NMU vs. Miami

Re: NMU vs. Miami

So you demand wins against the #1 team in the country because you feel that games against unranked Ohio State aren't winnable?

I expect NMU to win every game. This year's team has high potential. Every single game on the schedule is and should be winnable this year. All I was pointing out is that a road trip to Columbus and another to South Bend isn't exactly a cake walk. You need to take care of business at home (even against top teams) if you want to live up to the expectations for NMU this season

Re: NMU vs. Miami

1-3-2 with a shootout LOSS. LOSS LOSS LOSS LOSS LOSS! I am sick of the losing. NMU needs to WIN a game this weekend. Do you honestly believe that NMU can get swept or come away with only one point and still be ok? Do you honestly believe that with the next 4 games on the schedule?

Calm Down, Have some Dip.   :p

Re: NMU vs. Miami

I'm just happy to get feed back about the games and the score room, since I can't view, listen, or watch over here in the sandbox.

Sounds like the flu bug hit the team. It will affect the team in some aspect, hopefully pull this team together. Friday, night could have been the night the Cats pulled the W against BSU, but we got caught off guard with the extra attacker and the lead turning into a tie. I can't explain Saturdays Meltdown.

New week, new focus, hopefully healthier team.

LETS GO CATS!!!!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Not to be too critical but it seems that the 'Cats have some of the most fair weather fans in the CCHA....Having high expectations for your team is understandable but some of you are so quick to throw your team under the bus it is unbelieveable. Naturally i cheer for the Lakers all the way when we play you guys but I also like to see the U.P. schools do good against the other teams.
Northern has started out crappy in the past but always pick it up for the second half of the season...This year in particular ,with a tough early schedule (home games or not) as long as you are competing with top tier teams i don't see why many of your fans are so up in arms....The experience your team gains now will bode well later in the season....and after all it's better to be playing your best hockey in February and March than in October and November isn't it?
Calm down, you have a deep roster with some pretty good talent, and an excellent goalie..the cream will rise to the top in the end; always does. You can judge what this team is made of in February and March, not pre-Halloween. Best of luck this weekend.

With all the petty bickering going on about the Cats, let's put this in perspective. What Kujo and many others are doing for our country is so much more important for all of us. What they have to deal with makes NMU's rough start against a tough schedule mighty trivial.

The multiple exclamation points ending sentences and various coach bashing gives the NMU fan base as a whole a black eye. I'm sure the rest of the college hockey community on this site are amused by it all.

If someone can get so angered and frustrated about college hockey they have to spew "!!!" after every sentence, they might need to step back and take a deep breath. This is coming from a diehard fan (myself) that has watched Cat hockey for over 30 years. This program is the only thing that gets me through the U.P.'s miserable winters. But I've learned to put it all in perspective.

Anyway, go Cats and Godspeed Kujo and everyone else serving our country.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

You know what they say about opinions!!! And posting multiple exclamation points has nothing to do with anger and everything to do with making a point and being a style of writing. I suggest you lighten up a bit as clearly your feelings get hurt being lumped in with the likes of myself and others. Those who supposedly cause so many black eyes around NMU...gimme a freakin break!!!

In fact I suggest you put me on ignore because on this forumn I will continue sharing my opinion whether good or bad. I will also celebrate each victory and share in defeat because I want good things for the program much the same as many others.

I will also end whatever ****ed sentence I want with multiple exclamation points if I so choose!!! :p

Lastly, you do have it right and the perspective placed on Kujo (U.S. Army Captain James Kolky) is rightly placed and deserved. Indeed godspeed to my very good friend!!!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Do you honestly believe that the first 6 games determine the course of the entire season?

1/6 of the season....
Look at this way,
Game 1: Biggest Rival
Game 2: Defending WCHA Champion
Game 3: Defending Frozen 4 Participant
Game 4: Defending Frozen 4 Participant
Game 5: NCAA Runner-up, current #1 team in the country
Game 6: NCAA Runner-up, current #1 team in the country

and you expected NMU to have a great record during the first 6 games...why?

With all due respect to Redeagle's impressive summation of the Miami-NMU interaction, This might be the best post on this board to date.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

I think we have a better chance pulling off a win Friday than Saturday. Its a long trip from Oxford. Maybe we can catch them flat footed and fatigued after a long trip tomorrow! A win is needed to keep hope for this years post seasons aspirations! If we lose the next four, better luck for another year! I hope the upperclassman can show by example instead of making lame excuses were getting accustomed to the last few years! Go Cats, time to play with some heart! Time for the captains to play like champions!!!!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Hey, new to the board. Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I covered the team the second half of the last season for the North Wind. Always lurked around here and read everything, but because of my work-relationship with the team wasn't about to join and post. Just wanted to say Hi and Go Cats!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

I want to see the team that played against Notre Dame last year at the Joe to show up EVERY game!!!!! If we played like that EVERY game we would win 26+ games this year!!! It was awesome watching that game compared to watching the lame Ferris State game in December 2008. That series was disgusting! Go Cats, find that tempo you had in March, let's make something happen this year!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

The team that played Notre Dame at the Joe had Gustafsson and Hanson. NMU got less than 3 minutes of ice time from them last wekend. I wonder if that had any effect on the outcomes.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

We played 4 games so far this year. It's been said over and over that we can't judge the season on four games, and that's true. There are two sides to NMU's personality; the one that comes out and plays their hearts out (like against UMD and Friday against BSU), and then the one where they lack focus, make stupid mistakes, and take loads of penalties (like against MTU and Saturday against BSU). If the Cats can stick to the first personality each and every game, they will go far, but if they continue to flip flop, it will be a so-so year. This has been said in an interview with Walt, I believe in the MJ of all places, and it's very true.

Miami is a tough team, but we've had some success with them the past few years. Keys to success: 1. play physical 2. STAY OUT OF THE ****ING BOX! 3. give Stewie (Ellingson?) plenty of support around the net, and 4. control the puck/game. With a solid defensive game and puck control, goals will come.

Don't lump all NMU fans in with the likes of BWK and BB.

Yes, please do not lump the rest of them in with us. We actually don't settle for mediocrity and "1 point" weekends. We expect more and voice our opinions. It's nice to see Mojo starting to speak up and DEMAND more from this team, instead of accepting it like the rest of you lemmings. I always enjoyed seeing him at games when I was in town. He is probably one of the most famous NMU fans and he certainly knows his hockey.

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Negative posts 24/7 is not the way to voice your opinion. We've all heard your rants and it's getting old. We all want wins, we all crave greatness for NMU, however, I do feel that Walt, Junior, and Robert are right for this job. They've continually recruited top notch talent considering they're competing against a lot of bigger schools for recruitment. This years team can do great things. That said, there are concerns of consistency. They can play with any team in the country if they play their "A" game each and every time they hit the ice. The BSU series is a great example. Friday there was a lot of physical play, getting pucks to the net, and making some great offensive/defensive plays, and we didn't take as many penalties (6 for 23 min compared to 8-24 on Saturday). Saturday, the team looked lost, sluggish, and continually had miscues on defense leaving Stewart high and dry leading them to get down early and play the desperation/frustration game with no success. We had some top players out due to illness this weekend, but that is no excuse for the terrible play on Saturday. Since even the time of Comely (at least when I started at NMU in '01) it seems like they've always had a two-faced team, playing well on friday nights and sucking it up on saturday. The players need to take it upon themselves to stay in top playing condition the WHOLE weekend, and possibly the coaching staff needs to set stricter rules on their off-ice activities. This is all just my opinion. So, can't we all just support the team and just TALK HOCKEY!

Say what you will about the supporters of the coaching staff, it will not sway our support.

We've all heard this before. Every single weekend. And it's getting old. It's time for a change.

YES WE CAN!!!

Re: NMU vs. Miami

Heard it all before. Getting old. Good one. Hello Kettle, this is the Pot...

You're black? ;) :D

I say just stop responding to them and let's get on with our season. They love the attention and that's just what we're giving them.

PS--Welcome (and welcome back in one case ;) ) to the new posters. May you bring balance to the green and gold force on the boards.

How about starting a sentence with multiple exclamation points.

!!!!!!!Keep Safe Kujo!!!!!!!!!!!

Mojo, I'm seeing quite a dichotomy in the behavior of fans up in the great white north. :) "Wild Cats! Wild Cats! Munch Munch Munch!... I don't yet know how to finish this chant, but I'll work on it."

P.S. Will someone please track down the UNO/NMU Spirit Phone. November 20-21 is coming up quickly.
