Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

What does this even mean? Every kid playing wants to play professionally...

And 77 goals with 14 left to play is more than "a bit better" than 81 goals total last season. This team is top-10 in the nation in scoring.

They are an opportunistic team with a great goalie but seriously, if you're going to be the "glass half empty" guy of the thread because we aren't Boston College, at least make reasonable points.

If Providence didn't have Gillies, they wouldn't be that good, Doug Carr took Lowell to the Frozen Four, Cannata took Merrimack to the tournament. Every good team has a good goalie. Witt is clearly the most important player on the team, but this team is a lot better than thought, whether you want to accept it or not is your choice. Certainly flawed, but improved.

Huskies01 was way off about this team, so instead of saying I was wrong this is great they are winning. He has to come up with reasons why they are winning and trying to poke holes. Like I said, with friends like this who needs enemies.

I'm glad this is not looking like one of those "Beanpot or failure" campaigns. It'd be nice to win, but we've got a shot to make some serious noise past February. A lot of hockey left.

Although no Beanpot school has ever been National Champs without winning the Beanpot first. ;)

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

It's been a fun ride so far this season that's for sure. Witt has exceeded all expectations, and the offense has been great. I haven't been able to catch a game since December, so I'm looking forward to the games this weekend. Hopefully with the team climbing in the rankings there will be big crowds at Matthews this weekend.

I like being where we are now, but with the exception of the '10-'11 season, I can't recall an NU team playing great hockey down the stretch. Even in '08-'09 the team struggled down the stretch and coughed up the HE regular season lead before playing lackluster hockey in the HE tourney and getting bounced from the NCAA. I'm worried that the wheels are going to fall off any game now. That is more just a gut feeling, because based on what's been happening on the ice, this team is showing great compete level and resiliency and it shouldn't happen. Heck at 7 in the RPI this team has a real shot at an at-large bid, but without any more very highly ranked opponents left (except maybe BC in the Beanpot final and maybe some tough match-ups in the HE tourney) it will be difficult to push that ranking much higher. Here's to hoping my gut is wrong and that this awesome ride continues.

Up to #11..
ah whatever.. polls suck.. for now we do not.
:)

I try not to get caught up in stuff like this, but it really annoyed me that Ras Tirronen was the defensive player of the week over Witt. 85 of 87 against 2 top 10 teams and legit national championship contenders. Meanwhile Tirronen was 50 of 53 at Clarkson. Oh well, Witt will do it again this weekend and maybe get the award next week.

I share your pain.

Assuming they don't look past UVM this weekend, the biggest challenges would seem to be vs ND and Maine. You know ND is chafing over the fact that NU is unbeaten in its shiny new building while Maine seems to be having a resurrection of its own. And I can only hope that the Beanpot first round doesn't have Trap Game written all over it.

But I'm going to continue to enjoy the ride rather than break out in hives about whatever the rest of the season may bring.

No kidding. That Harvard team has beaten UNH this yr (besides putting up a touchdown against a weak BU squad).
Don't overlook anyone, NU. Respect your opponent. Starting with UVM this wknd.

agree with you TB, he'll have his day. heck of a season thus far!

also, looking at the Harvard match up.. they also tied Quinnipiac last week. No way we overlook them.

+1. Second time, in my eyes, he was robbed of that honor

Listening to his post-game press conference at Fenway, this is the mindset Jimmy seems to be taking, and I love it. He isn't thinking about Games in March, or February, or even Notre Dame yet. He's focused on who is right in front of him, and I'm sure the players are using that mentality too. It's the right one to have. Here's to a fun ride the rest of the season!

Would be great to think we can beat UVM 3 times..
Witt was outstanding that last gm we won & Catamounts skated circles around us for parts of 2nd & 3rd period. We just happened to capitalize on our odd man rushes. I see a split. Would love to get both gms.. least Witt gives us that chance wknd in, wknd out. Go NU.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I guess the Friday gm is more important since its listed as Hockey East matchup.. or was it the Saturday gm? One of the wknd gms isn't a league gm.. So the HE gm of the doubleheader is the more important 'W'. The OOC is just as important I guess. UVMs gonna come out strong, Fri. Let's get the pts!
go Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Opinions: who will Madigan start.Friday-Saturday? both games Witt? or a split with Roy/Mountain?
