Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

there are dinosaurs that run our hockey program.. (behind the scenes).. and that is why the program is in the shape that it is. think of it as an old company's 'legacy systems'.. yup.. from the concessions to the retail & everything in between.. we're full of that down on St Botolph st.

There's a lively discussion about this going on over at DHD. From what I can pick up (and from what I've been told by others), the "dinosaurs" had nothing to do with this and were as surprised as anyone when it happened. To the contrary, there are hints that this move might be the "brain child" (I would say brain fart) of some of the young turks on the Athletic Dept. staff.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I'm not a member at DHD, but I sure would like to know more about what happened if you can pass along the info. As for some younger athletic staff coming up with this "re-configuration" (i'll be polite), doing renovations like that surely would have to get the go ahead by higher-ups, probably Peter Roby and others above him. Wonder if they pulled a permit for the construction. Might even have to go through the landmarks commission as its likely a historic building.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Moving on to Holy Cross @ NU this Saturday.. Crusaders played very well on the road last wknd, going down by a goal 3-2 at BU. I expect them to come out strong once again. They have a good defensive core. Take penalties like last wknd & we are assured our first 'L'. Not sure if i'll make this gm but will try. G'luck Huskies! :)

I think this will be a very good challenge for the team, and a chance to see where there are as a cohesive unit. I love how our schedule gets progressively harder leading up to HE games. Hopefully the boys and coaches take advantage of that opportunity to grow each week for when the game really matter.

I agree, if we take penalties like we did versus UAH we can pretty much guarantee a loss. I'm expecting Witt and Mountain to start this weekend, with my guess being Mountain tomorrow. Does anyone know if Holy Cross has a stream for the game?

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Thank you, very much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing these two in action live on Saturday

8 bucks to watch online, 10 bucks to watch in person. Eh, I only battle Friday rush hour traffic for conference games; hopefully the feed isn't awful but I don't have high expectations.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I meant to ask this after last weekend but does anyone have any news on Mike Gunn? Is he injured? I was surprised to not see him against UAH

Good question. Nobody seems to know for sure. Even my friends over at NSA have come up empty.

Same as Split-N, I have not heard/seen anything conclusive. The Mad Doghouse blog put out the idea that it could be injury but also possibly disciplinary

I understand that he tweaked an old injury. Coaches are not taking any chances with it, but if all goes well, we'll see him again in November.

Disciplinary problem? I doubt it!

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Predictions for the weekend? I think a split is likely. 3-2 loss tonight, 4-2 victory tomorrow

Nathan is back this weekend, lined up with Szmatula and Cody. Derick is in net tonight, I'm surprised

3-1 win out in Worcester tonight. Sounded like a solid win, some big saves from Roy. Other than C Ferriero getting booked for 20 min (10 min misconduct and game misconduct, not sure what for) penalties seemed to be cut down from last weekend. Looking forward Saturday's match up.

Cody got hit in the corner and went down hard, getting up gingerly after awhile. The official gave the Holy Cross player a two minute penalty which Cody thought should have been a major and shouted an expletive at the ref which earned him the unsportsmanlike conduct.

It was a cheap hit no doubt; but Cody needs to try keep his cool. Easier said than done I guess, but he is part of the upperclassmen core. Only goal we gave up tonight was on the 5x3.. more proof that penalties will cost us anywhere. We played disciplined, except for parts of the 3rd. After HC closed in with 2-1.. Roy's snipe was a beauty & much needed! I gotta work so will prob miss the Sat gm. HC plays well on the road. Gluck Huskies!
