North Dakota 2013-14 season

Re: North Dakota 2013-14 season

No rust. In fact, that 3rd period was one of their best periods of the year IMO. First home loss for UW since 1/27/2013 as well as first time giving up more than two goals in a game since 1/27/2013. Big win for UND's NCAA picture and hopefully a big confidence booster for the team. Didn't see 4 goals coming, hopefully we will have some left for tomorrow. It was nice to see other players step up as they certainly will be needed for the series against Minny in GF and for any other games the Olympians will miss.

Can UND repeat it's 2nd half success like last season (besides 1-2? upcoming Ls to UM..), and create an awkward situation for the NCAA and UND's tourney seeding and hosting possibilities?

First things first though, a rare sweep in Madison.

Is it known whether UND will have its Olympians for the UM series at the end of the month? That is a week before the start of the games, but sometimes teams want to centralize for a few days prior to the start of competition.

It's not decided or official, but the common belief is that they will not be there for those games.

Re: North Dakota 2013-14 season

New updates since last weekend.
- Fallman doesn't make the Swedish Olympic Team, kind of a joke IMO, but what's done is done.
- UND splits with #2 Wisconsin. Great first game, and then another good first period in the second game, but things seemed to fall apart after that. Not going to go into the "WCHA-Whistle goal", again, what's done is done.

The team is finally back at home! The last non-exhibition games the team had in the Ralph were on Nov. 22-23 against Wisconsin. Should be a nice two weekends against St. Cloud State and Bemidji State before hosting the Gophs. Hopefully, they draw a good crowd on Friday night with the men out of town.

Re: North Dakota 2013-14 season

First shutout for Shaw tonight. Not a whole lot of action, but it sounded St. Cloud had a few good scoring chances late. Also good to see Layla get another goal. Going to be important to get scoring from other players with the Olympians missing later. Let's finish off the weekend with a sweep tomorrow!

EDIT: here are the highlights from tonight's game. http://www.undsports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=13500&id=3165160
Dalen's toe-drag to score the shorty was a beaut of a goal.

UND moves up to third in the USCHO poll, but still at 6 pairwise. I actually think this team is better than last year. If they send us to Minny, I'm done

Not a good start to the no-Olympians period. Bemidji always plays UND, and many other teams, tough but UND still should have swept. Looks more and more like UND @ UM in the ncaa's unless some things happen in the conference tournaments. I'm actually not complaining about the often first round matchup of late. To win it all and be the best, you should be able to beat everyone. I still believe this year's team can.

I was able to make both games this weekend and while they definitely had problems with BSU at times, it looked like Bemidji was playing like it's old frustrating self. Idalski even commented on it in the game story. "“We’ll take the win and run, but that was a classic, old-school, UND-Bemidji State game; who can dump the puck more and chase it” (source)

I'm not too worried about the loss of the Olympians. Jakobsen looked amazing, like she always has all season. She just stuck out more without having Karvinen, Tapani and Dufault around her. I also thought Menke looked really good too, that's a promising freshman forward. It was also good to see production from the Marvins.

So with the combination of the loss of the Olympians, not having a full lineup (Dufault and Jensen out), and BSU playing better defensively, we are far from jumping ship. It would just be nice to get some upward movement in the Pairwise, or if the committee would just use the KRACH :D

And now the team must win the wcha tourney in bemidji or see its season come to an end unless something incredible happens out east
