Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

You've stuck it out for 3 and a half years and now you finally get to play in the HE playoffs and possibly the NCAA tournament.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder what prompted him to leave? There must have been some kind of blow-out that they managed to keep quiet.

Need a tissue?

Nah you can keep it, I'm not the one looking through an NU thread looking for an anti-BC sentence in a post from a couple a days ago. Save the tissue for when you look at the fact BC is a joke in the other major sports, BC is a laughing stock in the ACC. A little over a 4,000 avg attendance for basketball in a major conference is laughable, which is aided by serving as a home away from home for Syracuse and Duke. By all means keep the hockey arrogance, it's the only thing that school in Newton has going for them.

How was Providence's hockey attendance when they sucked? Here's a hint: really bad

Have a wonderful day

Maybe you need Midol more than a tissue at this point.

If ever a kid got a fair shake from his coaches, Cody was that kid. Perhaps he didn't think so, but he would never have lasted this long on a parker or York team. After his concussion, he made it back for the Beanpot games, where he accomplished exactly nothing. Perhaps he couldn't stomach the idea that he's played himself down from the top six to the fourth line in just one season.

I don't think he quit school, but he did quit the team. That would be incredibly dumb if he is a senior in good academic standing. Little brother Nathan will, of course, follow his big brother out the door. He was the throw-in when Cody was recruited - like Matthew Gaudreau at BC was when Johnny was shanghaied to Chestnut Hill. He wasn't ready for HEA, but he wanted to come this year and play with Cody. Perhaps he a cousin of Sam Kurker?

Hopefully we can use his scholarship for another defenseman.

Wow, what a witty retort. Yep, PC hockey attendance was not good 4 years ago. The team sucked (still haven't made the tourney since 2001), Schneider Arena was not a good place to take in a game before the renovations. That said it is logical to think PC would have considerably lower attendance whether the team is good or bad considering it's about 1/3rd the size of BC and lacks the tradition and hardware of BC hockey which is why PC hockey plays in an arena that seats a bit over 3,000 people. I thought BC was under my skin but apparently you guys have pretty thin skin yourself considering you guys have taken to the NU board to defend your Eagles over 1 sentence I wrote. If you wish to continue this ****ing contest you might be better off bringing it to the PC hockey thread because this has nothing to do with NU, my initial post was about NU but you BC fans decided to cling on to one line I wrote stating my disdain for BC.

I never said Cody did not get a fair shake, though I could understand from his perspective if he did not feel he was given one this season. How many times did he get to play with Roy or Szmatula this year? Instead he gets stuck with the bottom half guys, and never given a chance to move up. The one line that did work, him with Hedges and his brother had a great run of I think one game where all 3 guys actually looked energized and played well, and that gets taken away. Now, it was not JM's fault that he went and did something stupid in the St. Lawerence game that cost him games, but from then on, he could not touch a guy in this league without a penalty being called on him, and then when he takes an elbow to the head, nothing happens to the player who did it to him? Hockey East has supsended other guys after the fact this year, Lomberg for the first game against us two weeks ago, who came to Cody's defense? Or was there just not enough video evidence to convict?

This season sucked for him, but he should not have sulked away either. In the end, the goals we expected to come from him, came from Pimm instead, so in that sense, his suck season did not hurt his team. If Pimm is at his usual 4 goals now, it would have been a much bigger issue.

This part is actually great news. Nathan Ferriero had the same 10-cent head as his brother, with maybe a third of the talent. JM has shown the 1 thing he can do is recruit/steal good prospects away from other teams. With the current defense in shambles, and no replacement for Witt in place, a full scholarship is precious.

They have 3 d coming in next year as of now, I am assuming Nathan is gone. But he probably won't be the only one, wouldn't be surprised if one of the 3 sophomore's are sent with him. Would be great if he could get a junior transfer in.

...BC really dodged a bullet with him [Cody]...went to NU, got himself suspended a few times, and aside from scoring 4 or 5 goals in 1 game, pretty much was invisible. If he did in fact quit, that is just ridiculous. Doesn't seem like a high character kid and never did. A shame; his older brother was the exact opposite.

For once I have to agree with a BC poster (hope it's not catching) although I'm not willing to characterize the nature of the departure as "gutless" or anything else since I'm not privy to the facts and circumstances. But there has to be a "story behind the story" that may or may not come out. One thing I do know is that a consistent theme both here and over on DHD was wondering when Cody would have his breakout game. It may have actually happened in that four-goal game he had two years ago in South Bend, but it turned out to be a flash-in-the-pan. Unless the scouting reports on him when he was at Governors' were wildly exaggerated, his place in NU hockey lore will unfortunately be something along the lines of great potential never realized.

You know, the suck thing about this past weekend is now the team and its fans go into this idiotic bye week sitting on two horrible losses, games that were not as close as the score would indicate, and have nothing positive to think about until next weekend.

Even Maine, which must be sulking after getting swept at home, they get to play this weekend at home and get it out of their mind.

The way the playoffs are setup this year, there really is no worse seed then #5, even if we had not fallen to it. The idea that we have 2 weeks to prepare because we know who we are playing gets thrown out the window because the same goes for UNH. And its not like we are going to show up there and surprise with some new aggressive forecheck or trap type system.

It would have been more fair to make 11 go home, and have 10 play 5 as a play in game then the current set up.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2013-14 Season Thread II: In Witt we Trust

team plays the gms, not us. if they want to be in the ncaas.. show up. if not, go home. simple as that.

nu was picked to finish certain spot.. they over achieved.. then the tail end, not so much. up to them & coaching staff now. very tough as a fan.. sure its tougher on the kids. not privy to the locker room dynamics but gritty players rise to the occasion. if we have a good core.. pls show up. if not.. there you have it. hopefully HC has them in the right mindset because they were in anything but.. as of late.

Having the week off may not be a bad thing. Team hasn't played great overall the last month, maybe a few days away will help. Should help with the injuries, I would assume Manson will definitely be back, hopefully Benning.

5 seed is a tough seed cause 6,7,8 all get home playoff games, but you wanted to avoid that round, 1 game anything can happen. I suppose they could have had this weekend 8 play 11 and 9 play 10 then winners play saturday night for the right to be the 8 seed if they wanted to have an expanded playoffs. Either way, NU is still on the road as the #5. They had it and they gave it away.

Then you'd only have 7 teams in the quarterfinals. I agree that the situation sucks, but it's probably the only way to do it with 11 teams unless they did top 8 like in the past. Adding a 12th team next year makes it much better, in that the top 4 get byes and home ice.

Watched Matt Filipe in the Super 8 tonight. Had an unreal 1v4 SH goal that made every CM player on the ice look stupid. Great looking player.

Perhaps he can accelerate TWO years by going to summer school day and night!

It's amazing and depressing to see how quiet this thread has become after the nightmare of last weekend. AFAIK, THE SEASON IS NOT OVER YET!!! UNH still has to beat us. Their overall historical record in March has been disappointing and generates ridiculous calls for Umille's head almost every year. Their record against us at Lake Whitt has, sad to say, been outstanding. Their posters are doing the math to map a path to the NCAAs by figuring in a sweep of NU. Is it possible that their team may be a bit overconfident, while ours may be rejuvenated and desperate?
