NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

Come down to the Bowling Green area if NMU plays there this season. Nice town - good bar/restaurants, and Toledo isn't far away if you're looking for something to do during the day.

My wife and I went down to see the Lakers play BG. It was a great weekend of entertainment with the games and area.

The double was likely caused by having to compact the schedule due to the playoff change.

I believe there will be one more NMU v Wisconsin next year at Green Bay. The contract was accelerated as both teams had the open weekend in November.

To be clear, the 2018 Green Bay series has been moved to 2017? Is this confirmed? Just curious.

I'm guessing they are doing it to avoid competing with the Lions/ Bears game. Probably a smart move.
I remember playing Laurentian in 2013-14 at the same time as Lions-Packers. I know exhibitions don't fill up anyway but that one was quite the sea of green seats. I wonder if it's at all possible for them to move it to Saturday night after the football game that day? That seemed to work okay with the exhibition game last season.

It's very likely that Victoria has another opponent scheduled for Saturday.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU coach Walt Kyle said he was going to sign (2) more recruits and add them to the (4) players that he already brought in with the 2016-17 recruiting class.... Has anyone heard who these (2) players mite be???? College Hockey News lists Forward Brett Heikkila (NAHL), Defenseman Luke Jaycox (USHL) & Forward Keegan Ward (USHL) as 2016-17 NMU recruits but NMU hasn't announced their signings yet.... Does anybody know when the NMU Hockey "Summer Skate" begins at The Berry and how many NMU players are around this Summer to participate in it????

NMU Hockey Recruiting News

NMU recruit Defenseman Luke Jaycox (6'2" 200lbs - Warroad, MN) has played the past two seasons (2014-15 & 2015-16) with the Lincoln Stars in the USHL....

(BCHL) Coquitlam Express goalie Tyger Howat will join the NMU Wildcat family this fall.

Tyger Howat, who just completed his second season in the BCHL, will join the Northern Michigan Wildcats of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA,) for 2016-17.

The 20-year-old out of Newport, R.I. posted a 9-12-1 record with a .909 save percentage. He also played the 2013-14 season with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Howat is one of four BCHLers joining the Wildcats next season, along with Chilliwack Chiefs forward Darien Craighead, and Penticton Vees forwards Luke Voltin and Demico Hannoun.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound goalie joins a Wildcats squad that featured seven BCHL alums this past season: Zach Urban (Langley Rivermen,) John Siemer (Penticton Vees,) defenceman Brock Maschmeyer (Nanaimo Clippers,) Darren Nowick (Vernon Vipers,) Cohen Adair (Powell River Kings,) Zach Diamantoni (Chilliwack Chiefs,) and Derek Dun (Nanaimo Clippers.)

NMU Recruits Two Forwards From (BCHL) Penticton Vees

The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce forwards Demico Hannoun (6'0" 195lbs - Delta, BC) and Luke Voltin (6'0" 195lbs - Blaine, MN) have committed to Northern Michigan University (NMU) for the 2016-17 season.

Hannoun, who’s in his fourth season in the BCHL, had 11 goals and 22 points in 29 games this season despite the fact he missed 13 games due to injury. The North Delta, BC, product has had a decorated junior hockey career, winning two BCHL Fred Page Cup championships, two Western Canada Cup championships and has played in three RBC Cup national championships. The veteran forward has amassed 75 goals and 166 points in 219 career games with the Vees, Surrey Eagles and Vernon Vipers. He’s also played in 66 Fred Page Cup playoff games, racking up another 17 goals and 49 points.

Hannoun says it has been a long process but a rewarding one.

“First, I want to thank our coaches for the guidance and help I got during this process; it meant a lot. When I was talking to Coach Kyle at Northern Michigan, I realized it was the right fit for me; I liked everything the school has to offer. I’m excited to get down there next year.”

Voltin came to the Vees via an early season trade with Langley and has five goals and 21 points in 43 games; 19 points in 36 games with the Vees. Voltin, who hails from Blaine, Minn., is in his second season in the BCHL and in 87 career games has accumulated 15 goals and 47 points; in nine career playoff games he has seven points. Voltin was a graduate of the US National Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and spent parts of three seasons in the USHL before landing in the BCHL.
