Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Per Jeff Cox

"Northeastern commits ‘03 LD Michael Bevilacqua of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 16U. Big, strong, complete D with pro upside. Huge get for the Huskies."

(thank you Jeff & NU recruiting). Go Huskies :)

Will publish my post on him tomorrow probably, didn't want to put it out today with football being on everyone's mind, including my own :D

nice write up NU Husky.. best to him & to our newest..
(per Jeff Cox), from earlier today

Northeastern commits Salisbury forward Justin Hryckowian. Huskies beat out a few other Hockey East schools for ‘01 from Quebec. Skilled goal scorer with very good hands.

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Huskies start the season at 15 in the preseason USCHO poll

A little higher than I was expecting after losing what we lost, but hopefully that shows we're starting to make a name for ourselves nationally. For me, getting home ice in the HEA playoffs and being enough on the bubble to maniacally research PWR possibilities in February would be a successful season. I don't think we're going to score enough to be a tournament team, but we'll be competitive enough that I won't be surprised by anyone we beat. That late October-early November stretch of 3 games against SCSU and then BU should tell us a lot.

no predictions here.. i think NU Husky did a nice job with his write up. Will say.. good goaltending can take a team far. Subpar & its the opposite.
I am however, finally.. looking forward to seeing Liam Pecararo skate @ NU. I hear he is very good. Would have liked to have seen him on the line with Gaudette & Sikura.. but better late than never. Go Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

I actually think they'll be fine, assuming the defense and goaltending live up to expectations. There's just too much offensive potential, even without the Big Three, to just concede the first three spots. If guys like Filipe, Solow and Hawkins can live up to their potential, if Plevy's experience can contribute, and if the frosh turn out to be anything like their reputations, the goals will be there.

Oh, and reliable sources report a Liam Pecararo sighting at Monday's golf tournament.

The new look on the players, sans the 35th anniversary Hockey East patch that will go on the right upper chest

Meh. A boring, minimalist look. Nothing inspiring. IMO, the unis they've had in recent years were clearly superior--especially the blacks.

And I just don't get what's so special about a 35th anniversary that it deserves a commemorative sweater patch. For anniversaries like 25th and 50th, sure. Maybe even for a 40th. But 35th? Really?

Totally agree. The "Northeastern" is way to small, and the font is blah or yes - meh. Once Nike or Under Armor gets hold of your uniforms it only leads to bad things.

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Hockey East Writers and Broadcasters Association polls came out.

Northeastern slotted 4th, behind Providence, BC, and BU. Similar to other polls and rankings posted, there are three tiers this year; those three at the top, a tier of four with NU, UMaine, UML, and UMass, then the bottom four. In this poll, NU was put at the top of their tier, and even garnered a first place vote from someone.

In their All Hockey East Preseason Team, Davies and Primeau are both named to the team.

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

it will be awesome finishing in the top 4.. (though i am not that optimistic just yet).. a much improved Maine & Massachusetts squad might have something to say about that.

Anyway, can't wait for the home opener v. Union 10/19. Go Huskies! :)

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Nothing about Maine is much imporoved, its the same team as last year minus Vesey plus a couple of undrafted skaters. It will depend on NU's scoring vs. UMass' progression.
