Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I was relegated to the radio for this game (which was called fantastically by WRBB I might add), so I cannot attest to how things actually looked..Happy with the result nonetheless. Seemed like the referees were very whistle happy, seemed like only 4-5 minutes at a time passed before another penalty was called. Only 1 goal is a little concerning, hopefully they can bring the firepower tomorrow. Have to give Witt some serious credit again, that man is clearly our answer in net. The PK also gets some props from me, 6 for 7, well done.

Anyone have the chance to watch the stream and can comment on how things looked?

Agreed, great job on the radio call, those guys are the bomb,as far as the stream goes,it was terrible from where I was, again GoNUxstream is the standard I measure everything else by.

The Championship game with ND is supposed to be handled by NBC Sports Live extra which is the internet center of NBCSN,the have alot of ND stuff and according to their site, they will have the game online free, hopefully that will be the case here's the link:

P.S. it looks like you will have to cut and paste the link above, for some reason it doesn't translate well

Congratulations to the Huskies on a hard fought victory over Notre Dame!! I tried to watch the game on the NBC Sports live feed but it would freeze ever few seconds and the commentating was too biased to handle. PP still needs to stop giving up SHGs, but I'm beginning to feel confident in our goaltending and the defense is starting to actually play defense. This team is leaps and bounds better than anyone expected and it looks like Madigan's recruiting of Hedges was well worth it. Big test coming up next week with Providence coming to town. Good luck and keep up the hard work!!

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I listened and from what I heard it was 2 games. the 1st 1.5 periods dominated by the Irish, then a breakaway goal and the tables were turned, as it sounded like the Hounds really took it to ND for the last 30 minutes and gutted out a Husky win against the #10 team in the land. Keep it up we get some points vs.PC next week and things could get very interesting indeed. If you had told me we could have 8 wins before Dec 1st, I would have said you were nuts. The difference has been Witt over the past 2 weeks, kid is standing on his head. Keep it up Huskies. We should all enjoy it while we can.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

What another great win! Hedges, even apart from the gamewinner has been a pleasant surprise, his size not being a liabilty and his speed and hands a great asset,ND has a tremendous program just like BC and I greatly admire them, but listening to ND announcers you would think it was the end of the world (in a bad way),teams and perhaps some of their fans, though they are great fans must have a very difficult team with defeat,I suppose having some difficult seasons at NU has been valuable in some ways, and when even a seemingly small victory comes along the happiness from is magnified that much more.all that being said,a great victory against a very good Notre Dame team,on to a real tough test against Providence/Gillies-#GoNU

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Congrats to the team on a stellar come-from-behind win! Only thing that could have made yesterday sweeter was if we got 2 points from win W as well. Victories in 4 games in a row too! Fantastic to see after that slow 1-5 stretch. I honestly thought Hedges got robbed of the MVP, the kid had 2 game-winning goals, what else do you have to do? Clay Witt continues to be stellar, the PP needs to wake up, 1 for 8 is not going to cut it. I also will give JM some kudos for the timing of his timeout. I feel like that's when the momentum for ND stopped and things started to roll our way. I'm not sure what was said during that timeout but things changed. So well done Coach.

PC this week, got to see them play QU last week in person as well. I think we can skate with them for sure. Should be a good test for a team riding high, looking forward to it.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Well, we have reached last season's win total with over half the schedule left to go (9-5-1). Also, this year's freshman class, as many of us who weren't glass completely empty said at the beginning of the season (granted, people had reason to be), is proving to be a very productive one. Szmatula has 17 points, Hedges has 13, Aston-Reese has 10. Roy is doing his thing and Manson leads the team with a +11, and that is not a coincidence. He has been fantastic this year. Witt, again, many of us knew he was a very good goaltender but he has exceeded all expectations. Stopping 94% of the pucks going towards him, 6th in the nation.

This weekend is going to be a very big test against PC. Don't see a win but it'd be nice to keep it close.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Looks like NU is the HEA Team of the Week and Clay Witt is the HEA Defensive Player of the Week. And for good measure, the team is back in the USCHO Top Twenty.

Still a long way go but it's nice to see the erstwhile prophets of doom suddenly scrambling for excuses.

Thinking back to all the negativity surrounding this team coming into the year, especially when polls came out, this is my favorite line that I've read recently, from today's HE column: "Well, Northeastern ain’t finishing in last place. No way, no how." People are finally realizing that this team is a force to be reckoned with and one not to be taken lightly. It's fantastic to see.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

This is my first post, I have been reading these threads for a couple of years. I was hopeful coming into this year and it looks like my hopes so far were correct. I was just wondering what Rossi and NU Speed Racer think. They were extremely negative all last season about the players coming in and the coach. Team is off to a good start, has been ranked a couple of times this year, Freshman look good, goal tending looks good. Hopefully this can continue.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I think Madigan being able to get the Szmatula family to chg their minds & have the kid stay at NU was a good start. Of course some of the other freshmen have been outstanding as well. The ability to have multiple lines that can get the puck to the net has been good thus far. I had really hoped (after Gaudreau).. that Madigan could/ should have kept Gillies & let Rawlings know the stark truth about his abilities. That one was a big miss! Today we'd be in better than good shape although Witt has been outstanding so I don't want to take anything away from him.

Oh well.. we'll get to see Gillies tomorrow & hopefully our team can get a few quality shots by him. The pressure is on the Friars & they definitely deserve their ranking thus far.
Go Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Can't say anything to understate how big tonight is. This game can show that we are major players in Hockey East this year, it is a statement game for NU. Very excited to watch tonight.

Go NU

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Win or lose.. can someone from our hockey operations pls let the refs/ HE officials know 'in advance' that its teddy bear/ toss a bear night.. (all for good cause), so we do not get a penalty/ delay of gm once again. We don't need that against a quality opponent. We give away enough goals on shorties as is..!

Thank you. :) Go NU!

Isn't it supposed to be between the first and second period?

Pressure is on PC? A first place team in Hockey East...I disagree there!

Does anyone here know this answer for sure? The first press release had it after the first goal, the next had it during the first intermission. Anyone know with certainty which one it is?
