Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Madigan only played Schechter this year because of injuries. If Manson and Benning never get hurt, he never makes it back on the ice. If both are back, I doubt he gets on the ice this weekend. He would be as lost as Gunn and Dax on the big sheet, his skating ability wouldnt help him any.

If Beldsoe never got hurt Brady is selling insurance in Fargo.

I just don't have a good feeling about this weekend.

You've been hanging with Huskies01. He last had a good feeling... He can't remember when.;)

We do have a real challenge here, but we've had tougher rows to hoe in the past. If they can win the first game on Lake Whitt, it would be a massive confidence booster and bode well for the overall outcome.

I know when it was, it was going into the final week of the season against a shorthanded bu team with home ice on the line. Whoops!

If the PP is business as usual, we are going to be steamrolled.

According to SB Nation, Benning is expected to play this weekend.

'95 D Jon Barry (Thayer Academy) has committed to Northeastern

I wonder why PC didn't want him for hockey. At least we know that he's a versatile athlete.

Let's see. That makes him the 15th Defenseman for next season?

Considering D was the Achilles heel of the team this year, I say the more Dmen we bring in the better. Maybe we can put together a competent top 6 next year by infusing some new blood. I'm particularly hopeful that Owens and/or Cockerill can step in and contribute immediately.

I'm starting to get worried about the lack of a goalie recruit in the pipeline. If Clay leaves early, we have one goalie on the roster who may not even be ready for Hockey East action. We've been linked to Elijah Harris of Austin Prep, but he's 2-3 years from college hockey

Blake Weyrick maybe?

He's the dream right now. Can't say I'm hopeful, though our past history with him/his interest in the school is a bit of a bright spot. Haven't heard anything since his de-commitment though.

Hopefully the team plays like they did against Maine as opposed to how they've played in other games over the past month. unh is a bad matchup for this team, especially on the lake. Their team speed is more than enough to make turnstiles out of our lumbering defensemen. Having Manson and hopefully Benning back will be helpful, but even that might not be enough. Manson may be this team's number 1 defender, but on a competent team he would be a 2 or a 3 IMO. Benning has improved greatly over the course of the season, but the combination of inconsistent play and rust make him a risky play too.

As far as who plays as the number 6 defensemen (assuming everyone's healthy), it's pretty much a tossup in my views. While Fennell has markedly improved, he's still at the very best a depth player. Scary things happen almost every time Darou's on the ice. Schecter can skate pretty well, but I feel like he's the defensive version of Dongara. Granted, he hasn't played all that much, but he struck me as not strong on the puck and he made some suspect passes. I can see why Madigan's chosen Darou throughout the season, as he's the most experienced of the three, but with the larger ice surface and quickness of unh, Schecter might be the better play.

Don't think this has been posted, but for those who, like me, cannot make it up to UNH this weekend, Hockey East Online will be streaming all games of the playoffs here: http://www.hockeyeastonline.tv/

$40 for the All-Access pass, allowing you to watch up to 10 QF games, but if you're just interested in NU, it is $8.95 per individual game

And of course the always brilliant Huskies radio team will also be there for those who would rather not pay the fee

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Win tonight and they have a shot. Don't and I would not bet the farm on winning two in a row on Lake Whitt..

Getting Manson and Benning back will help, but neither is a shut down guy. It just pushes guy who would be better off in Division III out of the lineup.

The new kid from Thayer is a typically JM/Keefe/Foley recruit. A prep school kid from a winning program, high character, who can come in and be a practice player who knows he wont play but wont rock the boat either. The idea you can pick up a dman this late in the game for next season who can actually step in and play, it just does not happen anymore. And as someone pointed out below, if he was good, no reason why PC would not have had him on their hockey team, or told him he could attempt to walk on and still play that spring sport.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

For most of the posts regarding tonights game, the emphasis is on the D and Witt. While I do accept the fact that the D will have to play their best two games of the season so far and Witt will have to be the mid-season Witt, very few comments have been made regarding the O. I think that, if the O can get a few early goals and play their best games of the season so far, the need for the D to step up to 100%+ might not be necessary. Let's not rely totally on the Roy line either, but hope that the other lines play up to their abilities and give the UNH D and Goaltending something to remember. No, I don't expect all 4 lines to score, but if the team plays UNH the way they did against BC in the Beanpot Final (and I'm not necessarily referring to the last 4 minutes of the game), this could surprise UNH a bit and get the 2 wins the team needs to go further in the playoffs, and the NCAAs.
