NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

Don't. all teams play Canadian colleges in EX. Attendance at those games are zilch. Replace those games with rival EX games.

You cannot play exhibition games against other NCAA teams. Why would you play a rival in a rink half the size of your own and have to pay to use and staff the facility? Those preseason exhibitions are very good tools for coaches to evaluate players under game conditions. Hey, since you like the idea, why not call the Green Bay Packers and see if they'll play an exhibition against the Bears at Green Bay East where their old City Stadium sits?

Why is Maine playing New Hampshire in A EX in Manchester and Portland during the season?

There is a difference between exhibition and non conference games. Those games in Manchester count in the NCAA records. No different than their meeting at Fenway Park, or the UNH vs Dartmouth game this year. Those gamed are scheduled over the next two years and will not be league games, but are NCAA games, no different than this year's non league games between Maine and Princeton or St. Lawrence. These games also are moved to larger arenas in areas that reach out to more fans and alumni, not move the games down the street to a practice rink and cut off access to many fans.

Those aren't exhibition games, they're non-conference games. Which means that even though they are conference foes, they will not earn any league points for the games in Portland and Manchester.

NMU, in case you haven't noticed, has no problem scheduling non-conference opponents. Why would NMU throw away games versus Wisconsin, NoDak, or Western Michigan for a game against MTU or LSSU?

The Eastern schools do schedule non-conference games against themselves because they like being tucked in bed before midnight after a road game.

And I prefer Tim Hortons to Starbucks, thankyouverymuch.

Davyd, there you go using facts and logic, not to mention common sense. Also, playing a "rivalry" game at Lakeview would be stupid. You can't even watch the game from the seats in the entire north side of the arena behind the benches there's not a seat within 30 feet of the boards. I watched a high school game there a couple years ago. Maybe the Pink Donkey is not aware they renovated to place oh a decade or more ago and there are now locker rooms instead of seats behind the benches.

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

So you think MTU/NMU/LSSU should schedule NC games at the Joe Lewis Arena to reach out to more fans and alumni. Plus beer sales.

This event could replace the GLI.

I like the idea.
Tech already does. It's the GLI with big draws Michigan and MSU. It would be difficult for NMU or LSSU to draw a crowd for a weekend that would justify Olympia Entertainment or the host school taking the financial risk.

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

Home NC games are and will get rarer over time.

UW and UND will not come to Marquette if you didn't notice.
Really? So NMU won't be able to schedule teams like UMD or Western Michigan or St Cloud for home and home non conference series? I highly doubt you will ever have a season where there are no home non conference games. In some years you may have one home and 3 road series, but there will still be times when you play 2 & 2.

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

Time to bring it back.
Yes, it makes sense to pay to rent the building and play in an arena that is too small for at least two of the exhibition crowds that LSSU has drawn in the years since at their rink. It also makes sense to give up the parking and concession revenue and to pay to bring merchandise over to the Pullar for sale, although you wont sell as much because you won't have the selection available that you do at the Taffy. Fewer fans, less revenue taken in AND having to pay to use the rink. This is one brilliant Pink Donkey.

You act like crowds are flocking to see NMU play LSSU at the BEC and the Taffey Abel.

They are not.

They are still bigger crowds than Pullar or Lakeview can accommodate. And neither NMU or LSSU has to pay to play in their own rinks. And they get the parking and concessions at their own rinks. And by the way, what about your season ticket holders who have center ice seats at the Berry or Taffy that would get moved because of fewer seats at the old rinks? What about those who hold the suites? Do you refund 12% of their payment because now you now have two games where they cannot use their suites and seats? Your idea makes no financial sense at all. It would only cost these programs much needed money. Yeah, let's pixx off our season ticket holders and suite holders, let's pay the city to play when we could play for free and let's give up concession and parking revenue. Let's play in a smaller place where we can't sell as many tickets. Have you been to a game at Lakeview in the last 10 years? Why do you make such asinine suggestions?

Re: NMU 2013 Off-Season Thread

I see the new roster is out. Any surprises?

For those of you with more inside information, how much competition is there going to be between Beutenmiller, Dahlstrom and Doan for the goalie position? Is Doan the most likely starter? Or, will we see two keepers to begin the season?
