North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

If I ever return to REA I will be EXTREMELY disappointed if sioux fans are escorted out for cheering against the gophers. I'll be angry if they weren't allowed to be hostile to gopher fans.

I hate these bull**** code of conduct things. As was mentioned above, it's the corporate, "No cheering", no fun league types of rules that have killed Magness and Mariucci.

I realize that some jack***es decided to punch another fan but I fail to see how that's UND's responsibility.

The Cheer for your team and not against the opposition team is incoherent and makes no sense at all. When we go to a sporting event aren't we cheering against the other team?

Pretty much. If the NCAA and most school administrators had their way, every game would be a tie.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

If you think not being able to cheer against your opponent is bad, just wait until the usher comes over to tell you you can't cheer for your own own team because someone sitting near you thought you were too loud for them and they were 'uncomfortable'....It happened to me in 2005, and it could happen to you someday....

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

The only thing that this will result in is students no longer being allowed to say "F the Gophers" and all the belligerent drunks being tossed out of the game. Nothing else.

I can't remember how many times I have gotten yelled at for standing on 3rd and long at a footballame or standing up when the gophers are on power play or anything. It's brutal. The u of m has some of the worst fans like that. I'm sure DU has some pretty craptacular fans as well if the usher came down...

Well we can all tell by the way you carry yourself on this site that you are a out of control maniac, so it is understandable how the usher treated you. (Sounds like overt PC.)

Seriously though, there are two issues here; the code of conduct, and how it is enforced. The language needs to be written down somewhere that allows officials to deal with obnoxious fans who are ruining it for the surrounding fans.

And I have no problem with encouraging fans to cheer primarily for their team. With the exception of the occasional sieve/funnel... cheer when I was a "NE" section fan (or a few other of the cheers that were more creative than vicious) I can't say I can recall jeering at another team's player or fan (maybe a few outbursts in retaliation to a particularly cheap play in the past). These are still amateur (kids) athletes, after all. I was taught early on by my Father and older Brother's to respect the other team. I went to a high school that is not well liked by most, and the school also enforced this behavior. I also abstain from swearing (maybe a few slips on this one) if there is a kid in sight (with religious parents who don't swear, you learn to turn it on and off like a light switch). I watch the game for the game, and have no problem enjoying it without verbally attacking the other team or fans. I want to be able to bring my young kids to the game and learn to treat people the same way.

As for the enforcement of the rules, if cheering loud for your team is a problem, than I've been guilty on many occasions. And that absolutely should not be a problem at any arena.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

But I'll be dammed if I am not allowed to taunt the other team and their fans in a creative way.

You hit the nail on the head when you said creative. Unfortunately the creative cheers that used to happen at UND games have been replaced with nothing but swearing at the other team.

This is a complete load. The students did a "Same as last year" cheer against the Gophers on Friday night.

Swami, you need to remember that the PC police invaded DU a long time ago - when did Boone go away? It's hard for me to imagine someone telling a North Dakota fan that they are yelling too loud, as long as they keep it clean.

The only thing that this will result in is students no longer being allowed to say "F the Gophers" and all the belligerent drunks being tossed out of the game. Nothing else.

If it only results in cleaning up the language and getting rid of the belligerent drunks then it will have worked well enough.

I completely agree. Sure, there were at least three rousing renditions  of **** the Gophers but there were a few really quality cheers as well when I was up there.

There's a debate about this on GPL as well and as it turns out everyone seems to be universally impressed with Duke basketball's student section. Very creative, rarely vulgar.

Agreed.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

Hey, pay attention to your school every now and then. He moved to never-never land.;)

Oh, Vegas! I get it. Why didn't you just say he'd moved in with Omaha? :D

Have a great weekend. Gray skies and 40s here for the next few days. Maybe a rain/snow mix. The mountains are supposed to get a nice storm this evening.

Re: North Dakota's New Code of Fan Conduct

Can we toss lawn mowers?

Only if you're outside the arena.
And in approved lawn mower tossing areas...we can't have them interrupting the bar commutes...

As long as the drunks like me and the people I used to go to games with get to stay in the arena I agree...:D

Well, there are a few things some people I know and I personally have used that were creative, sometimes offensive, but didn't have a single cuss word.......that's the stuff I'm realllllly talking about. ;)
