Northeastern 2022-23: Unfinished Business - Great Expectations

A PWR crusher indeed! IIRC, NU went 2-6-2 vs largely soft (Harvard excepted) OOC opponents, which is what has buried them. If they were 6-2-2 instead, they'd be sitting pretty in both the PWR and national polls. Someone smarter than me tweeted earlier today that if they had just beaten Bentley, they'd be PWR 17 right now. Climbing out of the PWR hole they dug for themselves seems impossible but four straight against ranked teams is a start. Winning the Beanpot would help. A lot.

Winning the HEA regular season championship is nice but all it gets you is a piece of hardware and I'm sure the players know that.

Just figured I'd throw this out there, but does anyone have an extra ticket they wouldn't mind parting with for the BC vs NU game on Tuesday (1/31) at Matthews? Thanks

Omg, watching from the barn tonight, they look horrible, slow, lost and BC isn't good. They are tied but it's not close. If not for Levi they would be losing by 5 goals. I can't say they are playing marginally well in any phase. At this stage of the season it's a disaster. It will take a miracle to beat BU. They may win bcuz of Levi, but it's not pretty.

Mostly agree with Rossi. Watching on ESPN+ I thought they were going to get run out of the building in the second period. NU seemed to have the edge in the third but didn't dominate by any means. But credit where it's due to the PK and Levi once again doing Levi things.

2nd period was Rough! But they got it done. Levi has been looking great.

Williams has really turned into a great player to watch. Forces a lot of turnovers with great anticipation

Its not pretty but team defense and Levi can win games. The PK killed the two early penalties and Gauthier hit the post. The offense found two goals and that was enough.
Williams is coming on. Hunter McDonald is not playing like a freshman. The 6 best defensemen are healthy again. There are a couple of more players that could find the scoresheet more often but the effort is there. Let's see what Friday night brings.

...Its not pretty but team defense and Levi can win games...

I think that quote perfectly captures what appears to be Jerry Keefe's coaching philosophy: Win from the goal on out. A 1-0 or 2-1 win is no different than a 10-0 or 12-1 win. So, let's not expect many offensive fireworks from this crew. It's all about protecting the house.

The downside of that is there's not much margin for error, especially when an opposing goalie has a great night, as BC's Benson had last night.

Let's see if we can actually score against bu at the Garden this time. Excited for Levi to finally play a Beanpot. Lots to improve on but they've put themselves in a position in both the HE standings and PWR to make something of this season which didn't look like the case a month ago.

To me, they need a lot more from 27 and 16 if they're going to beat a team like bu in a big game. Especially from 27. Going into the season I thought they were going to basically have 2 first lines and that line has been outplayed most nights.

Amazing first period. But this power play is abysmal. UConn giving us all the opportunities and we can’t make anything come close to happening

This loss is a bit more disappointing than some others because the team was up 2-0 and had chances to put the game away. But hey, didn't we do the same thing to UConn in their new rink? Every team in the league this year is going to stub their toe when you don't expect them to, with the possible exception of BU. The lack of a defenseman that can do things with the puck and run a Power Play hurts a lot. If you could add anything to this team that would be my first choice. Still in second place. On to Monday.

Gotta bring some hype in here, tough after a debilitating weekend loss, but at least the first period showed glimpses of what this team can do.

I think this game might be a track meet we can’t win, but hopefully levi puts the team on his back and we get some opportunistic goals and maybe 1 or 2 on an overdue power play. It’ll need a healthy change up though or BU will have too good a read on the nothingness that is our pp. I will be thankful if we don’t give up a shorty.

I’m expecting bad penalties on both sides, but as long as it’s not 60 minutes of bad passing (on both teams) and pure misery like last years final I will be a happy viewer

Third period they were smoked but the first two periods they skated toe to toe with BU. Now the first ever championship against Harvard.

A la the NFL, it's a week to week league. They probably forgot about the UConn loss by Monday and were ready to go.

70 years and we finally have a Harvard NU final..I was disappointed with the last few seconds OT loss v CT with 3 points lost in a HE fight, but I'll take a beanpot final over it. They were gassed in the 3rd..but if Levi can see the puck and the D positions so he's not on a lateral tightrope he's pretty well near dead balls perfect when facing direct shots he can track early..so who knows. The D really did a great job slowing a very good BU offence down. It was like a game plan for BU and they stuck to the plan. Im fairly certain they aren't more talented, but this was a beautiful team effort. Should help the pairwise too. Nice job Huskies. I really hate how the announcers are a bit pro BC. I'm glad they lost. Any night NU wins is a good night and a great night is when BU and BC are both playing in the consolation..I guess that happens only once or twice a century.

Freshmen defensemen really came of age tonight. I thought Dorrington, McDonald and Borgesi were all really good. Levi was obviously unreal. Good team win.

One gripe...can we dress Outzen over Riley? Just doesn't bring much to the table

Well, it looks like BU can stub their toe, too. I can't remember a more complete game this season. The poise in their own end was excellent. Not too many thoughtless plays with the puck. I think they'll be ready for Harvard this time. They'll have to be ready for a Providence team that needs a win Friday night. I read that Leaman healthy scratched Moynihan and another player in their last game.

Just read that Northeastern blocked 21 shots last night. That's impressive and shows the commitment the team had to win that game. Hats off. The defense really made it easy on Levi to see pucks and held BU to the outside all night long. NU wanted it more.
