Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I don't recall seeing a single SWAT uniform tonight. Only blue and tan unis.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

That was a really weird exchange between the cops and the occupants of the pickup

To be fair the Vice guys said the same and they actually go to warzones. There were (actual) shots fired recently too.

this is absolutely nothing like a war zone. If you'd like to see a real one I know plenty of people who could give you a tour. Until you're willing to take me up on that...stop being an idiot.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

This Tapper guy on CNN is clueless. He's wondering whether the national guard bring called in is a vote of no confidence in "the charming black highway patrolman" (his words, not mine).

I don't think he understands why they were called in and what they were doing. National Guard had had NOTHING to do with the protests. It had everything to do with ensuring security around the command center while the cops and highway patrol does their job.
Jeebus. Even MSNBC hasn't gone down that dopey route.

I honestly think Fox has had the best coverage of this of the 3 major news networks. Not that it's been great, just better than CNN and MSNBC.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Captain Johnson continues to impress. He's been thrust into a very difficult situation and is handling it with grace, dignity and professionalism. It's great to hear the man whom many in the media treated with a reverence bordering on idolatry, label many so-called journalists as prissy children who are contributing to rather than reporting on the events in Ferguson.

The work done by law enforcement frequently looks ugly, even violent. But from where I sit, the cops have generally handled themselves professionally in every sense of the word. There has been no "police riot," and no infringement of the rights of citizens to protest. Just an insistence that criminals be stopped and arrested. We'll never know how many lives have been saved and how much property damage prevented.. But I for one am glad law enforcement has been there, keeping a lid on an explosive situation fraught with potential for enormous violence.

Based on what? What do you know that the rest of us don't?

Cops don't just shoot people in broad daylight when witnesses are present. Not even in Klan country.

Why don't you wait till the investigation is complete before you decide that the cop made a "mistake."

For the same reason you have already "decided" he didnt. And dont pretend you havent...

I didnt realize people arent allowed to have preliminary feelings on a matter.

Look if it is shown Brown was the aggressor one witness described I will change my tune fast, but I believe that account about as much as I believe Brown was as pure as the driven snow and shot cause he was black. Both are way too "perfect" if you catch my drift. (they prove the narrative to well) But I take deadly force pretty seriously and as such the burden of proof on the cop is very high. What we have seen so far doesnt cut the mustard so I call it a mistake. As I said though that can change.

And so Slap Shot gets my point...if mouthing off to a cop is enough to be shot I would have been dead at 8. This isnt about the "running away" aspect it is about being an idiot kid.

I havent watched the protests because stupid violence like that completely kills the point. These people arent outraged the kid was killed they are just using this as a way to get mad and hate rage. This should have ended days ago and they all suck. Throwing stuff at cops is stupid and just enflaming things more...

I think I am just gonna walk away from this thread for a week or so :)

It doesn't matter if a "minority" of the people were throwing **** at cops. There were things thrown at cops. Period.

Yep...the "majority" should be stopping them and turning them in. Since they arent then the minority makes everyone look bad and is asking for serious trouble.

Where's priceless tonight? I miss his highly selective screen caps. Perhaps he took a break from getting skycraned out of his bedroom window and finally got a real job?

Actually I've been going back and forth to the hospital because my mother had open-heart surgery. And I can't work because I am disabled after having a brain tumor partially removed.

But your concern is so touching.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Uhh... actually I haven't. I've said all along that if the cop murdered the kid then the cop should be prosecuted.

What I've also said is that the investigation needs to run its course before we can know whether a prosecution is appropriate or not.

Getting really tired of hearing (from people interviewed in Ferguson) that what the rabble wants is an arrest.

Well... it doesn't work that way. Need to have some evidence of a crime before you can make an arrest and I'm gonna assume at this point that they don't have any (enough?) evidence of a crime.

I've sat around and listened to enough "cop stories" from two friends who are/were cops (and their partners when present) that I'm not willing to take on face value that someone didn't do something that the rest of us would consider crazy that resulted in them getting shot or tased or arrested.

Just coz we think it would be nuts to attack an armed cop doesn't mean it didn't happen.

We'll find out either way in time. Hopefully the good people of Ferguson haven't burned down their city before then.

A live bullet deflected off an object near a group of reporters and the SWAT told them to evacuate. Glad you "know people" who have been in a war, but haven't actually been in one yourself and are acting like some type of elitist over what constitutes "like reporting from a warzone".

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Might be a good idea.

This thread is really going to turn into a **** storm if it turns out that a ballistics analysis reveals that Brown was shot from anywhere but close range.

Why would it turn into a **** storm?

If it turns out that the cop executed the kid, then he'll deserve to be prosecuted. Can't see anyone arguing the other side of that. Not even dO.P.ey.

A live bullet does not constitute a "war zone."

People don't gather in groups in the street in a "war zone."

Calling it a "war zone" is simply more hysterics aimed at keeping viewers' attention.

Don't argue with trix, he has enough voices in his head already to argue with.

I feel like stopping them would be next to impossible. If someone is crazy enough to throw an object at the cops then they're probably not the type you want to get in the way of. Same goes with turning them in, not sure how realistic that is given the environment.

Not saying I disagree either, I think most of them are trying to keep it peaceful and are tired of the idiots who cause violence and loot (hence the protestors who were guarding stores the one day).

Obviously not but when a few bullets fly past your head you might say "warzone" or whatever comes to mind if you're not exactly experienced with that sort of thing.

I won't bother calling out names. But you KNOW that it won't be that cut and dried in this forum. It never is.
