Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

There is no such thing as a meaningless game

+1. Every game matters somehow. Whether it is points, development, or maintaining PWR, every game means something. Here's hoping the team plays like that tonight. Lines are out, basically what we should expect:

15/27/7
12/19/17
21/18/28
9/16/8

61/5
2/23
44/14

nice to see the offense get it going.. even if it is against a beleaguered team.. hey we were (are) beleaguered there for a while. Hopefully team can pick up in the New Yr.. where they left off tonight. Happy & safe Holidays all.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

They did it!! Over 3 goals! Warm up the duckboats!!

In all seriousness, it's great to see. Great offensive explosion, nice to see FIVE goals on the PP. Pretty disciplined too, compared to previous games. Sounded like one goal vs Witt was a nice snipe from Vatrano- not sure about the other two. Glad the boys ended 2014 on a high note. Hopefully it carries over to 2015, starting Jan 2 vs St. Lawrence.

Rudnick had an interesting take on the Roy/Szmatula line debate. Said he understands the argument for it, but he seems to be on the "spread the wealth" wagon.

What a great end to the year, great win! and a huge confidence builder,it's been a tough run and it's nice to see the team putting up numbers again,Witt is coming around, some of the kids are finally getting it,it's just not "pie in the sky" optimism, just thankful to see desire and pride coming back again,in spite of the AD/HC,Im really Happy for all the posters here, you guys are a good bunch and it's nice to have something encouraging to talk about.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all! :-) and Happy New Year #Peace

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I'm usually not big on running up scores but, considering how things have gone so far, I'm suspending that rule for tonight. Nice to see the offense--and especially the PP--finally click the way most of us thought it should have been clicking from the gitgo. But better late than never. Merry Christmas to all and to all, a Happy New Year wish for things to pick up in 2015 where they left off in 2014.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Hard to make much for this game other then the fact that UMass is awful, especially in goal. While there is no doubt NU deserved to win, getting 4 shots in the first and 3 goals, well, that is something that will probably not happen again. Getting 8 goals on 24 shots, having 1 out of every 3 go in, well, early holiday gifts for the team. They now have 15 PP goals on the season, 5 of which came last night. Which actually makes the box score and the +/- for UMass look funny. They gave up 8, but because 5 were on the PP, no player is more then a -1 for the night.

Seems like they are now in the middle of their annual Nov-Dec-Jan run of good play, that typically falls off as the Beanpot approaches, sometime around mid-January. Hopefully the team does not figure they are "back" now, and continues to work over this mini-break. They wont face a team that is this bad in goal until they face Umass again in February.

Anyway, based on the result last night, extension time for JM!

They finally scored 4. and then, to show that it was no fluke, they did it again!

I'm inclined to agree with Rudnick concerning playing Roy and Szmats on the same line. He knows the game (and other sports) and is very professional, unbiased, and self controlled behind the mike.

I got the answer to my own question about why Roy doesn't play in the center. The centerman has offensive and defensive responsibilities that require him to play a 200 foot game. Roy's particular skill set is geared more to the offensive side of the game and less to the defensive side. This doesn't mean he totally ignores his checking and defensive responsibilities, but he and the team benefit more from his playing primarily from the left side. It was nice to see him and Szmats having multiple goal games.

Um, which Rob Rudnick are you listening too? While he is not at the level of Jack Edwards homerism, when listening to his call, the next time a NU player does something wrong in a game, will be the first.

This is not to say he is not professional or knowledgeable, he is 100% both of those things, but his view is that its all Sunny on Huntington Ave can wear one down at times. I do prefer him over the current crop of students analysts though. They do not seem up to par with classes from a few years ago. Not to say they cant get there, but they have been, rough listens this year...

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. While none of can say 5 wins at the break is what we expected, you have to admit they are playing better the last month and with some luck they could salvage a season. Safe travels to all.

As one who will be traveling through the muck and mire later today, thanks for the safe travels thought. I'm hoping to be in town long enough to see both games vs the Larries, both of which should be very winnable.

Merry Christmas to all and to all......hopes that the second half exceeds expectations, at least to the extent that the first half disappointed.

I as well wish all Husky fans, coaches and players a great holiday and safe travels. I believe that we will see some great hockey this 2nd half and yes every game is winnable and frankly we will win games that we will be expected to win and yes we will win the bean pot this year I predict the drought will be over. Call me crazy but this team is on a up swing

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a very happy New Year to everyone on this board. I hope it is a time of peace, joy, and happiness for you and yours. See you all in 2015, looking forward to the second half for the hockey team. January 2nd is right around the corner!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Thanks for the updates Jeff. It's cool seeing takes on the future of NU, hopefully they all make it to campus and the talent thrives.

Happy New Year to everyone on the board! Hope you all can make it this weekend for St. Lawrence

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

just great.. we suck again. no creativity in moving the puck, no powerplay, or any type of credible offense thus far. Witt looks off too..
The Madigan magic continues.. he really knows how to prepare these guys.. even v/s an average ECAC team. Sure we'll do wonders @ Yale.

Glad Kevin Roy skipped this one (get well soon).. glad so did i.

New year.. same old dance..
NU Hockey.. looking for some welcome change..
soon!
