Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

For the record, in college I had three channels: ESPN, History, and Discovery. All three haves turned into almost unwatchable modern day Fox from the mid-90s.

Now I have HBO, the food network (none of the reality show BS), and FX. I'm getting old.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

H2 and the Science Channel are good.

I don't mind the History Channel, at least SOME stuff is educational, even Pawn Stars. TLC is trashier than the Lifetime network. At least Lifetime doesn't pretend to be a "real" channel.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

H2 has gone downhill fast. When it was history international it was great. Now I see more ancient aliens and **** like that than modern marvels.

Well, that sucks. Obviously haven't seen that channel in a couple months, so I guess I'm not missing much. That's a shame.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Next few hours:
viaje a las estrellas: secretos del universio
How the earth was made
America's secret slang
America's secret slang
United stuff of America
United stuff of America
America's secret slang

Actually the next few days, beyond the above, isn't terrible.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

While I haven't seen it, America's Secret Slang intrigues me, assuming it's about differences linguistically, compared to other countries (or even within the different regions of the US).

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

United Stuff was pretty interesting. And what's wrong with How The Earth...? I haven't watched that one yet.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

AMC, Netflix, and DVDs now constitute most of my television. History Channel has become mindless garbage, to the point that I actually miss the days when they rolled stock footage of Hitler 24/7. Even Food Network has gone downhill with the cancellation of "Good Eats" (though I admit that after almost 15 years, Alton had exhausted his run). It's all "Cupcake Wars", NFNS, and that kind of reality/competition bullshiat now, though I will admit that I can sit through the occasional episode of "Chopped" or "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives".

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I like DDD, but hate Guy (obviously; I mean, who doesn't?). Thankfully, I found the DDD lists on the interwebs, so the show is now optional.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

The only must-see TV for me now is Deadliest Catch.
Its not as good as it used to be. Its just about played out but I still watch but never live. I watch most of the reality crap on History or Discovery. Its mindless entertainment but none of it is most see. Downeast Dickering on History, anyone watch outside of Maine?

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

No, it's certainly past its prime, but it's still not bad.

Outside of that and sports, I'm not watching a whole lot else.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Where did I put my old website about channels getting away from their original core message?

I loved watching the old versions of History, Weather and Discovery channels. Now, they've become shells of themselves. The Weather Channel is playing movies for crying out loud. I think a lot of competition could be had if some startups with capital did what the old stations used to do. I mean shouldn't we have a channel that plays music videos? That would be a novel idea.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

In the digital era, the traditional music video - a form of entertainment & means of promoting singles - is pretty dated. Youtube is now the preferred medium for putting one out.

Same reason the Weather Channel got away from forecasting and into docu-dramas. Anyone can just go online and find forecasts.

DirecTV dumped TWC until they agreed to put more actual weather programming on. Honestly.

The channels that I find myself watching more, that actually are ON TOPIC, are HGTV and DIY Networks. I find them very interesting, most of the time, to get ideas for projects for the house and the lawn. And from what I can tell, all of the shows on those channels are still about homes/renovations/etc. so they're still on topic.

Yep.
