North Dakota 2013-14 season

Re: Phantom Midyear Bracketology

Re: Phantom Midyear Bracketology

Following up your NCAA bracket prognostications, if the season ended this weekend, what a dogfight of an argument we would be having!

Agree that #3 through #6 seeds would appear all-important, because of (1) avoiding a death march to #1 Minny or #2 Wisco and (2) avoiding a 1,000 mile march to a remote campus.

And the Evil Committee would be sorely tempted to seed #3 through #6 solely on the basis of flights/costs by saying "merit? None of that ****ed nonsense about merit! BC and Cornell just split; Clarkson and UND just split; Harvard just tied Cornell and BC; it's a dead heat! Not a dime's worth of difference among 'em! Let's simply count pennies!"

*I've intentionally based the foregoing post solely on poll rankings....knowing that Pairwise currently paints a very different picture that the Committee would in reality take into consideration....because the most recent H2H results cited above depict hopeless parity at #3 through #6 based on the poll rankings, not the Pairwise rankings

Agreed that the PWR is a totally different situation than the hypothetical one we discussed previously. It looks to be trending toward Minnesota at #1, Harvard/Cornell at 2/3 in some order, and Wisconsin at #4, although there is still time for that to fluctuate wildly and wind up with one of those WCHA teams on the road or out entirely and someone like BU or BC getting hot and becoming a third home-ice team from the East. If UND gets in at around #7 or #8, then I agree with Eeyore that NoDak will automatically go to UM if the Gophers are still at #1-3. And no, I don't think the committee is evil for following the mandate that they have been given; from our perspective, it just makes the national tournament seem a little less national. I'm sure UND fans would appreciate an NCAA quarterfinal with a non-WCHA team just for being something new and fresh, rather than a replay of the conference tournament every year.

I'd like to see UND host :D

I know, but you've got to quit dropping one of your non-conference games every year as a first step in that direction. The other alternative is to finish at the top of the league, but it is tough if you are third, have an out-of-league loss, and your only other such series is Lindenwood. That just puts you on that same old bubble heading into the Final Face-Off.

This probably isn't the right thread for it, but it looks like BU and BC's only non-HE opponent in 2014 is Harvard in the Beanpot (and that only for whichever one of them reaches the final). And the HE field is pretty weak. So am I right in thinking that BC and BU can't get home ice even if they get hot -- they need someone else to mess up too?

R U suggesting Harvard has guaranteed entry into the Final ?. :D

Re: North Dakota 2013-14 season

Well with the weekend split in the past, all North Dakota can do know is worry about what's in front of them, and that starts with playing well at Mankato. Need two wins this weekend to end the first half of the season on a good note. (not considering the exhibition with the Manitoba Maple Leafs on December 21 to be of much meaning).

Definitely not the right thread for it! So I shall reserve comment, though this year's NU have not played like they'll trouble this year's Harvard.

Great understatement. Thanks for mentioning it. Going to be at the game the night before...other than getting a first hand look at the newly minted Fighting Sioux ie: sans Lam-Twins...and possibly seeing a good player or two on the Leafs...maybe I'll hang around for this one for some laughs. The Manitoba Maple Leafs are the best kept secret in (this) town.

Only said it that way when looking at it for implications in the Pairwise, since it won't affect it at all. Should still be a good game and it will be right after the U.S. vs Canada game at the Ralph the day before too! Be nice if some people attending that will stick around for the exhibition. Over two days and two games, people will have the chance to see a ton of Olympians, U.S., Canadian, Swede, Finn, and German!

I have it on good authority that one should not be surprised if this game does not happen. I guess we'll see.

Hmmm... " A free video webcast will also be provided through MSUMavericks.com for a fee".

Escher would be proud.
That's likely a "cut and paste" problem. The Mavericks webcast is always free.

Re: North Dakota 2013-14 season

Good road sweep for UND. Looked like Butters really carried Mankato in the second game. All in all, a good way to end the first half of the season, best half-season record in program history! Excited to see what this team does on the back end of the season

Re: North Dakota 2013-14 season

Also, good to see that Karvinen and Tapani are doing well with Team Finland! They just won the Meco Cup in Germany this past week. Good article about Team Finland here

It will be great to see all the UND players in Sochi come February. Here's a list of who to look out for in the Olympics that are from UND!

UND Olympians in Sochi:
USA - Monique Lamoureux
USA - Jocelyne Lamoureux
FIN - Michelle Karvinen
FIN - Susanna Tapani
GER - Tanja Eisenschmid

Still possible selections for Olympics
GER - Susanne Fellner
SWE - Johanna Fallman
