Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Mr. Ambrose
...Jimmy's "signing bonus" (perhaps this was determined prior to signing - I simply don't know) was Roby's own imposed sanctions. For example, He severely limited the number of paid recruit visits JM was allowed. They've had fewer than four this year. Another example has curtailed our scouting by only allowing one scout to be on the road at any given time...
This is true?? Can anyone corroborate? I can't imagine anyone--including JM--taking a D1 head coaching job under those circumstances.

Hi,I'm the new guy,it's great to be here and I look forward to learning from my fellow Huskies fans and hopefully offer some positive feedback on our team,I've only been a fan for a couple of years now but have loved them since, esp. since attending the games have given my family great bonding time and to raise them up with some great hockey,I know these are tough times but there are brighter times ahead, just remember many of us here were Bruins fans and endured despite decades of frustrations the Huskies are no different except their time is coming soon and when it does it will be sweet!

Thanks for letting me join in!

I get the joke, and I'm not that guy, just a "glass is half full" guy,a realistic optimist,a fan who will stick by the Huskies even if they finish last, and to you Sir,I wish your team the best, whoever they may be.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I'm assuming that you are talking about the illegal texting that Borek did two years ago? As I recall, UNH self-reported this violation and, in the end, it hobbled UNH's recruiting for three months last year. So I can't see where you get off on your implication that UNH swept it under the rug. It may be, as you say, that UNH (and everybody else) skirts up the edges of the recruiting no-nos, but to say that the coaching staff has been basically violating the rules for 20 years and that the AD (that would be AD's btw) looked the other way is nonsense. And, who is this board of directors you refer to? If it is who I think you are talking about, you're flat out wrong.

You think that that was the only time?, Heck that’s likely the only time tricky Dick got caught, hell if unregistered unblocked cell phones were even remotely monitored pre 911 you would have had to put all the wildcats in jail from the boosters to much of the coaching staff! 3 months of no recruiting is way fing different then giving 2 coaches a ban from the bench for a month in the middle of the season and saying we have self enforced sections. Such behavior was marginally accepted for years, and at times was likely not even considered a violation. Hell, its' not like SEC buying your parents a condo or a new Escalade with 22‘s. Wake up, I am saying if you want to compete you have to grow some big hairy balls. I mean I just look at Roby and he makes me sick, he is such not an NU guy, not a winner. Not a winner, he is a guy who is just happy to be here politically correct in every mannerism, never wanting to step on a toe or offend anyone and his coaches emulate that ridicules behavior. It’s a war, a game of battles from recruiting to the 1st puck drop in October to the final horn in March. You want mediocrity and 4 Beanpots in 60 years, stick with a guys like Madigan and Roby. However, my vision is one that fills the rafters of the old barn with banners not stale air and small tributes to marginal players and flash in the pan seasons from an era long gone-bye. I don't look at time Fern coached and say how good they were, they were ok, they won some pots and went deep in the NCAA's one time in his 20 year stint, but for much of that time they were the doormat of the ECAC and Hockey East and that was fine for a University that was academically rounding out the top 300. Now, as arguably one of the best urban universities in the nation I expect a hell of a lot more. We all do!

Gave up another shorty! I don't want to talk about it! I just sat here in my den in front of the flat screen welling up with distain for both the Eagles and the Terriers and I have a graduate degree from BU and I still hate both teams, their coaches and fans with so much distain that if hate were people I would be like China. I hate BC more though. So, at least I got that going for me.

Also afraid of this scenario. Been there, done that...it's why I can't agree with Rossi when he says that Madigan should have five years to succeed. I'd draw the line at three years, tops. I enjoy reading Rossi's remarks. They're heartfelt and meant for the betterment of NU Hockey. I have to disagree with his claim that it's not time to give Witt a start. I went to the HE website and watched the first two goals from the UNH game. Witt woulda got at least one of those:)

I took your advice and went to the video tape and have to admit you might be correct! Give Witt a start, we will never know if we have a big game goalie unless we give him a chance in a must win game and I have to say, I currently consider a must win any game against BC, BU, any Beanpot or regular season contests against anyone when your sitting tied for 7th with 3 weeks left.

So what's the word on Witt? The kid had 39 saves so he apparently didn't get bored out there. Any softies?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

would not mind seeing Witt this wknd. Set the tone for nxt season.. we have nothing to lose.

one soft goal from Rawlings.. switch him. Of course i understand he is not going to save them all. But the softies kill us.. watching highlights of our OT final from theBeanpot last year.. last night on NESN.. Millan would've had that.. Witt would've had that.. may not have changed the outcome.. who knows.. but it may have. Same goes for the OT gms versus 'Mack, Lowell.. the last UNH gm.. etc. etc. The lack of sound lateral movement kills us! Heck Witt played outstanding at Agganis last year in the time he saw in our series 'W' over the Terriers..

he (Rawlings) has now single handedly changed the team psyche in a not so positive manner on several occasions this season. And we are depleted anyway to boot..! I sincerely hope he can develop into the goaltender he expects to be (sure he has his own expectations).. but night in, night out.. you compete Mr Rawlings.. or give someone else a chance. Even if that someone else does not have the same upfront talent as you. Just the way it (should) go..

On the other hand.. look at Schelling.. her team got outshot at the opponent's rink with a 1000+ fans in her face & she gave her team a chance.. thus we now have that other Beanpot on campus. :) Raw truth.

G'luck to the team this wknd! We'll need it..

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

It might be time for the Doghouse guys to start working on a "Fire Roby" sign to unfurl at Matthews. I've heard some grumblings in the Varsity Club, a public display might just do the trick.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I think removing Roby is a great idea.

As for Rawlings, I don't think Witt did anything last night to not deserve another start. I am sick of hearing about Rawlings, he is average, he can't move, he is anverage goalie. Give Witt who was pretty highly regarded when he got here a shot. This team can still make the playoffs and then who knows. They are think up front but you never know.

Should be interesting next year with 5 guys coming in and only 1 going out. Better come in ready to fight for a spot and fight to keep it.

I'll bet a couple beers we'll have more than one "going out".

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I do believe that you could see as many as four players leave at the end of the year. If you are practicing four times a week and dressing less than that many times for the season and you aren't getting a lot of financial help, you look at the numbers coming in and re-assess things, I think.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Everyone keep saying that people will leave, who?? They are the 8th place team in HE, if they have so much talent they why are they in 8th?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

What is the ticket situation for Friday night's game? If I want to get tickets at the door can I? How much do they run?

Best guess would be, (besides McLaughlin), Quailer, Tuckerman along with his degree, Rawlings, possibly Bitetto. Mountain and Morra don't play much and are going to be seniors. I don't think that we lose Karlsson after just one year. + our annual surprise.

We've all heard rumors about Bitetto recently. He's another one whose stock has plunged this year. He could use at least one year to rebuild his rep. I hope he realizes that fact. Tuckerman looks happy again playing with McLaughlin and Vrolyk, but if he has his degree, he may want to get on with his life or pro hockey aspirations. I don't know if Q's injury has changed his plans - or Montreal's.

As for your second question: I assume it was rhetorical. We're only tied for 8th with umASS. I don't know who has the tiebreaker.
