NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

While the news of players choosing the CHL over NCAA is sad for college hockey as a whole, here's a good article detailing just where NMU needs to step up it's promotion of the sport. NMU may not be a "premiere" school, but we certainly are good at developing players with a track record for the NHL:

More than a college education needs to be touted. Development needs to be touted. Success stories from college need to be touted.

And here's where NMU needs to get on Twitter, Facebook, it's own website and toot its own horn.
Alumni under Walt Kyle seeing NHL ice time last season: Mike Santorelli (FLA), Nathan Oystrick (StL), Mark Olver (DEN), Erik Gustafsson (PHI).
Alumni under Walt Kyle who saw AHL level ice time: Ray Kaunisto, Brian Stewart, Dusty Collins, Dave Bonk, Geoff Waugh, along with Oystrick, Olver, and Gustafsson.
Dozens more alumni playing professional hockey with a shot a climbing up the ladder to the AHL and NHL.

We're not a premiere school, but we're going to develop you into one hell of a professional player.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Is there still an exhibition game during the weekend of Oct. 1-2, I noticed it was taking of the schedule and a game on Dec. 30 vs Russian Red-Stars was added. I can't imagine not playing an exhibition for the first game.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Well, I know it's early, but I was wondering if anyone was planning on making the trip down to Madison in October.... As of now, myself and some friends will be making the trip... Just thought I would throw it out there so maybe we can get a group together and outcheer the Kohl Center :D :p ;)

I will be there, as I am living in Milwaukee working at MU, as well as at least four or five friends that have already committed to road trip down.

I am already super pumped for this.

I'll be making the trip over from Minneapolis for sure. When NMU played at Minnesota's holiday tournament a couple of years ago there were about 15 NMU fans that we pulled together from walking around Mariucci and we out-cheered them here, we can certainly do that in Madison.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Glad to see that we'll have a strong contingent in Madison... Really looking forward to that weekend

As far as Captains go, I would have to think that Justin Florek has to be at the top of the list for the C... The Bruins seem to like his commitment on the ice and feel that he could be a leader as he grows as a player... Justin has grown up with this team and that has to put a chip on his shoulder so to speak... I'd really like to see him step up and take charge...

I agree with Florek. Possible alternates could be Cherniwchan and Follmer.

Can't wait til October!

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

My guess would be Florek with the "C." Cherniwchan and Follmer with "A's," and the other "A" going to either MacAulay or Ludwig.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Where in the heck is the team roster for 2011-2012? Specifically, the freshman! All the other schools have their rosters posted online. Is something brewing? A kid didn't show, or what? School starts on Monday.

The roster isn't official until players report to school.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Before I say this I do NOT no if this official or not! But I've heard Gerard Hanson (brother of Greger Hanson) might be going to cedar rapids in the USHL.

No Hanson listed on the roster, which has been added to the school's page. However, there are only 19 names on the roster. I somehow feel there is more than that.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

Thanks. Too bad about Hansen. I wonder who else left the team over the summer....I guess we'll see in a few weeks or so!

The roster on the website does not list any of the freshmen.

Re: NMU Wildcat 2011 Offseason

OK, thanks NMU fan. I still find it very strange why every other school has their roster posted online, and not NMU. Perhaps just some paranoia setting in or dementia in my mind.
