Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

...I have been saying for 20 years, they shouldn't be this bad all the time. But maybe that is who they are, and who they always will be....

...And I (and others) are saying that we cannot and should not tolerate such a chronic level of mediocrity in a university that now regards itself as world class. The Notre Dames, Stanfords, BCs, and others are committed to the ideal that their marquee sports programs feed public perceptions, and are committed to ensuring that those programs reflect the same level of excellence that that the university as a whole aspires to. Northeastern in the 21st Century should be no different.

+10. This was very well said, something I had also said for the last 2 years. Well done Split N.

11 F, 7 D tonight. Gunn in DD out, Owens in as well.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Just saw the line-up on Twitter. So, JM rants and raves at the press conference about how the effort was unacceptable and nobody's job was safe and changes would be made to the line-up. And what does he do? He benches Darou and Sikura, slides Snydeman up from the fourth line to the second line, and adds Owens and Gunn on D. Wow, what a shake-up. He sat the 12th forward and the 6th D-man and added a couple of slow-footed, non-scoring, penalty machines on defense. I don't think anything else changed. Take Providence and give the points.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

...Remember when JM took over, new coaches came in at PC and UML too, and their rosters had done nothing the year before, and now look at where they are and where we are!...

You forgot Michigan Tech, which had a coaching change at the same time and has been in the national Top Ten for most of this season.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Just got out of work and checked in on the game to see how it's going. Saw a tweet that NU had seven men on the ice for a TMM penalty. Went to the CHN app for an update and it looks like NU took that penalty WHILE ON THE POWER PLAY. WOW. Oh, nice Saucerman scores from Hedges and Roy, NU leads 1-0, early second.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

..Doesn't mean NU can't be better, but you are what you are. I still think JM is the right man for the job, I think overall they will be better, but they will never be what you guys think in your head NU can be..

if you have a inferiority complex.. take some meds .. stop pounding it on recent alumni & fans!

Your pal JM.. when he is let go (hopefully soon enough) .. would not find another coaching gig in college hockey because no one is as naïve as the ADs office at NU (at the time).. to turn reigns over of a D1 program.. to a guy unqualified for the nuts & bolts. Can't be out of the game 18 odd yrs & all of sudden expect a convenient miracle. JM should have know better.. starts by being honest with yourself! When Cronin left.. he found another hockey gig because he is serious about what he does & the hockey world sees it. When the next guy lands here.. (hopefully) it will be with enough merit to Head Coach here or anywhere else..!.. same goes for most other HCs currently in Hockey East.

I am glad you are not a turnaround specialist.. cause the rest of NU would not have ever changed! Cause we are (were) what we are!..

Jim Madigan has good graces & stock in one place.. the confines of the Northeastern University admin & fundraising offices.. not behind the bench at Matthews arena. Far as future recruits..gimme a break!.. every school goes through this with staff change.. if they are good enough.. they'll be allowed to come on board. If they de-commit.. will be (mostly) because they have been seen & are deemed not good enough by the new Coach. Gaudreau wanted to play for Cronin.. Gillies the same. Pls understand the recruiting landscape..

As has been pounded here on these forums.. bunch of schools changed HCs around same time & saw change for the better!.. this goes beyond the next W or L for the Huskies..

Steve, I've said this before about your pal JM.. will say it again.. Never Confuse Enthusiasm With Capability.

Thank you for educating me. You blame Roby for this decision, here is a little fact for you as well. When Crowder was let go. The #1 choice by then AD O'Brien was JM who turned the job down.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I'm not going to get into it with you anymore, because (i'm finding out).. its hopeless.. however NU & our situation is not!

Just be happy for Qunnipiac.. which is where you went. Far as NU.. hope they hang on for the W tonight.. currently.. (given our sorry state).. that is about the only thing I can be glad about.

That is exactly correct. Jay Heinbuck also was under consideration, but he was well set as chief of scouting for Pittsburgh, IIRC, and passed.

I'llk agree that Witt had an excellent game and would have had a shutout if Mingoia's shoulder hadn't deflected Saracino's shot. The much maligned D played a very effective game and the forwards forechecked well and blocked PC's passing lanes in much the same way that PC had on Wednesday nights.

I guess whatever adjustments were made came from the fertile imaginations of Dax Lauers and Adam Reid. Certainly the coaches can't be given any credit. After all, they can barely skate!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

least Madigan is trying hard to keep his job sending his pals over to the forum just in case..

we have 4 wins in 15 gms.. we can always ride witt some more!..

you guys are beyond reason.. hope they can keep winning & shut me up.. but I know if they keep losing.. wont shut you both up, because coach wouldn't have it any other way.. :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

And those four wins have come in the last six games. Whether people want to admit it or not, the team has been playing better than they were for the first 8 games. We can bicker all we want about JM, his coaching style, is he qualified, should he be let go, etc... that should NOT take away chatter about what actually has happened on the ice. I am in the "JM should go" boat, but focusing on that every darn weekend is getting old. People wanted to see the team rebound, see coaching adjustments made, see a positive result, and we got one. Yet now winning is a bad thing? It seems that how we played is becoming irrelevant, when in reality the marked improvement should be at the center of discussion- possession numbers up, faceoff success up, PP has been clicking, the much-maligned Benning has taken steps forward... This PC team kicked out butts on Wednesday, in our building, and we went in there and played arguably our best 60 minutes of hockey to take 2 points from them in theirs. There is a reason to feel good tonight for NU hockey fans. Need to enjoy it, not lament it.

+1

I am among those who have come to be concerned about the state of the program under JM but no freaking way I'm hoping for more losses as a way of justifying those concerns. I have great personal respect for JM and desperately hope he is successful at turning the ship around.

But wins over ranked teams like Minnesota and PC illustrate a point I've made before that there is a fair amount of talent on this team. They're certainly not the most talented but they are far from the least talented, which makes me scratch my head all the more trying to figure out why they have only four wins in 15 games.

Another puzzlement: Conventional pre-season wisdom held that, while team defense was a concern, this team would not have a problem putting pucks in the other teams' nets. But the way things are playing out, the offense is turning out to be more of a problem than the defense. Go figure.

..you make some good points. this NU fan is very happy with this latest W & every W for the Huskies. they come not as often as the team & us would like. that does not mean one cannot step back & take overall look at the direction of the program. JM should be in the hot seat. Period.

if you have been to any game at Matthews this season.. that arena speaks a 1000 fold as to what I am trying to convey.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I do agree that I am sick of having this coaching discussion. Whatever happens happens. I am happy they won tonight, keeping themselves in the hunt. 5 points behind Providence for 4th. I admit that I am not sure if Prov has game sat hand on NU.

I'm the leader of the DogHouse this year, I've seen every game and experienced the ups and downs of the year, and the last three seasons. I've seen the students come out in droves, then disappear, reappear, and disappear the last two games. Whatever crowd packs the DogHouse this year has been energized and is always loud, which I love, but ideally I want numbers and noise hand in hand. Results will bring people in, students, alums, and general public alike. There is no disputing that by anyone. What leads us to the results is what gets disputed, whether it's coach, player, system, admin...short and sweet, that is what it comes down to. Results.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

A note related to today's game, Gunn left with an upper body injury in the 1st. JM said in his post-game comments "It doesn't look good." Always hate to see an injury, but especially to a guy who has worked his bum off and has had trouble staying healthy. Hope it isn't anything major and he's back soon.

you are the present & future of NU.. nice job.
cheer the team.. but never stop seeking & demanding better (as in life)..!
more power to you!
:)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Why hasnt Messa played? kid seems to be solid. Same with Jamieson.
If JM wanted to change things up, he'd give both a shot in game situation.
I know they won tonight, but im talking about the " big picture "
