NMU Offseason 2010

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Its also worth pointing out that playing NC vs. Tech is cheaper due to travel costs and stuff.

Dump the Showcase and put back to back games vs. Tech for the first weekend.

Personally, I believe we should eliminate the Superior Showcase and only schedule two games against each other. It's ridiculous to have four games against an out of conference opponent. It would be interesting to bring two different teams to the U.P. for a weekend and have MTU and NMU play each school once to bring more out of conference opponents into the fray.

I agree with both of these. Tech should be kept just because they are the easiest NC to schedule. Stick the games in the first weekend of October when the Showcase is now (and when travel is still decent). Also, it would be neat to get some new blood in the UP, and a situation like FM just posted could not only work but be awesome.

I am, however, freaking thrilled to see DU on the slate for this year. Going to Denver for New Years just got very tempting, and I hope that the Pios return the trip in the 2011/2012 season.

This is a fantastic idea. It's done out east all the time, and CC, DU and AFA have done it too (not to mention the College Hockey Showcase). I would love to see more co-operation on stuff like this; MTU and NMU, UMinn and SCSU, MSU and UMich, BSU and UND, WMU and FSU - this possibilities are endless with a little creativity...

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Last year 5 of 8 were at home. Two with Bemidji, Tech and UMD in the Superior Showdown and one more with Tech. The 3 road games were 2 at the Minnesota Tourney (Minnesota, Clarkson) and one at Tech.

Actually Dave, the Superior Showdown was at MTU and UMD last year. I unfortunately attended the MTU debacle in October. But I did get to listen to you and Dave call the Sunday night victory at UMD.

Sounds like someone had too much fun post game Houghton and Duluth to remember  Ambo and Grandmas will do that to you

For your sake, I hope they do, just so you get a chance to enjoy some of Gwoz's exquisite wardrobe.

I've seen DU play several times, but usually from the nosebleedingly high upper bowls of the Xcel Center. It would be nice to see the wonder close up.

This is very unprobable, but if a couple defensemen were to suffer unfortunate injuries, Gustaffson could get his name on the cup.

They are getting rid of the showcase after this coming year.

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Just bumping to see if anyone else has any tidbits on the upcoming season.

Seems Ramada/Holiday Inn isn't donating too heavily to the athletic department this year...

Perkins, Hudsons, and Rio Tinto are the only sponsors in the ice (so far).

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

Any Cats going to be drafted this weekend?

Looking at the current rankings, only incoming freshman G Jared Coreau is listed. He's ranked #29 among North American goaltenders after being ranked at #15 at mid-season. It wouldn't surprise me if Florek is drafted either. In fact, I'd be kind of shocked if he isn't.

Re: NMU Offseason 2010

In the way of new recruits they have about 8 USHL and 1 NAHL
They got the top kid from the NAHL (Higby) and Two top guys from USHL (seckel who plays offense and Ludwig who plays D)

captains-Hanson, A-Brown, Florek

Draft-gron? Florek, maybe a few incoming recruits

Don't be surprised if you see Cherniwchan in the mix for a letter on his sweater.
