Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

What was it that he did that caused NU to cut ties?

HH Hound has the full story. Our staff did not feel he was ready to come this year, he and his family felt otherwise.

He was one of the first kids to commit to JM too.

Me, I am waiting for the day when the best kid in a JM recruiting class was not a transfer or a verbal to another school prior.

Obviously, somebody's right and somebody's wrong WRT their assessments of this kid. We'll know the answer when he finally plays at the heights. It would also be interesting to know what kind of scholy $$$ BC is shelling out, if any.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

It is what it is with Couturier

I did some quick research on the guys coming from the USHL/USPHL next year and the year after. Not one kid is a point per game player right now. Kurker is the closest, which you would hope. The other guys are all blah. Now a kid like Jozefek I give a pass to. He is young, and coming from NJ HS hockey. Its a big step up for him. Even Ruck who we hope can come in and play next year, his stats are hardly that of a kid who looks ready to come here and challenge the two returning kids. Now, I have no idea if the kids in front of him are any good, so he may be spectacular, but we also know we have orange cones back there ourselves.

We know Cotton is lighting up the BCHL, which is good. And no way to track the Prep school kids.

Next years class looks like a lot like this class. One kid who could be impact (Rosenthal), a bu transfer, and see what sticks.

You make no assessment of the quality of the Defensemen, which, to my way of thinking is, is more critical to our improvement than the forwards. Williams is the top D on a very strong Aurora Tigers team (which gave us Mclaughlin ande Fennel recently). He is also one of the top scoring Ds in the league. Jon Barry, with the South Shore Kings, was considered to be a draft candidate last year. He had planned to go to PC to play Lacrosse. He replaced Couturier and appears to be playing well

We lose zippo from the senior class. In fact, I could argue that Dax is an addition through subtraction. Reid has managed to play his way down to the 4th line. If those two were not captains, they would be candidates for "healthy scratching". Snydeman hustles and does something good about every third game, but his claim to fame on this team is that he is one of two right shot forwards.

You didn't mention it, but Gaudette has been playing regularly and contributing for a pretty good Cedar Rapids team. He could be accelerated. I don't know how the boy at Avon Farms is doing as I no longer subscribe to USHR. I has gotten too expensive and less informative. Perhaps another poster can keep us up on Griffin, Felipe and Armstrong.

You mean IF he plays at the heights. I'd be very surprised if he is getting any meaningful scholarship $ from them in his early years. Perhaps he (as well as Jerry & Co.) is betting on the fact that one of their "Stud" defensemen will bolt to the pros.

I do not judge d-man based on their stats like forwards, you need to really see them to get a grasp on them. But if a forward is not scoring goals prior to coming here, he typically will continue to not score goals once he gets here. Barry has played 30 games and has like 2 goals and 10 assists. But I do not find that very meaningful information. He could still suck. Though his lax background gives me hope that he has excellent hand-eye coordination, but lax does not help his skating skills.

As for Williams, not interested in kids from that league. None of them have panned out to be even a league average player yet. Its taken two full season to get any kind of actual hockey play out of Fennel, so I do not consider that a "win".

As for this senior class, I am sure they are strong character kids. I hope they all leave with a degree in hand.

Why does it matter if they commited somewhere else? Here is this kid going to BC. Happens all the time.

I am not sure if you are drinking more now, but I am having a real hard time following you.

I am not sure if you are drinking more now, but I am having a real hard time following you.

Let me help.

If you look at a forwards stats and they have 20 goals in 15 games, good chance they will be able to score goals in college. If a forward has 2 goals in 15 games, chances are they will not be an offensive force when they get here. We knew Kevin Roy could score because he did prior to coming here in a good league. We knew that Tanner Pond was not going to score here because he did not in the same league Roy came from. Instead Tanner had "other intangibles".

For dmen - I find the stats to not tell the whole story on if a kid will be able to handle the position here. So a kid who might have gone for 2-10-12 in 30 games, may actually be the better d prospect then a kid in the same league who goes 10-10-20 in 30 games.

As for getting kids to come here who commit here first, it matters to me. I like the idea our guys can find the good kids early and bring them in.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

As the 1st half of the season is now over we can all agree that the 1st part of the season has been not what we all thought it would be, however we have seen signs of improvement and quite some big strides. We have seen early season injuries. Players not getting off to starts we all thought they would but can we all agree that the team has looked like they are starting to get there games together?. With Witt back and the defense playing better and the guys that we think that need to start contributing are starting to does any one agree with me that the 2nd part of the season may be a very interesting and we may even have a chance to end up on the top 5 of the league and possibly a beanpot championship. The expectations still have not changed we have a good team and as we see we are getting better. I don't think that this Tuesdays game will be any measuring stick as this is the last game and I believe that the players are itching to gone home for the holidays. The lines now have been playing together and kind of set. Winning at Providence was huge for there confidence and I believe all of ours. So lets play the school teachers and grade the team the players and the coaches. In a time of the lull we have in the schedule this would be great dialog .

UMass stands in the way of being done for the year. They are a team that as it stands, we should handle them with ease, even with our well documented struggles. If the team looks past UMass hoping to get to break faster, we are going to see some ugly hockey. The team has been playing better, I agree. But they still fall into bad habits on D, as seen in the first PC game, hanging Witt out to dry. Our PK is still trash, hopefully the coaches can find some way to alter it for the better in the second half.

Gunn has not been at practice this week...I fear that his injury really is serious. Lines at practice have stayed consistent, identical to what we saw against PC. ZAR/Szmats/Torin remains line #2, Sikura in at 4th LW.

FYP to place much needed emphasis on the "may" part. Going into this season, there was every reason to believe that this team would at least qualify for home ice in the playoffs, find a respectable niche in the national polls, and be a force to be reckoned with in the Beanpot. My hopes have already been crushed once and I don't care to go through that again. As you point out, the expectations still have not changed but, instead of going through another round of hopes being crushed, I'll approach the second half by simply allowing myself to be pleasantly surprised by whatever successes come along.

Now excuse me while I head out to Santa's Village and beat up some elves.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

i liked hedges being with roy.

Why? 1/2 of Hedges points are on the PP. Its not like Roy has lit it up with him at center, all of 3 goals on the season.

Maybe they light it up in the 2nd half. I still think Szmatula should be Roy's center though.

I think they can hit 10 wins if they win the games they should, 2 with UMass, 2 with UConn, split with Maine, split with St. Lawerence. Throw an upset in there somewhere, maybe they can sneak a game from UVM. They have 19 games left to do it.
