Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

So, I watched the highlights from the game on HE online. Couldn't tell if Dalhousie was just bad or whether our guys looked decent. Whats the consensus?

I'd say the latter. Dalhousie didn't play great but we didn't play down to their level. We flat-out overran them. The team looked different, looked more aggressive and more refined in all parts of the game. It's just one guy's opinion, but I thought we looked real solid.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I would agree with NU_Husky, and would add that Dalhousie was definitely playing an aggressive style of hockey Saturday night, which only picked up when they started to get frustrated being down 2-0, 3-0, etc. I personally was impressed with the ability for a number of the new guys to see the ice very well, execute accurate passes to players around the crease, and sustain intensity beyond the 1st, which was obviously a huge factor last year.

I would also agree with the previous two posters, I was pleasantly surprised by the play of the Huskies. I thought all the freshmen looked terrific, especially Szmatula. He seemed to be all over the ice, playing on the first line as well as the PP and PK units. Nathan Ferriero also impressed me with his willingness to pass the puck, unlike his brother, and seemed to be tough battling in the corners. Stevens has great size but can also stickhandle and skate pretty well. Hedges, who Madigan is very high on, is Mudryk size but can actually shoot and score. Overall, I am a lot more optimistic than I was before, but then again, I was also optimistic last year after we had beaten Merrimack and BC in the first two games of the season.

I can't remember where I saw this, but I recall seeing something that quoted Cody as saying he thought Nathan could be the best player of the three brothers when he's done. Nathan definitely looked as though he belonged (also showed he had a Ferriero brain...hope JM gets that sorted out). A line of Cody/Szmatula/Nathan could be deadly and very fun to watch- all three can shoot well, all three can pass well, and all three can play physical. Kinda hoping JM keeps those three together. I honestly think we could have three solid forward lines this year.

Northeastern @ Boston College Nov 1 will be on NBC Sports Network. Hope we keep it competitive...

Starting time 8 p.m., not 7 p.m. as listed on the schedule. Hopefully, they get through UAH, HC, and the Larries in good form and go into Conte under a full head of steam.

This scheduling is interesting as each weak we get a stronger opponent until we arrive at BC on 11/1. The series at St. Lawrence the prior weekend should be a lot more challenging than STL's 9th ranking in the not-so-EZAC is as ridiculous as our 11th place ranking in HEA. They have lots of firepower, beginning with the Carey brothers. BTW St.Lawrence offers free HD broadcast of their home games - in case you prefer not to make the drive and to start winter early

Game 1 ALCS is going to hurt attendance Sat night. I was planning all along at being there. Now 50-50

Any video that pairs NU hockey with the Dropkick Murphys gets a double thumbs-up from me! Nicely done.

Finally gameday! Sounds like Witt has the nod for today, I'm interested to see how JM manages his plethora of skaters this two games
