After 27 years of being buried in a grave without a coffin, the only thing remaining would be bones. Upon what information could anyone conclusively state that this is Jacob's remains? DNA takes weeks to test. Until those test results are back, we don't know if it's him or one of thirty kids that monster could have abducted. He's old and facing a long, long prison sentence for abducting another child and child porn charges, so he could have decided to out himself on other cases just to mess with the Wetterlings.

There is obviously something that confirms it or Patty would not be going public. I am guessing the killer has a keep sake and something buried with the bones belonged to Jacob. Add in the fact that the killer cooperated and told him where the body was buried and that is enough to call it.

This. It was a very specific case, and those other charges (IMO), no matter if true or not, were an excuse to keep the guy on watch/in custody/whatever in relation to the Jacob case. This is a done deal.

Stearns County investigators have confirmed that Jacob Wetterling's remains have been located.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner and a forensic odontologist identified the remains as Wetterling's Saturday.

Why be snarky about it? He wasnt accusing people of lying he was stating a fact about how long it usually takes DNA to be confirmed.

Yes, I was.

If the Stearns County investigators and forensic teams are satisfied with the remains found, that they can identify him through dental/orthodontic records, that's fine. I do find it odd that this was added to the article you linked:
DNA tests are currently being conducted to confirm the remains are in fact Jacob's.

Well seeing as it is a high profile case they will probably try and confirm as many ways as possible.

I think the kid is scum, and what he did was reprehensible but if anyone takes a shot at him they should go away for a long *** time. This isnt a comic book vigilante justice is wrong.

What they CAN (and almost definitely will) do is watch him like a hawk for him to violate his probation. If the guy so much as steps out on his patio with a beer, a neighbor dutifully whips out his cell phone camera, texts it to the local police, and sends him back to prison.

This little f-ck will be back in the DOC system soon enough. If not for another rape, then for some white color crime down the road.

If the kid was smart he mea culpas and spends the next 15 years fighting for tougher penalties and women's rights/protections. He should be like the neo-nazis that go to prison then lecture on how evil racism is and how their actions were criminal and disgusting.
