Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Incredible that only 17 schools have won a hockey title at the D1 level. That means less than 30% of schools playing at the D1 level have won a national title. Talk about the ultimate "have/have not" sport.

I don't think it's that crazy. I'd bet if you considered it as a percentage of sponsoring institutions, it's more egalitarian than basketball or football.

Even more incredible was that we went 10 years (I think) without a new team in the Frozen Four, a string that was broken when ND made it in 2008, followed by Bemidji and Miami in 2009, then RIT last year. (Did I overlook a newbie in the interim between Ohio State and ND?)

Let's do this.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

They left it all out there tonight... that's what you can ask for (as a parent, or fan or coach).. great gm & effort by all the kids. We knew which team was more seasoned in every facet..

..just so proud to be a Husky fan tonight.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Personally, I'm past moral victories. I want actual victories. :(

Yeah, I know, that's a bridge too far against this BC team, especially when they get bull**** goals like their first.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well Husky fans, another year of futility and another BC victory. If any of you think this was quality hockey you’re a moron. It was a certainly an entertaining game, but that’s it. There is a big difference between the two. However, it was not really good hockey, not smart hockey, and the goal tending pretty much sucked on both ends. So here is my question for you find me a Rawlings win in a big game. Find it for me and post the score here, a big win against a top team, a ranked team not a big shut out vs. UMass Lowell, or Providence, but a top division rival a ranked team. Think about it down the stretch last season, a stone cold ******ing performance, it simply does not exist. Here is my view.

The kid is big and but not nearly great. He is a good goaltender, who stops the hard ones, but let’s in easy ones, I call them ****ters and lots of them 3 tonight. Bottom line he does not move well enough laterally when he is out of the net in front of the crease. You watch some tapes. He is vulnerable to odd angle shots but squares up like Grant Fuhr, BFD. Ever been in the goal any one of you could stop 50% of the shots you could see and square up on if you had half a brain and an ounce of athletic ability.

Tonight the NU offence gave him enough to win and he did not rise to the occasion, not by a long shot. This loss is on him completely. We will not be winning any Bean Pots with him in the net and again I stress to this community again the goal of the NU community is national championships not .500 hockey, not just lucky to be here hockey. Thanks for playing we hung with the #1 team in the land. Hell that’s what the team did for 50 years without 30 full free rides in the late 70’s through early 90’s. Also, sets up an interesting rematch Friday over at BC, but really do you think BC will play such sloppy undisciplined hockey again. I doubt it. Tonight’s game plan was not executed at all. Instead we tried to skate with a much stronger team and were outshot in the OT perhaps 7 to 0 in 8 minutes. We took ridiculous penalties as did BC and while we held our own, it’s still 23 years and counting. Now our goalie will have an opportunity to avenge this loss, but he is fast proving to be a play to the level of the competition type of goalie. He can prove me wrong by winning just one big game down the stretch by carrying the team like a great goalie has to do, every now and then. Like Bruce Racine and Brad Thiessen did on multiple occasions over their careers.

So, I say if he goes 0 for the next 6 against BU, BC and UNH. I say, what not start Witt, next year. Period! We have nothing to lose. Sorry but lots off peeps on this thing are in LALA land. Its about winning , thats all it's about. It's like NASCAR, floor it and go, if you can't, change the car , change the driver or change the crew. Just win baby...No more crying about the hockey haves and have nots. The Red Sox used to make the same cries for 75 years and then they finally figured it out. NU needs to figure it out. Hopefully they do it in our life time. many of the young players played terrific tonight and we have hope, but without a lights out gaolie, we will still be right where we have always been and that't the 3rd best college hockey team in Boston a position we have held for 75 years.

I do agree with you that tonights game is on Rawlings, BC is better than NU hands down. They had it there for them tonight. If you told me they were going to score 6 goals I would have said Yes, finally #5 is here. I was also thinking the same thing, he has no big wins. Just more disappointment. I do feel bad for McCloud and McNeely, good carrers, good players. They wante dit tonight.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Dog House was great tonight. We were so close. I'm not mad whatsoever at the team they left it all out there tonight. Talent just edged them. Rawlings...he is just too inconsistent to be called a great goalie. Kreider's goal was awful. I REALLY hope he proves me wrong come HE Tournament time but man, we haven't had a big game goalie since like Racine...and that's bad. Even Thiessen couldn't steal the games we need in the semifinals and NCAA's.

This team can do damage this March. I just hope they understand that after this performance. If you'd told me they'd match 6 goals by BC I'd have said you're nuts.

Rawlings has that masterpiece vs. BU last year, 43 save shutout but that wasn't down the stretch. I hope he proves me wrong but he is not a big game goalie.

Trade proposal: Rawlings for Sirman, Ouellette, and Sullivan

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

In spite of the negativity by RossiRules (and the "Fire Cronin" thread should be disregarded), NU has a lot to be proud of tonight. They took the number 1 team in the nation, the defending national champs, to the brink in a big game tonight. The Huskies played well, they played hard, and they left it all out there. It was an absolutely heartbreaking loss, but they battled and deserve a lot of credit for the way they played. Also, this program is headed in the right direction.

Rawlings wasn't great, but he wasn't the problem, either. This was just one of those games. The offenses were strong and active, and it was a very tough game for a goaltender. John Muse has won two national championships, but he gave up 6 tonight, 6 in the HE final last year, 7 against Yale in Worcester last year, etc. Sometimes it just ends up being one of "those" games. BC is an offensive powerhouse, and they can score goals like crazy, so I don't see this as a game to really criticize Rawlings for. Look at the goals tonight. Most of those were not going to be stopped no matter who was in net.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I've already moved on. There's still work to be done this season. There is no reason this team can't challenge to win a first round HE series. If we somehow upset B.C. this weekend we have a slim shot at home ice also. Probably won't happen but BU isn't scaring anyone right now. I can't wait to play them again at the end of the season.

Rob Dongara's short handed goal made it on Sportscenter tonight.. just an absolute beauty. It's a pity he did not get some hardware with that..

Most of the NU goals tonight.. pure hustle. They played their hearts out tonight. I applaud them once again.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

That was a hell of a game. They showed heart. Good for them. I agree that I don't want any "moral" victories. I want a real one in the pot.

I'm still upset at two goals that bc scored. One, where McLaughlin was crosschecked out of the play and bc immediately scored off it. The announcers called that a good defensive play, but even they were wondering why there was no penalty called. The other one (either Arnold or Krieder in the third) where, to me, it looked like the shot was taken as he was crossing the crease while dragging Rawlings out of position. Unless I'm wrong, but isn't that goaltender interference? That's the end of my b!+ch!ng and moaning about it. Time to move on to our games against.... CHCC.

Forget which goal was scored after that Cross hit. I admit that given how they call the game nowadays, I expected a call even though at the NHL level--that would never be called.

Kreider goal was legit. Puck was in the crease first and he just followed the rebound hard. It's not like he took Rawlings out. I think the dman had more of a negative impact on Rawlings.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Congratulations to Northeastern on a tremendous game. The Dog House should be proud.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Outstanding game by NU last night. That's what college hockey is all about. Tremendous effort by both teams.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

One of the most entertaining games I've seen in a long time, but you can't expect to win a barn burner with BC. They could have scored 10 goals on us the way they controlled the puck at times. We got a great offensive effort from our kids but you just can't go punch for punch with a team like that. Defensively I thought we looked nervous and timid most of the game. I know we have two more games with them coming up this weekend but this one is devastating.

At some point, putting up a good fight just doesn't cut it anymore. We're well past that point. That being said, I'm optimistic we can do some damage the rest of the season into the playoffs.

The first one was. After that, he did not get to much help from his defense with forwards going right around our dmen, dmen missing pucks, and lets not forget some of the saves in the third peirod, espeically the one with under 2 minutes right before MacLeod's goal to tie it up.

We gave BC a better game tonight then they got in the National Championship game last year. A bounce here or there, and we take that game. But unlike the home game against UNH earlier in the year, I do not put this one on Rawlings. I put in on a BC squad which has multiple NHL guys that unless they get into a bus accident, will win the National Championship for the third time in four years. That team is as stacked as we have seen in Hockey East in a long time.

I wasn't sure on that one. At first I thought it was but watching the replay I thought he dragged Rawlings out of position... I see where you're coming from.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Tough break for NU last night. Was really impressed with the effort and compete level brought by the Huskies. And they seemed to have prepared like this game for crazy, they were picking BC apart. I feel for the NU players and fans. BTW, the Dog Pound was fantastic last night. The place was rocking.
