Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

According to Eye Witness reports he was surrendering and had already been shot once when the fatal shots were fired. But, whatever. I learned a long time ago not to **** with authority just like I learned a long time ago not to get out of a car on a racetrack to try to run someone down in a moving vehicle.

I'm thankful eye witness reports are never wrong.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

But the only part that really matters is the part where deadly force was used and whether it was justified. And if the autopsy shows that with the first shot, he was shot in the back while running away, how complicated is it really?

Perfect... so we can stop talking about this until the results come out because none of this other stuff really matters.

What did Brown do after he was shot in the back? Did he simply put his hands up and surrender? How quickly did he turn around? How were his hands up? High? Slight bend at the elbow which concealed his hands to the officer? Did he stand in one place or start walking towards the officer to try and intimidate him? Did the shot hit him? Graze him? Miss him?

The devil is in the details. While I'm not ready to absolve him, I'm not ready to convict him yet, either.

So you're saying it is indeed a black and white issue? ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

Wilson had watched Die Hard the night before and thought Brown might have a gun taped to his back like John McClane.

Right but if the first shot wasn't justified, does any of the stuff that happened after that justify pumping him with lead? I honestly have no idea how I would react if I got shot, I'm sure it'd be rather shocking to say the least and you can't reasonably expect someone to perfectly follow orders in that instance, much less even think coherently.

So you're saying it is indeed a black and white issue? ;)

I see what you did there :D

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

Did they find a bullet in the cop car?, thought that's what they said on radio?

That is the part of the story where I really am completely baffled. If that happened...evidence? Forensics? Where is that stuff. A BULLET IN A CAR. Should be easy to prove or disprove.

That would depend upon who shot him, wouldn't it?

In a made-for-TV movie, it would turn out in a surprise plot twist that no one expected, that his buddy tried to shoot the cop and missed, hitting him instead, and hearing the gunshot, that's why the cop started shooting.

It was Obama trying to distract from Bengazi

It still leads back to the investigation not being complete, IMO. I would rather see them take their time and get it right.

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

In my opinion it goes to what kind of person Michael Brown was. And what kind of attitude he has, which will help investigators figure out what happened that night.
Well, anything short of "Michael Brown was physically resisting arrest" and it doesn't really matter what his attitude was when it comes to the officer's use of force. Anything short of "Michael Brown was belligerent to the point where the officer legitimately (as in, not just because he's afraid of a big black guy for [insert reason here]) feared for his safety" and it doesn't really matter what his attitude was when it comes to the officer's repeated, and quite frankly superfluous, use of deadly force.

A man who had recently robbed a store may be on edge when a police officer pulls up to him.
See above.

Shooting him repeatedly may support that.

I'm afraid of you and fear for my safety. That completely justifies my actions when I shoot you 10 times (if we ever meet)

Re: Nice Plant #7: Get me off of this planet

I have no doubt the kid did nothing to help himself in this situation. The question is did he need to die and I can't fathom how an unarmed kid deserves to be gunned down. Maybe I'm completely stupid in that regard, I don't know.

Not necessarily. Media reports indicate Ferguson police cars aren't equipped with cameras, which is kinda surprising in this day and age. I wonder if their officers are equipped with tasers, which would give them an option short of lethal force. Cops are trained to shoot until the threat disappears. We learned this during the Amadou Diallo shooting in NY a few years ago where much was made about the fact that the cops shot him multiple times. If they are justified in shooting, they are justified in shooting 'till there is no more threat. This isn't a 50's TV western where the good guy shoots the bad guy in the hand.

One assumes there had been a broadcast about a suspect in the strong arm robbery of that convenience story. How many 6'4", 300 pound black young men are there in that neighborhood at any given moment? Pulling up to someone who fits the description of the doer (assuming there was one) is just a cop doing his job.

Ask yourself which scenario is more likely: the one offered by Brown's buddy that the cop, for some reason, tried to drag this big lug into the cruiser. Or that Brown offered some resistance, a struggle ensued, during which the cop was struck and his gun discharged. I say again: the idea of the cop attempting to pull this huge kid into the car with him simply isn't credible in any detail. Cops want people they're dealing with to keep their distance.

The kid didn't have a gun so it has to be a bullet from the cops gun, doesn't it? How does that get in the car?
