NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

OUCH !! BC Looked Stronger and Faster !! With Dartmouth and BU coming up for the next 2 games,
the Huskies will continue to get tested.

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Would've liked to sweep UNH but 5/6 points for the week, I'll take it. Didn't get to watch the action in Durham but Sunday's game never quite seemed in doubt to me. NU seemed to be that step ahead though UNH played pretty well. It was nice seeing a decent road contingent at Matthews joining me.

My question is can we repeat our performance from last Wednesday and get a huge leg up on bu.

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Great "TEAM" effort displayed tonite by the Huskie's!!! 5 different players with points scored against a tough BU terrier team... Relax and see what the 2nd half of the season brings my friends..... Sit back and enjoy the Huntington Hounds Return to Their Days of Glory!!!! Kudos should go out to Roby, Flint, Lundrigan & Witt for successfully bringing this team back to the top!!!

Great weekend for the Huskies with dominating wins of 8-0 and 5-1. A special callout to the NU athletics program for promoting the game and pulling in a record attendance at Mathews of over 1200 fans.

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Some thoughts from the UNH coaching staff on the game Saturday, excerpted from the Wildcat Women's Hockey blog.

"Well, as a good friend used to remind me many many years ago, ‘hockey makes you humble’. Yesterday we lived it for the second time this season.

Give credit where credit is due. Northeastern played like a national tournament team yesterday. I could point to any number of reasons why this game got away from us, but the overriding take away is ‘speed’. The Huskies are easily one of the quickest teams we’ve faced and most likely as quick as any team in the east. Hockey is a game of time and space. When your opponent is consistently outskating you to loose pucks and keeping the pressure on offensively, you are going to break down.

This isn’t a ‘new’ revelation for anyone who watches the sport. The team battled yesterday, they scrapped and competed like I knew we would. We moved the puck better as the game progressed, but NU neutralized much of our best efforts simply by skating themselves back into position. They forechecked hard and when we were successful moving it up and out of our zone, they backpressured consistently to force turnovers. Their team speed enabled them to gamble aggressively throughout the contest and still recover when we got the puck behind them.

I told the team postgame that nothing has changed. We’re playing much better hockey right now and with lots of spunk. You park that game and start a new. We don’t have the depth, foot speed or high end skill to match certain clubs right now. That’s ok. We’ll get there. It just isn’t going to magically happen overnight.

NATIONAL TOURNAMENT MUSINGS -

If you look at the pairwise this morning there is still some shuffling that will take place down the stretch, but you can pretty much take a few things to the bank."... See the blog for more!

We now control our own destiny again and are a mere 4 points away from clinching a bye for the HEA tournament. Will you be coming up for either the Beanpot or HEA tourney chippy?

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Leave it to BU to mess up the Internet feed. Paid for the live broadcast and Nothing. Disappointing.

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Congrat's to the Women Huskies....After a 13 year drought in the BeanPot NU prevailed...From the AD to the Coaches and especially the players, NU appears to be the "Real Deal." Good job ladies...Can't wait for what the remainder of regular season holds, and then on to the playoffs.....

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

I've been on the NU bandwagon for months. So happy to see you guys get a Beanpot and keep your vault up the PWR going. Would absolutely LOVE seeing you guys not just in HEAs, but in the NCAA quarters as well.

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Congrat's to Northeastern Huskies....2012 Hockey East Regular Season Champions...!!! It was quite a day indeed, what with Senior Day, the annual Allumni game, the induction of the NU All Decade Team and winning their first WHEA Championship...!!! Way to go NU...!!! It'll be fun to watch this group see how they stack up against the picks in the tourney...!!!

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Congrats to the Huskies.....a talented group, that is fun to watch, and since they're not BU or BC, enjoyable to watch! Good luck

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Since there is no What if Calculator for the Women's side, I have been trying to do this in my head.... If Dartmouth and/or Clarkson lose early in their conference tourneys and UM arse Comm Ave makes it to the WHEA title game, would that help NU to get into the National tourney w/o the autobid?

We would prefer Clarkson to stay alive since we beat them. If either Dartmouth or SLU get wept probably Dartmouth for the best case we should move up considerably as long as bu doesn't loose in the first round. If they are a TUC we move up into the possibly hosting range, though that is a long shot.

DogHouse,

Let's not get ahead of ourselves my friend. One game at a time and continue doing what got you there..... In the words of one of the Greatest Coaches of all time....

Re: NorthEastern Huskies 2011 -Improved

Looking forward to seeing the Hockey East semis on Saturday. I'm wondering if anyone knows why they chose the site in Hyannis for the semis and finals. I know where the rink is although I've never skated there or visited the Center. Seems like a reasonable choice for all the teams involved with no obvious home ice advantage.
