Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

Certainly a different situation than what happened with Gaudreau, but regardless of that...can't say I'm disappointed to see Roy pick NU. Good luck.

but more similiaries than differences. Both players saw their stock rise after originally committing to a "lower" program and wanted to play elsewhere, leaving their original commit team the summer before they were supposed to appear. The main difference being that Gaudreau was released from his LOI after NU's coach left and Roy not having a LOI at all.

That is not at all why Gaudreau left. The coaching staff he wanted to play for was wiped clean. That simple. Can't blame him for leaving at all. If Cronin and co. stay, he's a Husky right now.

This is fantastic news for the Huskies though. Roy's going to be a top HE player from the get-go I think.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

A top 6 of:

Karlsson-Vermeesch-Saponari
Pimm-Roy-Ferreiro

all of a sudden is one of the best in the conference.

More importantly, Roy will have good support with another experienced center and a goal scoring RW on his line. Vrolyk, Reid and Manno or Darcy or Belonger could turn out to be a solid third line.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

Good luck with Roy and Keefe. Just remembers a rat is a rat, no matter what.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

CHN's 2012-13 roster for NU show 3 goalies, 17 forwards and 10 d-men (actually 11 b/c Eibler is still listed). With the two Roys, the roster would be at 32. Is that correct? How many are walk-ons? Anyone getting a full ride?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

The CHN roster is at least 4 months behind. Rob Dongara is transferring to UMass. Justin and Drew Daniels left the program with the idea of turning pro. Alex Tuckerman was graduated and chose to move on with his career. Jake Hoeffler walked on two years ago and has rarely seen the ice. He's not expected to be back. Steve Morra has really hustled for three years, but has produced only an assist or two and no goals. He may have a real problem making this year's team.

That takes the roster down to 26. It is a roster that looks a lot stronger, with far fewer question marks, than we had at this time a year ago

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

congrats to the huskies. may he be as wildly successful as the last recruit you got who lead the ushl in scoring!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

Thanks for nothing! FYI, your guys at BC tried (and failed) to recruit the player you refer to. He appears to have matured, is healthy again, and is having a nice pro career.

Thanks. I knew about Bitteto's and Eibler's departures, but not all the forwards. Huskies will be a bit raw on defense, but likely an improved team this year.

That's the way I see it too but let's also add a huge question mark in goal (as usual). If Rawlings ever lives up to his potential, that might be enough to offset the defensive rawness but he hasn't done that since he shutout BU 1-0 his freshman (IIRC) year. And while KRoy is getting all of the attention right now, my guess is that Cam Darcy will also prove to be an offensive force to be reckoned with.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2012 Offseason

Good get for NU. A little reverse karma for losing Gaudreau?

Well, congrats.

Now, how does that karma thing work to make it right for Brown? This is quite a setback for our program's momentum, and at a shamefully late date. Bears Coach Brendan Whittet is a great, energetic guy who is putting his heart and soul into rebuilding the program, and didn't deserve this slap.

Anyway, good luck with your season.

All I can say is that I sympathize, and agree with your characterization of the very late date at which Brown was notified of the change of heart. The circumstances are different but the end result is almost the same as what Northeastern went through last season when it had to endure key recruiting losses at a late date. It didn't feel any better for for us then than it does for you now. Unfortunately, the recruiting landscape has changed dramatically in recent years, what with players being courted at very early ages, the emergence of the legalized fraud known as "family advisors," the propensity of some NHL teams to steer young draftees away from college hockey and, of course, the pernicious influence of $$$$. It is what it is.

Hope your guys can rise above the setback.
