Close game away..not thinking they will do much in the HE tourney but they could win 12 or 13 games which is way better than I expected. I think Quentin gets the pipes from here on in. However looking at additions and subtractions based on purely graduation and commits I don't really think we improve a ton but are a middle of the pack wild card. The portal and NIL only hurt a HE back water like NU..so it's going to be a tough road and the fact that the back side of Matthews is sinking into the South End mud is not helping us.
 
Per JK, Whitehead gets the start, at least on Friday.

Except for one juicy rebound that Lowell potted for the GWG, Sigurdson looked fairly good over the weekend so wondering if we might see a rotation for the rest of the year. BTW, that one Lowell goal should have been offset if the offense could only score consistently.

Unfortunately the top line is on a bit of a dry streak. In the last five games Lund only has 1 assist, Hryckowian has 1 goal, Williams has 2 goals in the lost to Harvard.

Rough for all your ppg players to fall apart when you have no depth.

Nice for Connor to step up in the first game and for erdman to get his first.
 
congrats to the northeastern huskies on the birth of your brand new power play. please dont murder it again.

WOW! Finally, some salve applied to a so-far painful season. But credit where it's due: Solid game from Whitehead (finally) especially in the early going; some quality snipes (even on the PP) and absolutely smothering defense, especially in the third period.

Probable sellout at Matthews on Saturday. Hoping Friday night was a prelude to nice things to come NU's way down the stretch.
 
Beating bu 5-1 on their own ice, while listening to the mumblings of Bernie Corbett, their forever play-by-play guy, was pure delight. It was as though the teams had exchanged uniforms. Enough said.
 
No loss ever feels good but a few are less painful than others, and last night's is one of them. Some Big Boy saves by Cameron Whitehead for starters; signs of life on both special teams; effective team defense throughout; and finally, some sustained o-zone time. OTOH, the DRritz slash with the extra attacker on was flat out inexcusable. All of that being said, this team could possibly be the one nobody wants to play in post-season but it's still an uphill slog, especially with some probable suspensions looming for next weekend.

Related observation: I'm an unabashed and consistent supporter of on-ice officials and know how difficult those jobs are, especially at the higher levels. But I've come to cringe when I see Steven Rouillard in anyone's game. Master of the ticky-tack; not so much of the flagrant and obvious, IMHO.
 
It's like a tale of two teams. However I agree with Split N. The team could be a spoiler. It's going to be a rough few years..until that new rink is built.

UConn broadcast pointing out that Northeastern has the same amount of power play goals as UConn has shorthanded goals- both 9 each. war crimes i tell you.... WAR CRIMES
 
Well we were only a goal down with 5 mins left. However we came out way too slow and Whitehead is the Swayman of Hockey East. My original production of 9 wins is likely only going to be off by 2 or 3. The program is in a bit of a freefall and I really think a coaching change needs to happen but won't. Given the uncertainty of the old barn, NIL and the portal revolving door, I just don't see anybody good wanting to play for our Hounds in the near future. There are simply way too many other programs that are just as good for the kinds of kids we traditionally recruit. We may steal a kid who wants to play in HE but today he might smartly choose UConn or UMass over us and that kind of narrative has happened rather quickly.

I went, I wonder why I did. The worst beat down I can remember in 20 years easily since Greg's teams. Totally embarrassed. 13 shots taken. They gave up 7 on 29 shots. The D was lost and they were totally outclassed. See ya in October. They aren't winning another game. I don't see one positive or anything they could possibly build on outside of 2 or 3 players on the top line...they have no depth.
 
I went also. The game was tough to take but with no suspense as to the outcome, I enjoyed my conversations with my STH neighbors. The one question we all would love to see addressed: what is the plan for the Arena? There has to be news soon?

Last I heard - Matthews still in use til roughly Dec 2025. Denver is playing here in Oct/Nov for one game. That was made public when we were out there. Deconstruction of arena would be shortly thereafter. Play/practice at multiple local facilities. What does that mean? One could easily infer WBA (which i think), and a mix of Conte, Warrior. Then maybe Harvard, Bentley, Merrimack as safety valves. To be clear, i'm not saying i KNOW those locations for certain, but really, what makes sense? The only local Univ with two arenas is BU. We accommodated BC when they were building their new rink, so its not a stretch to think they would return the favor. Just logically, they will probably need consistent access to a practice facility, and then for games request access to the next closest available facility to play in (if BU/BC are booked), then Harvard, then the burbs. I read (makes sense) that they will participate in tournaments next few years, play OOC double headers, then return those games when arena is complete. I think the down time (wrecking ball to puck drop) is going to be longer than originally anticipated. Probably will be good to start a page for arena discussion, as the next few years may be a little less exciting.
 
Recruiting from preps and juniors is going to be a tough sell, to say the least. Same for attracting quality players through the portal. It's going to be a long, painful slog but hopefully a return to better times when the puck finally drops at the new place. BTW, still not happy that the new building won't include practice rink. (A drag on recruiting, IMO.)

Or they get shoved in the Watertown MDC where Bentley played for a dozen years. Lol. At least back then I could grab an Italian cold cut sub at Russo's . No I agree I think they end up at BU Walter Brown or BC. BU also played at the Bright Center while Walter Brown was being completed and Suffolk Men's Div 3 hockey played at Walter Brown for many recent seasons.
 
Further, BC has 4 teams that play at Conte (M/W/Hockey/Hoops). BU has one team playing at WBA. We need a place for two teams to play. Would it be a stretch to think our men play at WBA/Bright, and our women play at Warrior/WBA/Bright? We'll probably get an occasional game at Conte (vs BU maybe), Agganis (vs BC/higher profile games). Guessing our men's hoops will be given a waiver to play at Cabot for a few years.

How many games did they play at Matthews? Because they played most of them at Walter Brown. They paid me to run the message board during that time.

Would you think Warrior Ice Arena or the Skating Club of Boston's rink (which is super nice) might be options?
