Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

Hate Crime legislation is dumb. Murder is murder. Assault is assault. What someone is thinking while doing it is irrelevant.

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

Let's make this simple. Does anybody not agree with this?

The troll in me wants to not just for the lulz. :p However, "hate crime" has predictably degraded to the point where if the victim is one category and the assailant is another, it's automatically a hate crime.

If that's what the kid does with "20 minutes of action", the father did a **** job raising him. It would only take me 20 seconds to stab the dad in the eye, but somehow I think he would be OK with me getting jail time for that.

Twenty seconds - that's more of a torturous poke than a stab.

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

All crime is "hate" crime. I say that because if you loved your neighbor, or were at worst indifferent, you wouldn't commit crimes against them.

Wrong. If you pocket the $50 they've got sitting out on their kitchen counter, it doesn't mean you hate them.

When Goldman Sachs bilks senior citizens out of their retirement money, they aren't doing it cause they hate old people.

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

After reading that, I caught myself fantasizing a little too hard that we still had the Code of Hammurabi. I was thinking we could start off by castrating the father and son. Just take both of these worthless sh*tstains out of the gene pool for good.

Brian Banks, a linebacker with the Falcons, is pretty upset by the Stanford swimmer's sentencing too. It's too light. Banks spent 5 years in prison and 5 years on probation for rape. The difference being Banks was wrongfully convicted and had his conviction overturned when he obtained an audio recording of his accuser admitting that she made a false accusation.

As long as it stays just that: a fantasy.

Vengeance is not justice. Aeschylus was writing about this 2500 years ago. It's one of the marks of civilization.

We all enjoy seeing the bad guy get blown up in action movies, but the effectiveness and satisfaction is just that: it's a movie.
