A couple things. Even if we had a healthy Quailer and Cody in the lineup last night we still would have gotten killed last night. Talent wise we do not match up with BC. I think we may have been fooled a bit by all the one goal games played between these teams of late, BC finally was firing on all cylinders, and we paid a heavy price for it.
I do not even put the blame on Rawlings. The first one was a bad goal, but do not forget the idiotic turnover that lead to it. The 2nd one I am sort of willing to give him a pass on as again, a horrible turnover by a dman who should know better, and Rawlings was forced to go side to side which is going to open up the 5 hole every time. From there two shorthanded goals he had no chance on, and the fourth one off a dumb rebound on his part. He did not have his best game, the defense in front of him had his worst game. I was following twitter last night and the idea that clay Witt is a better option in goal is laughable.
Honestly though, i put the blame for this on the coaches. The special teams has been a disaster this year. Guys on this team do not seem to know their roles and over stretch what they are capable of. And do not get me started on the lines last night and how Pimm is being wasted with JDaniels and Dong.
All I heard about Madgian was how he is a great speaker, gets people fired up about NU and can sell the University. None of that means he can coach. I go back to the Friday game against UMASS. Start of OT, the UMASS players were all standing on the bench, excited, smelling blood in the water ready to go. Our guys were sitting, hands in their laps looking like the 2011 Red Sox minus the fried chicken and beer. They wanted to be anywhere but there. The UMASS guys all wanted to be the guy to score the game winning goal, our guys wanted to be as far from the ice as possible. IF not for the horrible goal tending of UMASS, we probably lose that game, as a good goalie pushes the puck out of the slot, a UMASS guy would have started up the ice, probably one of our dman would be out of position, its a 2 on 1 up the ice, and then a goal.
Madigan seems to be able to get these guys to play a strong first ten minutes, but after that they either shoot their load and have nothing left, or the other team scores and he cant get them going again. During the TO last night after the 4th goal did it seem to anybody here like he was getting through to them? Did not to me and i had front row balcony seats right across from the bench.
Look Madigan is probably a great guy and has more love for Northeastern then everyone on this board combined. He is the wrong guy for this job. And I do not want to read he needs to bring in "his guys." Who would that be? Untalented players he is going to mold? A good coach takes all the parts given to him and does something with it. He is taking a team that at its best should be boarder line home ice. We are boarder line making the playoffs. Yes, injuries and suspensions have played a major role, but the talent on this team has not performed up to the way it should have this year.
I wrote it on DHD before it went down last night. If Madigan truly loves this team, he will do the right thing and walk away at the end of the season before he does more damage. Two season of this in a row, and sorry people, but next years team depending on departures after this season is really going to need some serious coaching to be able to be as good as this years version, and we will be back to the Crowder days where 7th place looks good.
