Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I actually thought NU should be picked above UVM and UMass. I think Merrimack will finish above Maine and possibly UNH. I think NU is good and would have been really competitive without the early departures and de-commitments. However, to say NU should win unless the MC goalie stands on his head is a little outrageous considering MC's home record over the past few years and the pre-season prognostications of both teams.

Merrimack will be more than ready. Having said that.. Go Huskies!

Over the past two years, only four different teams have captured a win at Volpe. Northeastern is the only one of those four teams to do it twice.

I like our chances for Friday.

To much was made about the de-commitments. WAY to much. One kid MIGHT have been an impact player this year, and he is on bc now. Why do i say might? Because JG has been blessed the last two years to be surrounded by some amazing talent. First a former college NC winner and a possible soon to be first round NHL draft pick (and UVM recruit) when he played in the USHL, and now with his linemates at BC. Not saying the kid is not talented, but I am not sure he would be having the same impact at NU, a lot of it also due to style of play.

As for the dman we lost, he seemed to think quite highly of himself and the best he could land after us was Western Michigan after turning down UML. He was replaced by a kid who drafted way in front of him, thus no loss there.

NU still landed another forward who looks like a good one in Manno (a former UMASS recruit), and two other forwards who look like they will play big roles for NU over their careers here.

The NU freshmen class in the end was not decimated by the departure of JG or the dman who went to Western Michigan.

Losing Jamie on the blue line hurt, no one will deny that. Losing Brodie up front, we can totally live with as his offense can be replaced pretty easily and NU is wicked deep at forward, probably the deepest they have been the last 15 years.

Merrimack is a nice team. Great goaltending, defense willing to sacrifice it's body to block shots. I think NU is deeper up front, can roll 4 lines that have offensive threats on them, and the NU defense can handle the rugged style that Merrimack forwards want to play.

NU can handle Merrimack as long as they are not looking past them to Saturday's game.

I've seen Gaudreau on TV against North Dakota and in person against UNH. He is a difference maker. He would have helped NU big time this year. End of story.

As I said, I'm higher on NU than some people. Feel they should finish above UVM, UMass-Amherst, UMass-Lowell and Providence. I'll be disappointed if Merrimack doesn't take two of three from NU over the next few weeks.

Ludwig Karlsson will be the impact freshman this year. He is very talented.

He would if he was playing with Mullane and Whitney and had Cross and Dumoulin on the blue line. A lot depends on who you are on a line with. You are right though, he would help but not at the pace he is at with BC. Would have been nice to see him and VS together again.

Agreed. Any thoughts on KJ Tiefenworth? He de-committed from BC. Irony if he chooses NU or where's he headed possibly?

Very good player, will have something to prove. Heard NU and UVM
Will help out anywhere he goes.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

two ways and only two ways NU loses Friday night:

1) Mack goalie on fire
2) overlook the game for a sold out Matthews the next night.

Five ways and at least 5 ways that MC wins Friday night:

1) Better forwards
2) Better D-men
3) Better goalie (although Rawlings comes up big sometimes)
4) Better coach (admittedly, very small sample size for Madigan ;)
5) Home ice advantage

Other than that, I like NU's chances!

I could care less about any fireworks before 7:30. Then I hope all the fireworks are going off from the goal light above Rawlings.

As of about an hour ago, only 30 student tickets left online for saturday.

NU played tough at Lawler last year and I expect the same this year. I think it is going to be a battle and in the end be a very tight game. As much as I want to see the Warriors beat NU, I don't believe their special teams are ready and this will likely be the difference in this game. I do think that MC will win the season series, as they are not scared to beat NU at Matthews Arena, as they showed last year.

1) Nope
2) Wrong again
3) Even
4) N/A
5) Again, wrong.

I love NU chances.

I think there could be an argument for both teams as far as better forwards. No way in hell does NU have a better defense than Merrimack. Merrimack has home ice advantage and better coaching. It isn't N/A as the coaching strategies will help determine outcomes of games.

I know it pains you to admit it, but there is a reason both the media and the coaches picked Merrimack three spots ahead of Northeastern. More talent, better coaching staff, better cohesion of a team.

What's a Merrimack? Can someone locate it on the map please.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Does Merrimack (wherever it may be;)) have a broadcast available on the computer for their home games?
