Northeastern 2022-23: Unfinished Business - Great Expectations

I got an email from the "Northeastern Spirit Shop" leveraging the Beanpot to hawk hockey jerseys. But they look cheap, aren't the current design, black and white only. No reds. And grossly overpriced.

yeah these aren’t a great buy. I’m not sure why they don’t sell the good stuff anymore but I don’t think they’ve had good replicas since they switched from the demon husky

We are in an NCAA tournament spot with that win. IF we keep playing like we are, we'll make it.

Realistically, we are not in at the moment. 15 is the lowest a team can be to have a chance to be in. That allows a spot for Atlantic Hockey. Next is if a team wins the tournament but is not already in the top 16. A Hockey East Tournament Win not withstanding, finishing 13th in the PWR is the target. Finishing 14th may do it, but with some hand wringing on the final days of the other conf tourneys.

Huskies best not finish in top 12 and risk facing Atlantic Hockey auto-seed in a regional.

Notwithstanding the late game heroics, that was 50 minutes of ugly. If they play like that on Monday, the Beanpot crosses the river to Cambridge.

And even though it worked for NU last night, I still loath and despise shootouts.

They looked disinterested (other than Levi) for the first 50 minutes. Kept waiting for them to get into the game and it only really happened because Max Crozier took an incredibly dumb major. Good on them to come back and ultimately get the extra shootout point but still disheartening that they weren't ready to play. I'd get it if they were comfortably in the tournament or had no chance at the tournament and were looking ahead to Monday but every game now is crucial for their at-large hopes. It's so tight that they moved down to 20 in the PWR with the "tie" but it looks like they'd move up to 14 with a win Monday. Stating the obvious, but massive game for multiple reasons.

They lucked backed into this one. Sure we saw some extra fire in the last ten. But the sequence of events was so lucky. First goal was a lucky knuckle ball off a stick. The major gave them some confidence to get back in it. Rebound came right to mcdonoughs stick. And choupanis second goal luckily hit off his skate and in. I usually believe you make your own luck, and some of the positioning got them there, but still.

meanwhile levi still hasn’t figured out how to play the puck. Most of the time he just rips it around the boards straight to an opposing player and now another easy give away goal. I initially liked his style of play behind the net but really wish he would exercise some better judgment about when to leave the net and what to do with the puck when he does leave the net.

I really think they’ll turn it on and get a full game against Harvard but if they don’t our turnover machine is going to pump up Harvard’s scoring stats for sure

Agree with Levi's puck play...especially since he stops almost everything when he's in the net! I wonder if last night part of it was he was rightfully frustrated by how they were playing in front of him and he was trying to make anything happen that he could. Funny how we've had some very good goalies (Thiessen, Primeau, Levi) and they all haven't been great playing the puck.

Puck Play by goalies is something i pay a little extra attention to during games. Rare is the goalie that makes the situation better for his team by handling the puck. Even the simple act of settling the puck down for his defenseman often creates a lost split second that allows the forechecker to close on the D faster than if the goalie had just let the puck be. Firing the puck around the boards or up the ice isn't easy as it looks either. I'd rather that the goalie freeze the puck for a faceoff where everyone is set in position and ready than make a risky play.

It is amazing to see this is still possible after all of the ups and downs this season, or more accurately, downs and ups, including a few fortuitous bounces.......just for fun i torture myself by changing the PWR game results and put in "W"s where they really should have been during December...........sigh.

I unfortunately could not score some last minute cheap seats but am excited regardless.

It’s be great to take some revenge following a challenging New Year’s Day game.

Go huskies!

Removed Double post.

I’m not going to speculate final score on this one but I will speculate the for the spread on blocked shots is 12

4 out of 5 is awesome but obviously disappointing to end it in a shootout. Thought it was a very even game, that could have went either way. If they play like they did these last two Mondays going forward they still have a lot to play for and will be a tough out in March

Biggest development for me has been the development of the freshmen defensemen. Hunter McDonald is awesome and Dorrington and Borgesi are coming on as well. Thought Colangelo was really good tonight, still definitely need more from Jack Hughes.

Well I had lodge 9 row 9 seats 1 thru 4. My best tix ever for a beanpot final and I've seen 14 now. Great win and they can play from behind with confidence, they still can win HE regular season title and HE championship which didn't look possible a few weeks ago. I'm ok with the shoot out game as I believe this format guarantees that the city isn't on the hook for overtime to T and public transport workers as it was in that double OT thriller that ended at 1am a few years back, where Marty gave the green light to keep the commuter rails and T open causing 400k in OT. It was a tight game and NU isn t going to kill you with offence. Tonight they played a very good Crimson team and found a way. Need this game against VT this weekend. Nice job Huskies

The secret weapon was the Demon Husky on the red jerseys. No other rational explanation.

As epic a game as this was, it's still a tie PWR-wise and with BU tanking to BC, NU stays where it was coming into the night at #15. The good side of the bubble but still the bubble. The schedule should favor them coming down the stretch with one at last-place Vermont; two with 10th place Flagship; and two with 5th place Lowell. So really, NU controls its own destiny unless there's a repeat of what happened in Providence last weekend.

But let's not worry about that until the time comes. Today is a day to bask in the glory of a fourth Beanpot in five years. Yes, it's OK to feel good.
