Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Northeastern has lost a 2014 recruit to Major Junior- Philippe Gadoury. Signed with Halifax. Shame, I thought he could have been like Hedges, sneaky pickup to add some offensive punch. Had a 25/30/55 line in the CCHL

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Got to talk with one of the rink managers today. He said he hasn't seen a team practice as hard as this one in a long time. Seemed like they were were really working hard this week. They were also doing ice maintenance tonight from about 11 to 3am for the game tomorrow night. Apparently the weather thinned out the sheet during the week and it needs to be flooded again. Hopefully everything is good to go and it has time to harden up. Anticipating a great game, hope it's packed and the DogHouse is rockin'.

That is a shame, although if Cotton, Stevens and Rosenthal all come we should still be pretty solid when it comes to forwards. This would be a bigger loss if it was Cockerill, Owens or Couturier on D.

I'm expecting either Owens or Cockerill to supplant Darou in the lineup next year. Owens got a lot of praise upon committing, hopefully he lives up to it.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

NU got some nice goals tonight but came out flat. And sloppy. I was very impressed with Vermont. Witt clearly kept NU in the game. I thought there would have been more people there. Wasn't a pretty win but I'll take the two points any way you can get them.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

It wasn't pretty but it's 2 points. Outshot 3 to 1 the Huskies are carried to victory by Clay. NU had a 3 to 0 lead late in the 3rd before a very empty Matthews as I am not sure all students are even back yet. The shot totals don't really bother me as NU despite the lopsided totals had the better chances. However VT controlled the play thru the neutral zone and to my eye looked better than NU in aspects of the game except perhaps goaltending for all but 45 of the 60 minutes. NU's play was spotty and undisciplined as they took 7 penalties including a major which cost them a goal on a fluke school boy play off the glass that hit Witt in the back of the helmet and bounced in. However, I will take a 4 and 0 January and 8 HE points this month good for 2nd place in the HE standings, but they are going to have to play much better to beat BC, win a Beanpot and advance in the NCAA tournament assuming they get there. All and all if they win tomorrow we are talking 17 points in HE and are well on our way to a 20 win season, who knew!

I saw Stevens last week in Marlboro...very unremarkable performance from him and the entire team!

Uninspired effort tonight.. save goaltending of course.
C'mon NU.. let's play better tomorrow, regardless of score..

UVM played great. They'll surprise a team come playoff time.

Get your act together, Huskies.. this is not gonna fly come early Feb.. that's certain. Let's go!

Tonight's game is non-conference so it will not count towards their Hockey Easy record. It will, however, as it pertains to their overall record and the ever important Pairwise.

Tomorrow is a non conference game...

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Glad we got the win but they played like garbage for two periods. Gotta play a much less sloppy game tomorrow night. They can play much better than that.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I like the fact that Madigan made it pretty clear that he was unhappy with how they played and specifically with the lack of discipline at the end. I always admired that about Cro, he was never satisfied with a win if they didn't play up to what he thought they were capable of. Another big one tonight for PWR reasons. Lets go Dogs.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I missed the game tonight, as my son had a varsity game in Natick, and glad I did as from looking at the box score it looks rather lop sided, at least they won the conference game on Friday night. I was with a lot of BC Dads, lots of Triple Eagles and some prior hockey players tonight and they had been at the Maine game and mentioned that they really look unstoppable I mentioned to them that NU was having a good year form an NU perspective considering they were picked last, when they informed me of something I had forgotten, what's a Husky Hockey Players favorite dance? The February Slide! Even I laughed. Not sure what happened in the 3rd tonight but it seems Witt's luck ran out. I assume we played poorly much like Friday when we kinda got lucky! Hopefully they can fix it before the 1st Monday in February.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I'm okay with the split since we got the HEA game. Still T-6th in the pairwise so we are still in great shape. Need to split vs. Notre Dame and then ideally take 3 of 4 from UMass/BU and we are cookin'.

This is my take too. It was a bad weekend, but this team has shown they can bounce back. Witt's human, who knew?! UVM is a gritty team, played us hard all three games. Notre Dame will be a huge weekend, both in terms of points and as a gauge as to how this team can bounce back and play another good opponent.
