for 7PM?

Given the weather coming in Sat night.. this (Sat gm start) looks brilliant.
.. now, we just need to look & play brilliant.. starting tonight!

Go you NU Huskies!
(still love ya Jim Calhoun)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

1 PM would look much better. It'll snow much earlier in Hartford. I was going to drive down but I'm concerned what the roads will be like by 6.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

..and I want to add.. Witt & co look pretty sharp thus far..
let's just watch those penalties, team..

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I know UConn has a winning record at home.. but based on their legs tonight.. not sure how much is left there for the tomorrow's gm.
Nice forecheck by NU all gm.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

After seeing the score tonight I'm disappointed in NU. Poor effort. How do you not get 10?!??? Ok, I'm greedy. 😜

They're going to tighten things up for sure for gm tomorrow.. UConn, that is.
Having said that.. hopefully NU can help themselves again as the other HE teams did not help us much in the standings tonight.

Safe travels everyone.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

The fact that we could be 7th in Hockey East with 20 points after tomorrow while just one game out of BC in second with 22 is insane.

Actually Calhoun was at the game tonight. Said he was taking the grandkids out to watch his favorite two college hockey teams.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

We're in business in the Pairwise, currently tied for 19th with 2 other teams. We can't afford a loss to UConn tomorrow or Maine next week; a tie in there wouldn't be the end of the world. From there, those 3 straight bu games give us a great chance to move up. The next month we will play a lot of meaningful games...that's really all you can ask for given the start.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I arrived in Boston late tonight because every street seems like a one way street with traffic and cars covered with snow the side streets are un passable. However when I got to my seats they were just singing the national anthem. I was with the CT friends and UCONN fans tonight who just as we had stepped in from St Boltoph Street immediately spotted Jim Calhoun in the lobby and made their way over to say hello. He sat in the varsity club next to the heavy hitters from EMC. I thought it was a bad omen until we were up 5 at the end of the 1st and in route to a 9 to zip shelling of the other Huskies in Blue.

The stands were nearly empty tonight with likely less than 1000 in attendance due to a number of factors and it was not exatly the envirnment I was hoping for. It didnt matter because everything NU shot wound up in the back of the net. Our Hounds even had a no call goal, that could have gone the other way but video evidence was not conclusive.

They also hit 2 or 3 posts and could have scored 12 goals tonight. I have never seen a goalie not pulled under such a mental lapse because lots of the NU goals were soft. That said this was the same UCONN net minder who before his notch in the win column at Lowell gave up 10 to PC. That’s 19 goals allowed in 5 periods of hockey. The Blue Husky coach was quoted as saying her wanted his net minder to work through it. What a poor head coaching decision because this kid was rattled form the get go.

Anyway, the real hockey Huskies skated circles around the Hartford variety for 3 periods scored on 2 PP and didn’t give up a goal in 5 Blue Husky opportunities. Nice job NU. Jim Madigan again looked like a real coach again tonight, even arguing on a eventually overturned CT goal at he end of the 1st.

Don’t look now but we are 19th in the Pairwise and if we can grab a few more points who knows an NCAA birth is a possibility. This team has played tremendously since Thanksgiving and given the horrendous start really should be given solid props for their resilience and belief that they can play with anyone because the truth is they can. Of course they will live and die with the final 2 games against BU. However, again Witt looked sharp, Aston Reese was on fire and don’t blinnk an eye as KROY could win the scoring title. What a strange season it has become. Wonderful momentum, hofully they can keep it up in Hartford tomorrow night!

if we're not going to win that one (Monday) gm in February to end the drought.. then I'd just hope we take care of everything else & make the NCAA.. of course would like that we achieve both. As a Husky fan .. well aware we may end up with neither. Still.. what a resilient group to follow & cheer for right now! Go NU
:)

Nichols shutout Merrimack on Tuesday night in between the two blowouts...against PC he got no defensive help

And he only gave up 5 of the 10, he was pulled early in the second there. So that's really 15 goals allowed in just over 7 periods of hockey.

Still bad, but not as bad as it's made out to be.
